CD Keys is a grey market vendor. Basically they acquire keys in bulk in several ways, some more legitimate than others, but most frowned upon by Steam.

Basically, you should not have issues, but you have no protection. If steam one day decides to crack down on this, you're on your own.

It's not a grey market per se. There are official key vendors like Gamesplanet that offer MSFS at a discount (in case of Gamesplanet it's 15%).

I'm sorry but where did your read that they're official vendors?

Who are we?

Gamesplanet is a games download website based in the UK, France and Germany. We are not new to the field of digital distribution; we have been an official licensed reseller since 2006. Our team consists of real gamers and we hope that you can see that in our offers and friendly support 🙂

Quote

Is this service legal?

Our service is legal - all of our keys come directly from the Publisher. A portion of the money that you pay for the games (not to mention the lion's share) will go to the Publisher. All the games we sell are with their express permission. With us you never have to use proxy servers to activate your game, and will never get presents from Russia or Steam gifts - and therefore you don't need to worry that your key will be blocked.

Quote

What does "authorized Reseller" mean?

Our store has a contract with each of the game's publishers; we sell games on their behalf with their permission. We take a small portion of the sale to pay our hard working staff and to keep Gamesplanet fully operational. We send the lions share to the publisher who in turn pays the Game developers. Because of this, Gamesplanet and you are supporting the gaming industry so that they can continue to develop new and exciting games! That's the reason you will always get your pre order and pre load keys on time directly from the game's publisher.

Whatever gamesplanet is does not in any shape or form change what CDKeys is. And CDKeys is a grey market reseller.

They don't even make the claims you linked about Gamesplanet, so I'm not sure why you'd compare the two. We're talking about CDKeys here, not someone else.

Title is a bit misleading.  The "opportunity" to pay in advance for an untested and unreviewed product is available "now."

The product is not.

This is a distinction that matters to some.

Congratulations to everyone who buys keys from these sort of websites.

An especially big shout out to those who believe all that guff about being ‘official’ resellers.

Where do these discount keys come from?

Quite simple; your greed and naivety are promoting credit card fraud. How does this work?
A thief has obtained someone else’s credit card details and wants to turn these into cash.

They will buy repeated numbers of copies of games from official websites. They will not activate these codes or keys; they will simply sell them onto the discount websites who will look the other way, pay these crooks and then resell them to you.

Avoid these sites like the plague. You are simply encouraging crime.

Thank you so much I am truly humbled to be congratulated for making a personal choice, tonight I'm going to the supermarket to get dinner instead of the local butchers, I hope that gets me some plaudits as well. You know it's not often in society that we get congratulated for doing things of our own free will, like yesterday I went and did the washing up, did the missus congratulate me? No!!!

But thanks to people like you, spreading lovely congratulations for our own actions which have absolutely no effect on your life whatsoever, that takes courage man so once again thank you, thank you, thank you 😊

@MarcG

There’s no way around it mate. It’s simply one of the many ways criminals work.

Unfortunately it’s so endemic these days that it’s almost impossible to stop.

Next time you or yours become a victim of credit or debit card fraud, this is one of the many ways these crims monetise that theft.

You think this is some sort of victimless crime?

Wrong. We all pay in the end. You think the banks and Credit card companies simply absorb these costs when they refund their defrauded customers?

No, its added onto everyone’s bank charges and interest rates.
You don’t like me pointing this all out ‘cause you’d like to continue burying your head in the sand?

Ho hum…

I just got back from the shops and someones bought all the tin foil, was that you? making a hat are you?

Here's an idea, give it a rest! there's far more important things in life to get worked up about than where people buy their video games from when it doesn't affect you. Get a chill pill, load MSFS and go fly somewhere nice, I know I am 🙂

You want me to be quiet about crime that affects all of us, including the devs who often find that their own banks will force them to refund these fraudulent transactions?

When you went shopping did you notice all those signs that shops put up these days explaining how the growing cost of shoplifting is being passed onto you, their customer?
