Gulp - Re-Install required

Featured Replies

That would have been my reaction if I had to re-install 2020.  However, I didn't have to worry when my 2024 drive died last night.

Installation was 6.5gb that took a few minutes to install (Steam).  Started 2024 and pointed it to the drive where my community folder resides - seconds.  All of my controller settings, career mode progress and all other settings were remembered from the cloud.

Yes. Very true. Just as an FYI....when I had to reinstall 2020 about a week ago, I just removed the OneStore (copied and paste somewhere else), then reinstalled. Then put the folder back in its original location. 2020 installed within like 10-15 minutes. It recognized the previous 2020 onestore folder. Just an FYI.

But having to reinstall 2024 overall is just easier.

Spending all day reinstalling is a rite of passage in the flightsim world

With all due respect, keeping the vast majority of the files is not reinstalling.

On the subject, I agree that, for example, the update to the beta version that was, for me only 9.5 GB
is a very welcome change from the 441 GB MSFS Official folder.

Reinstalling 2024 feels like less of a hassle than loading 2020 up for a flight.

Feeding in those scenery DVD's one after another...

And then another day messing about with config files in notepad.

Bliss....

The MSFS 2024 install doesn't feel like an install.  That said it is easy to participate in the beta.  Maybe SU2 for me as I enjoy flying in 2024 so much.

I have never even gotten close to those numbers.

It’s because almost all of the content is in the OneStore folder. Core files are just a couple of gigabytes.

All true. Most of the reason for the reinstallation of 2020 has little to do with the 2020 OneStore Folder though. Most of the issues are from mods/addons etc. But if these are all removed and you've tried everything then copying this folder to a different location (and the putting back when reinstalling).

But ah. It doesn't really matter. 2024 installs a lot faster. Its hardly a blip in comparison to a lot of software.

A few days ago, when I reinstalled 2024 to try it again (after nuking it in frustration) it was like less than 7 minutes. Another 9 or so for the beta yesterday. It is bliss. Now that Fenix, some JF planes and my BS KA and Bonanza work. I am happy with it for a while. Even the Cessna 310 is working fairly well.
