I found them by a fluke when I was playing around in frustration last night, and actually making a mistake to get there. 4k, ultra, smooth as silk! Really, really smooth as butter. I couldn't believe it. I need to test again to make sure I am not making a fool of myself, and maybe capture some video to prove it. I am not sure if this combination of settings (mainly in the sim) are widely known about, maybe they already are and I am making a fool of myself. Some of the settings don't make complete sense, but it is giving me the best performance I have had in any sim ever, and it really is that smooth, and the PC is unusually cool and quiet. Is it too good to be true? This is on latest SU3, and great visuals apart from the odd LOD issues we are talking about. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I am still getting great performance but loading time is almost double now and can't see a reason for it. It goes back to loading at the front screen just after the KLM A330 when putting my settings back. MSFS2024 is a strange beast as we know. People who are already getting butter smooth 60FPS at 4k ultra settings won't be impressed, but I have never had it on my PC before, I am amazed. I can actually fly tubeliners at major airports with full traffic for the first time. And this is with an early 14900k that is slowly degrading due to the intel manufacturing issues (I need to get a replacement or go AMD maybe), which to keep it running is underclocked and locked to just 5.2Mhz on just 6 P-cores, no hyper-threading, which makes the performance I see even more impressive. So I would like to share some settings I have found in case they are of use to anyone else. This is with this latest beta, 4k, ultra / high settings. Maybe it is just me getting over excited, but this is the best / smoothest I have ever seen on my own PC by far after struggling for ages. Even when trying for 60 fps and reaching it when the sim isn't doing anything complex, it still seemed to be a bit stroby or not quite smooth - maybe inconsistent frames is one way to describe it. Frustrating and not enjoyable! I basically found this sweet spot by accident, and will share the full settings in a following post in the next hour. It's all very easy to do, and easy to put back if it doesn't suit you or your PC. If you already have a super-fluid 60 fps at 4k on ultra settings then you don't need to read this... (People with 9800XD's and 5090's maybe etc. ) It is just that I have never been able to achieve this before on my PC so I am personally quite pleased with it. Some others won't understand the fuss of course and won't be impressed at all - in that case, just skip over this, it is just that it has transformed the sim for me, and might help others with a similar spec PC that suffer with stuttering/hitching etc. So this is in SU3 latest beta. 4k (3840x2160) on a 60Hz monitor, all settings just about maxed out at ultra apart from a few (like trees etc.). No Freesync or G-sync as it didn't work very well for me. Now for the first thing that amazed me. I have an early 14900k underclocked and locked to 5.2 MHz so that it doesn't keep crashing and toasting itself due to the notorious degradation problem (need to get a new one or maybe look to the next Ryzen maybe). Still, no CTD's for ages even with this cranky old 14900, and with these setting I found, the PC runs cool and quiet and is also rock stable even in the beta's, and after flying up to 3 hour sessions. Also, get this - 12 of the 16 E-cores are deactivated in the BIOS, and also only 6 P-cores are active, with hyperthreading turned off as well. That is what makes this all the more remarkable for me. This video was taken at MKVY's amazing 2025 Gatwick, with Just Flights FSTraffic on 300 minutes before departure rather than the standard 90. (If you don't know what this means, it means LOTS of traffic). I have also gone to a fully loaded Frankfurt with Asobo's A320Neo v2, the same result - smooth as silk. Basically, I am still trying to max the sim out to find the limits with these settings. If anyone can give me a scenario let me know and I will try it. So, I downloaded OBS Studio and learnt how to use it just to post up my first video. Take into account, this is my crippled 14900k running underclock on just 6 E-cores, hyperthreading off, and while recording in 4k 60Hz through OBS Studio in the background. (and afterwards I noticed my browser and a few other apps running in the background as I am a bit stupid). There are a few hitches in the video that I never saw myself when flying, so maybe the cause of it is OBS or the YouTube upload / conversion process. I am not sure if this is a know thing as I am new to this. Disappointing to see the odd one in the video anyway. It never happen for me while flying, just the odd micropause when loading scenery etc. It is available at 4k 60Hz for those who can stream it quickly enough. If not just pick a lower resolution (it must be at 60Hz though, or you won't see the smoothness at 30Hz) to watch, as I am only trying to demonstrate the smoothness by moving the camera around and showing the Tobii eye tracker smoothness when looking closely at the instruments / panning my view around looking out of the windows, and panning around outside the aircraft with Gatwick in the background etc. (That is MKVY's Gatwick in the background with traffic movements). https://youtu.be/nmod8MDdSZ0 PS. Try to go full screen 4k 60Hz if you can stream it! Edited July 23, 2025Jul 23 by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). July 23, 2025Jul 23 Firstly, Nvidia Control Panel settings. I don't know if this is important or if they contribute, but they are the settings I have... All normal except: - Anti-aliasing gamma correction - OFF (I have heard it can affect performance and the sim looks no worse with it off). Max Frame Rate - OFF (This is set in sim). Vertical Sync - ON (I set it here to override the sim setting, which never seemed to work for me, I still got tearing). Drivers are fairly recent - 576.80. I actually think arguing about which drivers to use and how much VRAM you have or is in use is totally pointless after setting these settings - for me anyway. In sim. The settings such as LODS really don't seem to affect this. Mine are at 200 and 250 respectively, but I have tried up to 400 without much of a noticeable hit. Most of everything else is maxed out. I do have trees at just high though. I also find Shadows at 6144 in the user config instead of using ray traced shadows had a big benefit, well before I found these new settings anyway. Now for the meat! I dare say some of you won't like what they are, but just give it a try yourself if you have been struggling. It takes just a few seconds put back. Also, this may only work on a 60Hz monitor, as different refresh rates will require the max frames to be different - basically half of your monitor refresh. Display mode = Fullscreen Full scree resolution = 3840x2160 (4k) Anti-aliasing = DLSS Super Resolution DLSS Super Resolution = Quality AMD Fidelity FX Sharpening = 120 (doesn't matter, just my setting - yes this AMD thing actually works well on Nvidia) These two are the important ones, and what transformed it for me. Max Frame Rate = On, and at exactly 30 (For a 60 Hz monitor, anything else will not do - not 29, not 31 - you will get hitching etc). Don't worry, it looks nothing like 30 afterwards! Frame generation = AMD FSR3 (this was a revelation to me with an Nvidia card. Silky smooth. DLSS FG is nowhere near this for me - still fuzzy and stuttery. FSR3 also seems to improve the DLSS fuzzy numbers). Some caveats... 1. You will need HAGS on in Windows for this. I found mine was already set. 2. Initial sim loading times doubled at 30 max frames. Work that one out! How can this affect it? Mad. Anyway an easy work around is to set max frames to off just before quitting the sim, then set it back to 30 before flying. It takes but a second! Note that when locked at 30 frames, it doesn't seem to affect in sim loading times at all, so that's good. Anyway, if you think it may help, or you have been struggling, simply give these settings a quick try - It's easy to put back. Mainly for PC's just on the edge of smoothness but not quite making it I think. Mine has certainly crossed the line. Performance wise I actually enjoy flying the sim now, even with airliners at big airports. It has transformed it for me with my spec of PC and a degraded 14900K.
