AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Following, as I had never heard of this before, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I notice that it uses the base scenery download from autoortho, I don't know what that does in either program.

I have auto ortho, and only use it when flying along with my own or others generated higher quality stuff.  I'm thinking that when I heard him say ARC base, this is interesting as ARC are very protectionist of their satellite data, I have been kicked off their servers several times because I used too much of a download of their tiles.

I will have to check this out.

I have it installed and it works great.  It’s free to use but you can only set it to medium quality.  For the high setting you have to pay 5.00 a month or 40.00 a year.  It loads up fast about two minutes after starting the flight.

Aurora R16, Intel® Core™ i9 14900KF, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4090, 64 GB: 2 x 32 GB, DDR5, 2x 4 TB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD

Lo he estado usando durante bastante tiempo para las áreas donde no tengo cobertura ortho4xp.

I have been using this for some time for areas I don't have covered with Ortho4XP

That does not sound legal , it sounds like the program is taking Bing/Arc's imagery and then charging a monthly subscription to use higher resolution. I'm amazed the developer is getting away with it

He has  years getting away with it is a widely used program in MFS.

As I see it, the program just locks an API request for higher zoom levels of any downloaded imagery behind its paywall. That's as if O4XP Free only supported zoom levels up to 13 unless you bought O4XP Pro which supports ZLs up to 19.

I dug around some more:

  • Even if the program is nothing more than an enhanced AutoOrtho, the only issue with legality is that the author apparently does not include a copy of the original license (Apache 2.0) for any unmodified bits of original code - which are buried somewhere within the excutable file.
  • The base package aparently uses a (modified?) AutoOrtho base scenery ("_ao_" in filenames), which is not licensed. But I wouldn't rate that as a big deal as the original AO base scenery is also merely a worldwide O4XP generated scenery, without the textures.

Not worth fussing over.

The only thing interested users should ask themselves is if a commercialized "AutoOrtho+" is worth $40 a year.

That's the worst instructional video ever! FWIW, https://github.com/derekhe/xplane-map-enhancement-release/wiki/Manual-EN might help. Also, see https://x-plane.to/file/1559/x-plane-map-enhancement

I use AutoOrtho and am currently downloading / installing Map Enhancer.

I have no idea how X Organizer is gong to react!

Just wonder why none is making stream Orthodox texture over default mesh, which is much better than the AO mesh now. and no need for download and keep another 50G+ of file.

It is much better than auto ortho, but whether to pay 40 will depend on each individual, like everything else.

I prefer to invest in storage and unload my own orthos to free my processor load but you have to recognize that map enhacement does a very good job in x-plane and MFS (separate purchases).

Yes I agree...map enhancement is a game changer for xplane 12... it's brilliant!

Because it's frankly not possible, otherwise it would have been done long ago.
