Frame gen is awesome... until I noticed the downfalls

Featured Replies

So I am slowly trying to convert over to 2024. Main reason that I haven't is because of the countless add ons that are not 2024 compliant yet.

Anyways, the PMDG 772 ER was a big push for me to make the jump.

I have a 5080 and the performance is amazing with all of the bells and whistles turned on.

But things like the stage 1 fan of the engines looking like they are about to explode is awful.

I am thinking of turning frame gen off. Has anyone else?

Sorry, I didn't understand. You mean that the animation of the engines is somehow affected by frame generation?

Best regards,

You're willing to discard all the benefits of FG just because of that ?

Seems so. He sacrifices doubled FPS and smoothness for a fan blade animation that is visible only in the outside view, where we pilots should not spend that much time. So in 99% of the cases, you wont even notice it... each to his own, but for me, the advantages of FG outweight the visual artefacts by margins...

I can relate to this. I have just checked out the MM Simulations EBLG Liege product, and it looks quite nice. However, when I checked out the surrounding scenery on Google maps, I noticed that there was a blurred out area of scenery on the approach path to the 04 runways. To be perfectly blunt, this kind of thing annoys the hell out of me. Even though it is possible that I would not see these blurry textures from the cockpit, I still know that they are there. That is enough for me to reconsider my purchase decision.

It sounds utterly daft, but that's how it is with me. A similar problem stopped me from using the Pilot Experience Sim LFRB Best Bretagne addon.

I wish that I could ignore stuff like this, but it just gnaws at me, and ultimately affects my enjoyment of the flight. Maybe avi8tir is affected in a similar way with the FrameGen artefacts?

Hey Cousin!  That's me as well, but with Frame Generation itself.  I can't stand the artifacts that are associated with it on the main display and the judder that happens on the main display whenever I move mouse focus back to it from my 2nd screen, which is nearly constantly happening.  I've been shocked others tolerate this quite frankly.  I find a solid 50FPS-native is amply good enough in terms of frame rate and happily use that rate to avoid the artifacts associated w/ FG.  Often I can increase the rate (in runtime w/ keypresses using RTSS' HotKeyHandler) to 60 or 70 when up in the air--makes zero significant difference in panning or anything else, so don't bother.

In SU3 2024, there are 3 choices for framegen scheme for Nvidia 4000 level or above gpus:

DLSS

FSR

LSFG

FSR does not blur glass screens like DLSS does. But I perfer DLSS (I have 4000 series gpu)
