I had not trouble copying a Cameras.cfg from one of the Asobo aircraft

I don't have any problems copying cameras.cfg although when I do I get a warning that the file is encrypted but can still copy. Do you get that warning? I cannot copy the entire folder for an aircraft though.

Yes I am running MSFS from Windows (click on an icon on the Windows 'workbench'.  What I meant was that to download (re install) I have to do that via the Xbox app which I thought was normal for the store edition?

I have W10 installed on my C drive and MSFS installed on my D drive which is only has MSFS on it.

Maybe the problem I experience has something to do with the fact that the computer store which built and sold the PC to me installed W10 and did not set me up as the user and as such when I open c:/users  I see   folders for   Owner   and Public    no folder with my name.  Could this be a problem?   If so how can I fix it?

well, you are still using AV unless you specifically go in and disable Windows Defender, just FYI

Thanks. Where do I disable Windows Defender?

I am seriously thinking there is a problem with my PC and/or W10 installation as sometimes without warning the 'window' (such as the 'window' where I currently am typing this reply) disappears and as soon as I move the mouse it reappears.

Is there a method to 'rebuild' W10 without uninstalling it and having to reinstall everything else such as MSFS?

Have you tried to clean up the infected file using your A/V already?. You're maybe lucky and the file is able to be Ok again. I would recommend you to change your current A/V and use the default

In Windows search, type 'system information' and open the app. At the top you have the 'OS Name' (operating system version), and about half way down it will have your 'Username'. These will help troubleshoot.

A re-install of Windows 10 will wipe everything.

if you are going to re-install the OS, install Windows 11. Windows 10 is end-of-life next October (2025), so no more security updates. Unlike the horror that was Windows 8.0, Windows 11 is very similar to 10 and you shouldn't have any problems changing over. First check with your builder to see if there would be any issues activating Windows 11.

That username means that you are logged into Windows with a user account called 'Owner'. That corresponds to the 'Owner' user profile folder you found. This is perfectly normal and you don't have to change anything. As this is the only user account, I have no doubt it would have admin privileges.

Did you try my suggestion in a previous comment to disable UAC by moving the slider in control panel and changing the registry key? Without UAC and admin privilege you can copy anything anywhere (unless your AV software is interfering.)

If an AV program takes action against a "virus" it can sometimes cause irreparable damage to an application or operating system. We had a server damaged when the AV decided the backup agent was a virus. We have the same AV & backup agent running on hundreds of servers, but that was the only one affected. We reversed the AV action, but we could not get the backup agent to work on that server again, even with assistance from the vendors of both the AV and backup agents. We ended up restoring the server from a prior backup.

I haven't run AV on my home PC since Windows 11, as the built-in Windows Defender and UAC is good enough for my needs. I recommend to my friends and family that they use a 'Standard' user account on Windows (without admin privileges) for daily use. If they install anything, they just need to enter the credentials for the admin account.

Disabling UAC can help with troubleshooting. Just moving the UAC slider in the control panel to 'Never notify' doesn't disable UAC, you need to change the value of a registry key called 'Enable LUA' from 1 to 0 and reboot. The key is in this location:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

When you change the value, Windows will tell you it needs to reboot. After troubleshooting, remember to re-enable UAC.

Disabling UAC is the very first thing I do when setting up the OS from install. Turn off and leave it off.

I am very reluctant to wipe everything just for an annoyance of not being able to backup some MSFS folders.

In your case, DESKTOP-ACPMPL6 is probably the name of your computer/  Owner is the user name.  Since a PC shop setup your machine, they probably gave you a login of "Owner" and some random password.  My machine has the following "InfoEdTech-1" which is the computer name and "jmdri" is my account on the machine which I assigned when I got the machine from Dell.  You might talk to the shop that built your machine.  Maybe they have some tricks to solve the problem.  Installing Win 11 is a good idea as long as your machine can support it.

BWT, I don't get any notice that any of my files are encrypted when I copy them and I can copy one of the standard Asobo aircraft without problems.  So I think the bottom line is your permissions are lacking some setting that should allow you to take full control.

Check the following:

For Windows 10 & Windows 11:

Open Settings: Click on the Start button > Settings (gear icon).

Navigate to Accounts: Click on "Accounts" > "Family & other users".

Make sure you have admin privileges

Hope this helps,

No I haven't had a chance yet and will try that later if I can work out how to do that.

Yes I have Administrator privileges.

In the meantime I decided to install MSFS on my old standby slow PC. I get the same problem yet it is on a different PC.

When I get home I will look at UAC etc.

Thanks I tried that without success (yes I rebooted after changing).

I then uninstalled AVG and rebooted.  Still no success.

Uninstalled MalWareBytes and reboted. Sill no success.

I have a link to my OneStore folder on my workbench so that I can quickly go to that folder. The icon is displayed with a lock on it. Does that give a clue?  spacer.png

you probably can't disable it fully as it's so integrated into the OS, but I would say the thing to disable is "Real-time scan"

windows security > virus and threat protection > manage settings > real-time protection to off

as a cyber professional, I must add a disclaimer here that you should only do this if you know the consequences of disabling AV scanning and the risks this introduces!!  😁

I should also add that I run Windows Defender and haven't had to disable anything and do not see the same problem you see, so the issue may lie elsewhere

I set Windows Defender off momentarily and tried again. Same problem. I then set it back on.

Searching the internet for the error "Your organisation does not allow you to place this file here" returned a few 'hits' one on the web site which states-

It is a bug that occurs if MSFS isn’t installed on your windows drive. Meaning, that in order to work around the problem, you need to move MSFS to your windows drive.

Refer    https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/organization-doesn-t-let-you-place-files-here/366180

Yet I am sure I have read above that some people, like me, have MSFS installed on a different drive.

AND I get the same error if I copy any select say any aircraft in the One Store folder back to the same (ie OneStore) folder.

Thanks.  I did disable Windows Defender just long enough to try and copy again and still got that message.  I quickly set it back.

I am totally gob smacked. NO one else seems to have the problem yet I do and on two separate PCs.

I have never seen the error before only when attempting to copy stuff installed for MSFS.

I's damned annoying but only affects me wanting to backup my aircraft cockpit camera position settings which I have do do manually copying just the cameras.cfg files into separate folders elsewhere. Not the end of the world I guess but still annoying especially as no one else has the problem.

Please note that this same error I experience when attempting to copy folders in the MSFS installation also happens when I attempt to copy certain folders on my C drive   eg Program Files   and   Program files (x86)     Does anyone else have that problem?

Hi Jarnie,

Here's how I installed MSFS on my second drive:

"Sometime during installation it will ask you where you want to install the 'packages' (=community and official folders). Point it to your D:drive (I parked it in a MSFS folder on my 😧 drive) and all will be well."

I created a folder on my D drive before I started the install.  I've had no problems since the initial install.

I think you may be at a decision point.  It may be time to rebuild one of your computers from scratch.  It's a lot of work but you can control the entire process and usually requires almost a case of beer 🐵,  Since you mentioned that you have two machines, I'd start with the least important one and see what happens.

If any of my files are encrypted, I don't know it because I have complete access to everything so I'm still thinking about your permissions.  Have you talked to the folks that built your machine.  They may have some insight.

In any event, hope you get a handle on your problem.

Jim

Yes that is what I did on both PCs. start the installation and it defaults to install on C:drive and then change it, in my case to my D:drive.  There is nothing on my D:drive except what the MSFS installation wrote on it.

I didn't create an empty folder on D:drive first though but wonder if that would make any difference as I'm sure it is a 'windows thing' as I can't copy my Program Files   or   Program Files (x86)    on my C:drive either without the error.

When I get a chance I will reinstall W10 on my old standby PC and reinstall MSFS and see what happens but I don't expect any improvement.
