TacFlight Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior - Released

Featured Replies

I didn't know this was a thing, sounds pretty cool;

- New MSFS Toolbar Menu: Access the 58D Painter directly from a convenient toolbar in MSFS.

- In-Game Livery Creation and Editing: Design and customise liveries specifically for the TacFlight 58D helicopter in real time.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

I assume it'll work out of the box with MSFS2024 (said hopefully) or if not, freely upgraded to work with '24.

That livery tool could be really neat, I wish this was done with other aircraft going forward.

I'm tempted, but 2024 is near the corner.....

I have the new one in DCS World, and the older freeware one in X-Plane.

It's a wonderful airframe and a joy to fly. Very stable and precise.

I hope this one does it justice - if it flies well, I'll surely get it.

Holy cow this looks awesome!

Kinda a niche of a niche addon but I love a great chopper!

I could use that FLIR to find the bad boys!

Taking a closer look now that I have some time and I'm seeing some modeling & texture issues, e.g. the Mast Mounted Sight is too small, and some other mis-modeled things like the vert stabilizer and sat com antennas, etc.. The overall proportions seem...off...in certain ways. I'd be interested to see it overlaid on actual plans, etc.

Oh, and the blade droop is weird - a pet peeve of mine.

Anyhow, I'll look out for some reviews and see what the folks say. I'm not jumping at it for $36 without some 3rd party validation.

Does anyone know if it will be a free upgrade to 2024? And has anyone tried it in VR? Does zoom, focus work? Unfortunately the majority of helicopters(cowan,Toag) are not bothering to add this to their products.

I haven't heard definitively from TacFlight on 2024, so I recommend emailing them.

I know they are working through additional fixes and updates now, one of which may impact VR, in that I requested that they remove the pilot "head" from the virtual cockpit view (when choosing to display the pilot crew member via the book interface) due to aspects of the helmet geometry interfering with some view angles. It's something they may address among other concerns to include nav light orientation, a texture issue I encountered, and a suggestion of mine to enhance/modify the way the rotor blurs when spinning (especially the tail rotor).

With that said, it's been a week or two since I've heard anything from them in general. I recommend emailing them for insight into 2024 plans. I believe their email is located in the flight manual (available since the latest patch), otherwise you can get it via JustFlight Support. I hesitate to post it here due to web-scrapers that can lead to an abundance of bots spamming their address.

I just picked this up for FS20. While I feel like the modeling is excellent and also a joy to fly I’m finding some pretty glaring issues.
1- Fuel burn is far from realistic. A full tank yield an average range of 30 miles. Yes just 30 miles. The consumption ratio is obviously way too high. Tested this 5 times with various load configs and empty still cannot get much further than 30 miles before needing to refuel. Very odd.

2- When set to hide doors the flight ends with having to restart or end flight. Yes I know the sim setting for this can be disabled to avoid this, but that’s something nobody should have to do.

3- After shutting the engine off and all power etc. the engine audio externally continues to be fully audible, as if it was never shut down. Rendering the Kiowa cold and dark after a flight should also be silent.

4-The cockpit audio with engines running is very very quiet. Too quiet. I have to turn up my speakers so high that ATC sounds like they are behind my chair with a bull horn at my head during any communications. Badly balanced cockpit audio.

i don’t want to sound like it’s a bad add on, it NOT! It’s mostly really quite nice and fun to fly. I think the texturing is actually quite good and shows a lot of care taken into creating it for Flight Sim.

There are a few other minor bits that don’t quite add up but not big enough to really make any fuss. The 4 issues I mentioned are in my opinion in need of developer fixing. As is for the money it feels like some corners were cut to bring it to marketplace. The fuel issue is the most annoying. Were it not for that and being forced to 35ish mile refueling throughout the flights I’d be less concerned with the other things. But all together It just shows a lack of refinement for a relatively high asking price.

I eagerly await a patch.
