I knew you would say that 2024 is " fantastic." ,  LOL

For texture sharpness even out to the horizon, it is.

It's how the game is designed sadly. New LOD system is a regression.

  • Weird, much more clarity for me than 2020 ever had. No tweaks or third party fixes either. This is at 4K, DLSS, TLOD 205, most at High or Medium, four at Ultra.

And yet as I say the Front Range (bordering Denver area) is far more detailed than 2020 ever was.  What are you referring to?

The Alps mainly; both European and New Zealand's.

They have what I can only describe as 'rounded' textures on ridge lines. They're no longer crisply defined, especially from the middle distance.

I thought you were only flying X Plane??

That is hardly mid to high altitude.  There is no question at the altitude in this image, 2024 is better detail-wise.  I see this out of my home airport, KBJC, where the Front Range is far more detailed in 2024.

I will gradually gain altitude.

Correct, but credit where credit is due - 2024 has very nice and sharp ground textures in many places.

Only if there are SSD external HD's. Regular HD's will not keep up with the transfer rate.

Yes, true. I should have noted this. But external SSDs are now available, cheap, fast, and easy to install -- just plug in, no need to open the computer.  I have two.

I also think the scenery in some areas has higher LODs and is sharper.  I'm sure the Grand Canyon is modelled to an inch of perfection up to far away, yet some generic mountains in Turkey near Antalya look dreadful, as does Table Mountain from Cape Town International.

I really DONT like using this enhancement mod, but I find it gives me an improvement all over the world.

Sorry guys, is default MSFS 2024 supposed to look like this with LOD of 200?  This is spawning at LTAI and I don't know if anyone else can compare.  This to me looks absolutely miserable.  I have dynamic settings OFF.  Anything else I could be doing wrong?

How many meters or feet above ground level there?  When I think middle to high altitude I'm thinking 20 to 40K feet.

I think you have completely forgotten the qualities of FS2020. From what I have already shown you, you will not obtain this sharpness result with FS2024. As I told you, I will go up in altitude. This way you will have the complete package.

The only useful comparison Filou is to look at identical scenery at the exact same time of day and altitude.  I did this just yesterday, at KTEX.  I set the plane at 25,000 feet above ground (ground level is over 9000' at KTEX.  It's subtle, but even at that altitude 2024 has the superior detail.  Down low, it's no contest and that from the much higher polygon count in 2024.  It's difficult to capture in screenshots that are compressed but on my screen I looked very carefully and saw the differences, side by side:  2024 greater detail.

That's partially true, mainly because I've found myself not using FS2020.  As I've maintained in large part they are the same sim.  Sometimes areas will look better in 2020, sometimes 2024, and a huge element of subjectivity is involved as well.  One thing about 2024 that I don't like is color saturation is too high, unnaturally high, overall.  HDR10 probably accentuates this so perhaps 2024 was developed more w/o using HDR10.  The entire package of 2024 though is very compelling which is why after I initially installed it just played around in it then over time found my self not opening 2020.  There's a reason for that which comes down to where 2024 excels over 2020, and it does in enough areas to have me using it exclusively now for maybe two months now.
