Opinions: which airport & regional scenery is most lifelike?

Featured Replies

If you could only choose 2 or 3 airport sceneries as most lifelike/immersive/whatevs, which would you choose for small, medium and large airfields?

I'd think that a nice regional scenery like Orbx TrueEarth would be a great complement once you're up in the air, so please feel free to add something like that in.

Can be anywhere in the world, just needs to be your preference for most immersive.

ORBX GB True Earth for a larger area. Too many quality airports for this "dead sim" to list. 😁

SimWings Heathrow would be top.

I’m a big fan of WF Scenery airports.  VHHH/ZGGG/ZSPD are all very immersive in my opinion.

another one is SEQM from Flightbeam.  I’ve flown in and out of that airport about in real life and it is spot on.  Very scenic mountain approach and departure as well.

Probably FTX Norway + some Norwegian airports, incredible scenery and multiple options regarding aircraft.

Kind Regards,

Peter

For large airport only CYYZ by FT, but combo of airport and area would be CYVR by FSimStudios with FCScenery British Columbia. Medium and small I would need to think about although flying into FSDG Mauritius is pretty nice.

Just as an FYI since ORBX products are referenced in this thread, ORBX has started their black friday sale and many of the products mentioned here are discounted by 40%.

No problem.

Some airports that I really want that are unfortunately not on sale with ORBX are LOWS and LYTV.  They look to be high quality and immersive with their surroundings.

I think compatibility with P3dV6 but I could be wrong.

Both are updates for P3Dv5, but only ObjectFlow for P3Dv6, so I think for P3Dv6 you're correct.

As somebody said earlier, the OrbX "True Earth" family of products are the ones that best fit to the word "lifelike". You get satellite/aerial ground texture, accurate autogen, multiple specific scenery objects and landmarks, and even some customized airports and airfields, in one package. To me, it is the best value for money in P3D, excepted if you are a 100% liner pilot for which a dedicated major airport scenery would be more suitable and profitable.

I would however disagree about the "FTX" family of OrbX products. I would not tell them as "lifelike". It works reasonably well for areas that you are not familiar with, but despite all the improvements they bring, it's still generic scenery. It's just "much more accurate" and "much more enjoyable" than default, but that's it. It's not "lifelike".

After the OrbX "True Earth" products, the OrbX local airports would be second place, since they include not only an airport/airfield, but also its surroundings. These sceneries are actually even more "lifelike" than the TrueEarth products, but their coverage is limited to the immediate surroundings of the airfield, so it makes sense 🙂 This is to me the highest level of "lifelike" you can get in the sim.

There are other photo-sceneries from other providers. I'm thinking mainly about FranceVFR for example. I'm not sure how it is today, but back a few years ago, they had two lines of products: photoscenery-only with no autogen, and full photoscenery+custom autogen ("3DAutomation" or something like that). That second line of product would qualify for "lifelike" I think. However, on my current computer with P3Dv4, the performance was just abysmal, to the point that these products couldn't be used at all and I had to uninstall them completely.

Is EU England worth getting? I have the three GB True Earth packages. My only low level flying will be in England.

I would say no... unless you really want to replace your accurate ground photo textures by genetic ones...

I can only compare with the PNW area: I had the PNW regional product, then switched to the TrueEarth one. The regional one had more custom scenery objects (for example the firewatch towers in the mountains), but the TrueEarth is much more pleasant when flying low.
