All in the spirit of friendship and benevolence. 😂 I really think you are projecting too much into that. Can you please explain me what kind of comments/threads will be allowed in the XP-dedicated part of the forum if every positive once is considered an attack on users from another part of the forum we used to have arguments with? Perhaps you can explain that to all of us, since many here already had some "discussions" with users from other forums. I would appreciate if you could clarify that for us. i9 12900k, RTX 3090, 32GB RAM
July 27, 2025Jul 27 Commercial Member Ok gentlemen. Let's all take a breath and not let this forum degenerate into something another forum is known for. I'll put this down to an unfortunate misunderstanding. Shake hands and let's continue.

I mentioned shimmering because it was brought up in the video. Right after my post, @Litjan made a comment about bait, which I assumed was directed at me. Very little, if any arguing happens here, unless it's started by someone from outside the X-Plane forums...if you take my meaning. Franz just wanted to showcase the magnificence of X-Plane 12, without any hidden meanings.

I used XP12 for a few months after its release, drawn in by the lighting. After buying the Challenger 650, but before I really got to grips with it, I drifted back to MSFS 2020, then 2024. Lately, I’ve become disillusioned with MSFS, as features I value have been eroded - likely due to the need for a shared PC/Xbox codebase. The LOD system culling visible traffic is one example. Since I mainly fly GA, traffic visibility is a big deal for me. I kept checking in on XP12, and the buzz around weather and lighting in version 12.2 proved true. The atmosphere is excellent, and GA flying feels far more rewarding. Traffic may be hard to spot in real life, but at least XP12 renders it when it should be visible. Over the past few days, I’ve been dusting off the Challenger 650 to broaden my aircraft choices - what an enjoyable learning curve it’s been! I have got as far as the APU start and FMC programming so far 😊😂 Edited July 27, 2025Jul 27 by MrBitstFlyer CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090 Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440 Internal Storage 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

The sim already looks impressive, but it's going to look truly amazing once TAA and multi-core support are implemented. The updated graphics coming with those improvements should be amazing! Interestingly, MSFS2024 has just received some more negative news: according to the latest update, the Map Enhancement Tool now states that MSFS2020/2024 no longer supports high-resolution textures. I’m glad I made the move to XP12 when I did, especially with all the downgraded features and restrictions showing up in MSFS lately. A lot of these changes seem to be aimed at maintaining compatibility with the Xbox — but disappointing for PC simmers looking for maximum realism. The shimmer's been there quite awhile now, it's not a 12.2 thing, if that's what you mean by new lighting? MSFS doesn't NEED Map Enhancement in the first place, so not sure why that's "negative news". MSFS isn't getting "downgraded features and restrictions" - the sim is continually advancing, just like XP is. As long as we're praising XP for features that haven't released yet, the pending MSFS SU3 provides significant benefits and fixes to the actual problems the sim has. Why don't you just stick to good news about XP instead of feeling the need to denigrate another excellent simulator...?

The shared codebase makes realistic simming on the Xbox possible. It's a positive, not a negative. The series X is about the equivalent of a RTX 2070 Super. By optimizing for these specs, they are ensuring PC users on lower end systems can enjoy as well. The developers already addressed your sentiment in many live streams and essentially said they are not downgrading. The sim makes use of the available hardware. In fact, they stated that the optimization work they do, such as memory, often benefit PC users as well. Not everyone wants or can afford a 4090 like you and me. In any case, the SIM makes use of the available hardware. 31 minutes ago, UrgentSiesta said: Why don't you just stick to good news about XP instead of feeling the need to denigrate another excellent simulator...? From the same thread I posted... 'As I understand it, Laminar are indeed pushing forward - weather and lighting have seen major improvements in the latest version of XP12. Meanwhile, I’ve grown increasingly concerned about the direction MSFS seems to be heading. While MSFS currently does serve the needs of serious flight sim users very well, some recent decisions appear to prioritize a unified experience across PC and Xbox, possibly at the expense of PC-specific capabilities. For example, seeing the Map Enhancement Tool now state that high-res textures are no longer supported feels like another step in that direction. I do enjoy MSFS 2024, there’s a lot to love, but it’s starting to feel like the platform’s future may be geared more toward the Xbox audience, rather than fully leveraging what modern PCs can offer.' Praise for XP12 and praise for MSFS. July 27, 2025Jul 27 While the author is not telling me anything new (XP is immersive, especially in helicopters in VR), I like the summarized, narrated style of the video. And compared to the other video that was posted from the channel, he did not talk over the cabin announcement this time (which itself talked over background ATC chatter), so kudos to him. That landing though...but I'm all too familiar with having a good final to ground contact, but screwing up just right after.
