Similar custom building roof colors all over the world?

Featured Replies

I have just found the roof colors of the custom buildings are mostly the same in different regions of the world. They are mostly white and light brown. I am very surprised I haven't noticed that before. Maybe it's because I mostly flew in mountain areas and photogrammetry cities in the past. I have tried a lot of different countries and cities. Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Shanghai ... they are all of the same color. Just try Venice with photogrammetry turned off, and you will see its roof color become white and light brown. Venice, can you believe that? Is there anything wrong with my setup, or is it also your case?

Which simulator? 2020 or 2024?

Cheers, Søren Dissing

2024 beta 3. But I have checked with Youtube videos, and MSFS 2020 seems to be the same.

If that is not a bug, is there any addon or that can change the color of the buildings? Even better if building type can also be changed.

Acabo de descubrir que los colores de los tejados de los edificios personalizados son prácticamente iguales en diferentes regiones del mundo. Son mayoritariamente blanco y marrón claro. Me sorprende mucho no haberlo notado antes.

Welcome to the real world of autogen at MFS which represents 99.99% of the planet.

The autogen that the sim draws always looks that the underlying colour of the roof, so this has to be some kind of bug or interfering add on on your part.

If you turn off PG, that is expected. The sim is made to run with PG which, along with Bing streamed textures, are the most notable graphics features with respect to the old generation of FS.

Therefore, autogen has not received too much love.

I see, but most places don't have PG yet. And PG doesn't look good close up. Many people still prefer autogen, and really wish it could be better.

PG often subtracts more than it adds, which is why many of us have turned it off.

Starting with gigantic vegetation, alien-shaped plants, burnt or melted buildings, confusion of objects and elements etc.

Anyway think that except for flying helicopters (which is not the forte of MFS) or some bush flying you really shouldn't worry too much about autogen, this is a flight simulator and from 3k feet it is no longer relevant.

My flights in MSFS 2020 are all very short and low, so the graphical quality of the autogen buildings is definitely important. Fortunately, most of them look pretty decent, even at relatively close range. I am also reasonably certain that the roof colours are not all the same.

And let's not forget that the autogen in MSFS2020 and 2024 places essentially every building in the world in its correct location and with the correct footprint  -- a revolutionary advance. No other sim does this.
