2024 controls total confusion

Featured Replies

I am not even going to try to configure my controls after reading this thread. I will wait and see if they can sort this mess out. In the meantime i can grab a settings file from any number of users who posted theirs online for BMS.

  • Forget about the default FS 2024 profiles - you have to create a new one from scratch, so: 1) use the cogwheel to "Duplicate" one of the default profiles and name that "RY Basic Stick"; 2) w

  • Yes. You must first duplicate a profile and then rename it to whatever you want. Thereafter, any changes you make in that new profile will remain. Very confusing in the beginning but once you get it,

  • That's what I did, actually. rather time consuming process to get the new commands up and running. But now it is operational & almost completed. Kind of like building the death star. 😂

Hi Sethos,

Thanks. Yes I did see the "input repetition" boxes. Unfortunately on some bindings the tick is stuck and I can't seem to disable it. But the mixture lever is actually pulsating back and forward when attempt to control it, as though another controller is influencing it, but when I check, there are no other mixture bindings.

Rob, make sure you search in a"per controller" basis. For each search you're searching only among the associated properties (General, Airplane controls, Specific controls) for a given controller, so it might be the case that you search within the bindings of the controller which is selected whn you run the search, but that axis / button / ... is assigned in another controller.

Got it. Thanks so much. I'm getting there slowly. On the mixture: For some reason if I leave mixture bindings alone FS2024 appears to bind mixture automatically (strange but true). Many thanks for your offer to take me through it further, I'll let you know if things get challenging!

Hi Rob.  I have a been an FS user since FS2 in 1984 on a PC Jr.  I remember you did some great work back then and really admired what you have done. I have been having more trouble trying to set up my controls now than I ever had before.  I remember Bob McKay and all the other guys back then.  That was a wonderful and exciting time, using our imagination and going to those great conferences.

I have watched Many videos on this subject and still having problems.  This thread, I think, will be very helpful. Part of my problem may be that I am now a lot older and probably having a harder time 'concentrating'.  I will now try following some of the advice from this thread.

Thank you all and take care,

Howard Bloom

Well, that would be difficult for you to do now anyway, seeing as you already got a refund for it:

You, erm, did get a refund for it, right?

Steam denied the refund request because I spent more than 2 hours using the game. Of course, that was all installing and trying to get things setup.

You should challenge it. I've seen others on the official forums getting refunds after 14 hours after explaining their problems. Please.

Tried again. We'll see. If they deny it again you could always start a GoFundMe lol.

FS 2024 is going to get additional development in the Control Settings area to I believe, or at least some good tutorial / manual to help users understand the "idea" behind it...

At my age ( 60 ) I am probably a kid for some of you, but my brain age is around 80+🤣 so I am really starting to struggle to learn new stuff, even in this area I like so much... Took a while for me to start following a controller assignment strategy for FS 2024 with my 3 controllers, and haven't yet managed to make EdTracker work as efficiently in the sim as it works in Condorsoaring 3 😕

My only which is that they can make axis tunning specific to each profile, instead of automatically spread through all profiles, because some aircraft would surely benefit from some "good curves" 🙂

I haven't bought the game yet but I wonder if It's it best to start by deleting Asobo's preset commands and starting with a clean sheet?

I have started to write down all the commands I use in 2020 to make the transfer easier, because from what I understand I can use the same keyboard layout that 2020 has, or am I wrong?

Like a few other people here I also had problems initially with the whole control setup thing (not helped by all the smug "it only took me 10 minutes" type responses being posted). But I also recognised that it was going to be down to me to figure out how it worked rather than Asobo "fixing" everything to suit me.

I already had a tab in my sim spreadsheet with all the MSFS2020 keyboard commands listed along with my own allocations on my controllers, and so I started creating an equivalent for 2024. First thing I found was that there seem to be a lot of new commands for the areas I've looked at so far (cockpit and drone cameras) and a fair few of the allocations seem to have altered. Next thing was the realisation that I didn't even know what a lot of the command descriptions actually meant. Asobo seem to have decided to use all sorts of terms in ways I wouldn't expect, and there seems to be a lot of duplication in the commands. Plus I still haven't worked out what all the "locked" business is all about. And as ever, no documentation or help worthy of the term.

But . . . it has meant that I've learned a few things about the commands and what's possible, and I will end up with a much better set of options assigned to my various controller buttons. I do think some of the changes were unnecessary, as if the keyboard allocations were done by a set of coders with no actual knowledge of the previous setup, but in general I prefer how it is done now over the 2020 method (and I much prefer the interface for 2024 generally).

Of course, if it all ends up getting hosed or gratuitously changed again any time soon I will come back and rant along with everyone else <grin>

Anybody notice the propeller control is reversed? High pitch vs low pitch is reversed....full forward control should be low pitch and full back should be high pitch.
