Need Some Help

Featured Replies

I am at my wits end! Hope this is visible among the countless MSFS 2024 posts. I cannot fly anything without using autopilot. Every plane will slowly (and sometime more quickly) start a right-hand bank and I have to correct every couple of seconds or be off course.

I have removed/checked key bindings on my Keyboard, Mouse and the game pad I use to fly. Nothing seems to work.
Cutting off/on assist items seem to do nothing.

Unplugged the game pad and used a different port, ect.

I just can't seem to figure out why this is happening. It never used to. I remember having the issue around the time they did an update in 2021-2022 time frame.
I thought it was just the update causing the issue but after watching more videos I've noticed others don't suffer from this.

Below is a video I made of it happening. I used autopilot and switched it off around 10-13 seconds into the video. It takes a few seconds and then it starts, I correct and it happens again.
Used the stock 172 in the video.

  • Tried it and it still happed. Did cut the engine and let it coast, stayed straighter than it has with the engine running.

  • Okay, thanks for watching the video. Good to know its normal. I did zero torque and P-Factor to zero. Still slowly banked right.  I can make it better with trim so it doesn't happen near as fast.

Glad you feeling ok with it now. TO be fair I'd be worried if I took off and the plane flew dead straight! There's always SOME deviation going on to keep you busy. That's also one of the reasons why w

Can you bind the autopilot to a button on the pad and unplug the keyboard and mouse?

Autopilot is bound to the Y button on the gamepad. I am using the PC version of MSFS2020 btw not the xbox version.
Reset all profiles and still no luck. Still that persistent right bank. Even fired up the Beechcraft Bonanza and attempted to use the trim there to see if it would offset the effect. It just caused me to start banking to the left instead.

Still happened unfortunately. Also tried unplugging the gamepad and flying with just the keyboard using the num pad. Still didn't work. Turned off iQUE thinking maybe the program was interfering somehow.

This has to be the most frustrating thing I have ever experienced. Never has happened with any other software I own.

I don't often suggest this as a solution to problems with MSFS2020 (because it seldom works), but in this case it may be worth a try: do a re-install of the sim. Clearly this is not an issue intrinsic to MSFS, so if it persists after a reinstall, the problem has to be with your computer or a peripheral device. Determining if this is the case would at least help to zero in on the cause. Have you tried flying in safe mode (empty community folder)? I doubt this would help, but it may be worth doing before resorting to a reinstall.

@cobalt I just reinstalled it 2 weeks ago. I had thought to uninstall it again and reformat the drive. I will check the community folder, but I do not believe I have anything installed there. I am also going to try my flight stick and see if it still does the same thing.

Edit: The only thing in my community folder is Navigraph and PMDG stuff. The Thrustmaster 16000 didn't help either. Let me move everything from the community folder and see if that changes anything.

Try increasing the dead zone on your aileron axis.

This is seem like your controller. If that was a case be IRL it would suspect rudder trim.

Tried two different controllers (gamepad and joystick) and the same thing happened. Zeroed rudder trim and even tried a plane that had it onboard. still did not fix the issue.

This looks like exactly what was happening to me. The problem was that I had touched the keyboard keys that set aileron trim to the right. It stayed that way through flight after flight with various planes.

I was thinking there was something wrong with my yoke, stick, or pedals. Nope. I just set aileron trim to neutral using the keyboard keys. After that, there was no more problem. Except in the wind. Before: always the same problem. After: never a problem again.

Is this Xbox or PC?

Have you tried loading up the flight, letting it start to bank then unplugging one by one EVERY device from your machine?

including mice/keyboard/everything until you have machine ONLY NO peripherals then see if plane still banks?

There is a command in MSFS options to reset rudder trim to neutral. You just assign that to a key or button. One touch and the rudder trim is centered. There is no such command for to reset aileron trim to neutral (it's my biggest want in MSFS). But you can trim aileron left and right with keys until you find the neutral, but it takes awhile. You can't just tap one button.
