July 13, 20241 yr Can anyone explain to me what on Earth is going on in this screenshot? I was conducting a quick circuit of LFRB Brest Bretagne airport in France, and during my initial turn to the south after departing runway 25L, I noticed that a couple of small sections of the terrain had really low resolution textures draped over them. So I restarted the scenario, slewed across to the same area, got the drone out, and took this hideous screenshot This is a small section of the coastline a short distance southwest of the airport. Can anyone confirm if this area looks the same on your PC? https://www.mediafire.com/view/ou3iukky7op3kg6/Screenshot_%28411%29.jpg/file Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
July 13, 20241 yr That's not downloaded fully, so could be any number of issues related to bandwidth, servers, data usage or whatever. Edit: having said that there are places in the world that are deliberately low resolution due to government/military etc locations so could be that. July 13, 20241 yr Ok so looking at Bing Maps online this area and an area to it's East are also blurred, so if not military/government it could simply relate to not having the required license from Bing to have high resolution of the area. So that's why it's blurred in Sim 🙂 Edit: Same in Google Earth but not as blurry, seems to be a Naval Installation. July 13, 20241 yr It is a naval installation, I’ve been to Brest many times for work and my coworker said he was based there when we went to a restaurant nearby.
July 13, 20241 yr Author Wow, that is a bit poor. Blurry textures like that in the simulator are totally unacceptable as far as I am concerned. It is the first time that I have seen anything like that, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Not impressed EDIT: It is interesting to note that the area next to the harbour at the right hand side of my screenshot is also massively blurred in the Bing Maps images online, and yet it is rendered at high resolution in MSFS. Not impressed That I suggest you wrote to the French Navy and ask them politely to allow you to view their Naval Bases in your Flight Simulator, I'm sure they'll quickly respond in kind and allow you access.......</sarcasm off> Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1 Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)
July 13, 20241 yr Author I guess that rules out flying to Brest Bretagne airport again in the simulator. Just like with default scenery in P3D, there is no way that I am flying anywhere near a blurred mess like that. July 14, 20241 yr Author Thankfully, I have not seen anything else like that to date. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous to say that I will not use a nearby airport because of it, but stuff like this makes me feel really uncomfortable. It totally destroys immersion (just like default scenery did in P3D), so I prefer to avoid these blurry texture areas like the plague. In short, blurry low resolution textures of any kind have no place in a next generation flight simulator. While I understand the limitations of Bing maps and security causing this issue, I kind of agree with you. They must know about these areas and they could have filled in with scenery over the top of this. Or maybe MS just took the word Breast literally and censored it! {Schoolboy mode off} Is there nothing on FS.to to fill over the area? EDIT: I just looked myself. Seems there isn't anything to cure it on FS.to. A pity. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). It has the same blurriness because of the large military terrain right next to it. Unfortunately we have to deal with it and above all, respect it.

While I do understand and respect the reasons for the security, MS / Bing could at least manually edit these areas to blend in so they don't look so bad. I have to add that the Dutch airfields are not blurred in Google Maps, of which satellite imagery is used. I myself handcrafted a totally flattened military low fly zone in The Netherlands for instance (original Bing Maps with a little patch of handcrafted landclass):
