June 2, 20251 yr For about a week or so when I hit "Quit to Desktop" it closes the window, but the sim is still running in the background. When I go to XBox to open it, it says it is already running, but no sim is displayed. The only way I can close it by using the Task Manager. Anyone else having this, and how can I fix it. June 2, 20251 yr Already logged as a bug, apparently fixed in the upcoming SU. Msfs 2020 will not shut down fully - Bug Reporting Hub / Install, Performance & Graphics - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums
June 2, 20251 yr Known bug. Addressed in SU16. Until then you will need to close 2020 with task manager after ending your session. If you search for this topic you’ll also find a handy batch file. Good luck! -B
June 2, 20251 yr If you have windows 11, you can turn on a function called "end task" and use that to close MSFS without using task manager. https://pureinfotech.com/enable-taskbar-end-task-close-apps-windows-11/ Edited June 2, 20251 yr by Bobsk8

June 3, 20251 yr Anything like that for Windows 10? Even when I shut it down in task manager it still shows as running on Steam. The only way to clear it is via reboot, which is annoying.

June 3, 20251 yr Just to clarify, the Steam version of MSFS is not impacted by the issue when closing the sim. Only the MS Store version is impacted. The bug described earlier, about Steam not recognizing that MSFS has been closed, is a different issue that I hear for the first time. The recommendation about, to kill and restart Steam, seems to be much more convenient than rebooting the computer, so I would also recommend this. I have sometimes seen Steam not recognizing an application closed, but this is usually a matter of few seconds before Steam actually awakes and recognizes the closure. I will keep my eyes open and report if it happens to me too. MSFS Steam on Windows 10 here.
