Why Career App?

They will tell you that in APL you can fly any plane and any route you want, but what's the point of that?

Onair is by far the best add-on, the problem is that it is not cheap.

Many talk about the 2024 career mode, at the moment I do not see that you can use third party aircraft, that is a very important limitation for me I do not fly aircraft by default.

What you are getting at is usually where I end up with career add-ons.  I totally get why people like them, and I've messed around with them in the past.  Ultimately though, I would just rather fly wh

@Simon_C Previously I flew with VAs but that got annoying and or boring fast. They have rules on how often you need to fly or which aircraft you have to fly. Sometimes I’ll fly loads in a month or not at all for a month, which would get me suspended from VAs. Other times I got bored of flying the A320 for the hundredth and still wanted to do the route just in an aircraft if my choosing. Then other times I was just downright bored of the region I was flying it.

So I went and purchased APLv2. It gave me the flexibility to fly what I wanted, the contract options let me fly as infrequently as I wanted. However, I still got some semblance of organisation with an airline and its flight schedule and when I’m bored of an airline or region I apply for a new airline. I spent 2 weeks in Colombia with Avianca and it was gorgeous, then some time hopping around Europe with Austrian and some weeks after that I was island hopping with Caribbean air.

With regards to your comment on flying to default airports, I suppose that’s a factor that’s important to you. For me it is what it is, sometimes there’s free airports I use, otherwise I just deal with it. If you require that you fly to only your purchased airports then you may need to just build a random generator of your own.

That’s really only if you choose to do so, it won’t contribute to any form of progression in the program as it’s not part of the program’s main flow, which is flying for airlines

You can use the Navigraph app for that. APL’s website also has a map showcasing all active flights.

Ahh nice, wasn't aware of Navigraph. Just tried it out - exactly what I need! Thanks!

Exactly. I am aware of this mode, but it doesn't make any sense if I don't get anything out of it. Right now, my schedule is bringing me back to EGKK always, which is my hub for Wizz Air UK, so at least 50% of landings is with a custom scenery, and a good one at that. Rest, I actually bought addons I was flying to, which at least I was planning to buy with time. However... I am also checking whether some other airlines in EU fly to those destinations, so to cover them at least partially. Right now was at HESH... terrible. But hey... it's what it is, as you say.

I am planning on building up in Europe, my aim is toward Lufthansa and Austrian, as I have both EDDF and LOWW, I think it will take many flights until I am good enough to enter those, and after that I should have enough XP and everything to move to other regions, my next would be either Islands in Caribbean or Australia. And then build up there, if possible. But I am very interested in general scenery, I know the difference in earth-scenery is big.

You misunderstood. The software doesn't consider if you have an addon or not, it simply creates a schedule for you. You can refresh it until you get some airports you have, but generally, it doesn't consider them. So you end up flying to airports that you have no addons for. This is the only downside I see with this software. I'd rather have an option to do that, even if some flights happen twice.

Ahhh yes I see what you are saying.  Depending on the airline though, the routes do become a bit predictable especially if you fly from a base.  Since they are real world routes you can certainly stock up on the most common airports the airline you virtually fly for goes to most often.  That’s what I’ve done and it’s worked well.

APL's own users have asked for this several times but for some reason the dev and his train driver moderators think pilots in real life have zero control over their schedule. I don't think anyone is asking for a seniority based system but once you get to a certain rank you should just be able to create your own schedule or at least preference certain airports. Instead we got A Random flight generator (ARFG) and A grand tour (AGT) which nobody asked for.

Oh, wasn't aware of that. I had hoped that something like that might be in works. But that they deny... somewhat sad. I will see how I proceed.

What does OnAir bring more to the table? 3€/Month won't kill me... but if it's way better, especially with own schedules or something, considering what airports I have.

I like OnAir and actually use it alongside APL sometimes. I work for JetBlue in APL and have all my FBOs in OnAir at their destinations so whenever I have a flight I have on my schedule I'll just select a job from my FBO and fly it along aside APL. I don't always use APL but I do always use OnAir. The subscription is worth it to me since they push a lot of updates to improve it and I like the management aspect while I'm in cruise on my flights.

This is interesting. Got a few screen shots you can make of it and post somewhere?

I have made a copy of my master Google Spreadsheet and made it public to you can make a copy to tinker with and/or just look at.

This is not a "public" release, as in there are no explanations for how I have anything set up or how to use it.  But anybody who wants to make a copy can feel free to do so.

You will need some familiarity with spreadsheets, formulas, etc. if you want to dig into how it as done. But everything is visible there for you to see. There are no macros or anything terribly out of the ordinary. Just lookup formulas, randomizer formulas, pull down menus drawing from lists of items, etc. The checkboxes are there to "regenerate" the random fields.

Charter Aviation Simulator PUBLIC

Quick overview.

The FCA, BAC, PNWC, AK, HAWAII tabs contain the list of airport, individual links to information for each airport and the randomizer for that sheet. You have a Home airport and an Alternate Airport. You can pick those to be whatever you want, of course. You fill that field in manually. The destination airport is then randomly generated when you click the checkbox at the top left on and off. There is an additional section at the bottom left called Two Airport. That will randomly generate both a departure and arrival airport.

When you have your two random airports, I typically like to copy and paste those to the HOME sheet where there is an overview of all of your virtual charter airlines. As the randomizers update with any change on the spreadsheet, in order to not lose the random airport that was generated, I place the two airport in the HOME sheet, which are static.

All of the sheets with different charter airlines work the same way.

Once you have have your route, you can now go into the Mission tab and generate your mission. Just click the checkbox. The values it pulls from are on the right. I normally keep those columns hidden, but I made them visible so you can see. You can, of course, change these values to be whatever you want. I use simply numbers. So the "6" can be 60, 600, 6000 dollars/euros. Whatever you want.

Then there is a simple BANK sheet, where you can keep track of your money and missions, etc. Purely optional, of course, but that will gamify it more if you want. Pick an airplane you like to start your career, and then assign money values to the airplanes in FS2024 based on real-life values, and then work towards getting the next plane. etc. You can make it be what you want.

You can see that it is set up to easily just make a copy of one of the Virtual Airline sheets and set up a new Virtual Airline by changing the airport information on that sheet. All of the randomizers, information links, etc. will automatically pull the new airport data. No re-programming, or anything like that is necessary.

Have a look and let me know if you have any questions.

Hm, I either work, google, watch YT or some movie on the PC. But the aspect of doing OnAir while in cruise... dunno, would have to try it.

However, I don't quite understand your concept. What is the FBO? So you actually use two apps side by side? Can you give me some examples?

I downloaded On Air, watched a couple of videos, and got a headache trying to set up a flight,  and uninstalled it. I'll stick to APL V2. 😉

@salasnet Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I will check it out and play around with it. Already made a copy.

made a list in EXCEL of all addon airports (official full name not ICAO code)  I have and sorted them by continents and then randomly customise the order of airports then you can fly to one another.
