October 16, 20241 yr https://fudzilla.com/news/ai/59896-nvidia-wants-to-employ-50-000-workers What a rosy picture he paints: AI that will only help the huge army of paid human workers, not replace them, or so the says. Nvidia will lead the way doing this altruistic work for humanity by selling them their AI GPUs. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 16, 20241 yr Sorry, but I don't trust any of these corporate tech titans. These companies exist to make money - period. They do provide a good for humanity in the form of innovative products and services, but make no mistake, they are anything but altruistic. I think a lot of people don't really understand what AI is. They make it sound like it's just computers and robots doing much of the work, but we already have that. The whole point of AI is that the computers will actually learn and get better at their tasks over time *without input from a human*, to the point where they will perform many jobs much faster and better than humans. Many tech jobs that are performed by humans today will not exist once AI algorithms learn their jobs. Take for example call centers - with voice recognition and AI, all those thousands of jobs will disappear. Factory automation will also increase to the point where an entire factory will only need a few maintenance engineers to keep the equipment going and some IT folks to maintain the hardware and software, and even some of those tasks could eventually be replaced by AI software and robots. This is why some tech titans have already stated that in the future there won't be enough jobs for everyone, so society will need some type of minimum basic income for all the unemployed. October 16, 20241 yr A lot of us are old enough to remember back in the 50's when people were worried about "You could be replaced by a button." Well, it happened, and civilization didn't end. Remember: Change is inevitable (except from vending machines). How many worries that kept us awake at night ended up having an overall positive effect, possibly after a period of adjustment? October 17, 20241 yr Author AI can be amazing. For instance watching a YT video on the Bronte sisters, I saw a dim blurry picture that looked like Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre cost 1 pound 11 shillings 1 pence. But the image was blurry, I couldn't be sure. The price seemed way too high for a book in the late 1930's or thereabouts. Average wage was probably 30 pounds a year! Searching on Google for information on prices at that time would be an adventure and take forever. But Edge AI Copilot told me the whole scoop in 10 seconds, all neatly laid out. My question was: how much did a book cost in England in the 1830s? Answer in 10 seconds: In the 1830s, the cost of books in England varied significantly depending on the type and format. For example, a typical three-volume novel, known as a “triple-decker,” was priced at around 31 shillings and 6 pence (31s. 6d.)1. This was quite expensive for the average person, making books a luxury item primarily accessible to the upper classes. That's a pound, eleven and six for a 3 vol. novel. Almost identical to 1 pound, eleven and one that I thought the picture was showing. Books cost a fortune back then! 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 17, 20241 yr I saw an advertisement for one of those vacuum robots the other day which quite amazed me. This thing had cameras and was able to identify various objects so it would know what to avoid and what to vacuum up. I doubt it uses AI, but eventually it could, so it would learn from its mistakes like humans do and become better and better at its job of vacuuming. Military drones are also beginning to use AI to determine what to target. Welcome to Skynet. From that report: Quote The study also notes the long-term risk of software that recursively improves itself. Some experts say such self-improvement could lead to a superintelligent AI that takes over the world. Although that scenario may seem remote, researchers still want the field of AI coding to institute guardrails, built-in checks and balances. Fr.
