March 2, 20251 yr TL;DR which is better on performance Nvidia Filters or Reshade? I've been using Reshade for a while now, and I really like what it adds to the sim...the picture quality is phenomenal. However, I recently decided to a real time "on" vs "off" comparison with the default lighting and discovered that with the shaders I have selected, there is an 8-10 FPS hit (4-5 normal frames). I wasn't really expecting that since I'm not using things like bloom, DOF, etc that can be performance heavy. I've been reluctant to install the Nvidia app since it's yet another program running in the background, but if it proves easier on performance, I may give it a whirl. Thoughts? March 2, 20251 yr Nvidia filters still don't work in 2024 with the latest driver, as soon as we try to enable the first one the sim freezes. Had to disable them in the Nvidia app. Hope they fix it in the next driver. March 2, 20251 yr I've used Nvidia filters in the past (with MSFS 2020) and found that, for all their bloatware, they didn't improve my overall sim experience much (if at all) - just gobbled up valuable system resources. I haven't even bothered trying them in 2024. *However* - I've used Reshade throughout and found it a much better solution all round. I can enable/disable filters quickly and easily (in-sim) and have profiles set up for specific locations, where I feel overall terrain colouring etc. is wildly out. The Reshade popups warn you which filters/settings may have a high impact on performance, so it's easy to fine tune your various presets. Edited March 2, 20251 yr by Adamski_NZ

That's odd, as soon as I enable the brightness filter the sim freezes and I have to ctrl+alt+del to close it. And I've seen others in the Nvidia forums and MSFS official forum with the same problem. I will try again though. Can anyone else confirm the filters are working in MSFS 2024 with the Nvidia app installed? March 2, 20251 yr I used to love the way XP11 looked with a reshade preset. I would love a reshade preset that would make my msfs 2020 look like this: I find that REX ATMOS is the easiest one to use, but the terrain color feature is still INOP. I'm still waiting for their 1st update. I have to give Nvidia Filters a try. Thanks for posting. MSFS

I find it interesting that I have FG on/off and still have issues. There are still intermittent problems leading to crashes or performance issues. Something is wrong here, and I suspect it's related to MSFS20020, which has a problem with DX12 (beta), and MSFS2024, which has additional issues with NVIDIA drivers or the app and the RTX 4090/5090. The other noticeable problem is if you disable the FG, there is a performance degradation, ex., on the RTX 4090/5090 I'm looking at about 30% performance loss. Something has to be fixed at ASOBO or NVIDIA. Other software or games don't show any of these issues. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

I have been using GFE Details filter for years and much prefer it over HDR10 and the Details filter is also what I am using in 2024 now. I also found problems with the NV app so uninstalled it and installed GFE from circa 10/2024 NV driver package, and it works great with or without NVidia FG operative. Also, and this is critical in this thread: there NEVER has been a performance impact in 2020 nor in 2024. Do be aware the Details filter has several sliders within to fine tune effects.
