Excuse me, but "by definition," other than the beautiful concorde that Flight1 and SSTSIM (?) came out with for FS9 a few years ago, I have never read a manual but for a few scant pages for certain details here and there. Yes, I hop and fly very successfully, even with the PMDG Queen of the Skies series. I do not equate quality with a technical manual of any size. Quality comes in the aircraft and its systems of their own, not because of a technical manual. THe problem here is, I don't want an MD-11. I want the NGX or a 757. No matter how much time, effort and quality that was put into making the MD-11, it was never an aircraft I wished to have in my stable. Will I pay $85.00 for the upcoming 757 from flight1? Yes!Randy Jura, KPDX

>I don't think we need to discuss the price of this add-on, it>is a personal thing, what might be expensive for you is not>expensive for me and vv. What I would like to know are more>details about the plane, how does it compare to other high end>add-on such as the 744-400 or Level-D's 767? How do the>systems work etc??>>BerndI agree. I pay around $75 dollars a week to go play golf and it doesn't even phase me. $80 for something that I will get a few years of enjoyment out of, instead of 4.5 hours of golf for $75, seems like a good deal. Beside like Geofe said, its a lot cheaper than paying $70 per hour for a Cessna 152.

>This bird took 4 years of development, employing 9 persons>for a result which is a masterpiece of coding, graphics and>documentation (more than 1.500 pages!!...do you know the cost>of technical writing??)>Moreover it is the price the 744 was sold but then... the word>"recession" was far from our minds.>IMO, comparing its price with FSX is a non-sense. We are not>at all on the same market.>Just my two cents.GTA4 took 3 and a half years, cost $100 million and had over 300 people working on it full time, and it only cost $60.

Yep and if PMDG could sell 30 million copies in the first few days then Im sure the MD-11 would cost 30 bucks. Dont make absurd comparisons, flight sim products dont sell in the volume a XBOX or PS game does.

>GTA4 took 3 and a half years, cost $100 million and had over>300 people working on it full time, and it only cost $60.Yeah, great argument, economics 101. Tobacco companies spent decades on research, pour $ billions, employ thousands and a pack of cigarettes can cost as little as $2.00. Michael J.http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9320/apollo17vf7.jpg

I'm sure it's a great product as I have purchcased and used PMDG products in the past. You can either afford it and buy or not. I wish someone would consider an aircraft simulator for the very hardcore at a reasonable price point. I know I have become used to looking for the eye candy when the fact of the matter is that if someone chose to they could develop an aircraft with all systems and just forget the eye candy. Every airliner simulator I've ever seen was a huge box on spindly hydraulics. No wings, flaps, elevator APU inlet, hoses etc. You don't need a 3D model that will fly in FS period. You can put a cockpit and systems in a brick and it will fly just fine. Just a thought. All that eye candy costs money. I haven't heard about any airliner pilots flying outside the aircraft.CraigLian Li PC 65B CaseCorsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX 620W Power SupplyPlextor PX-810SA/SW-BL DVD/CDGiagabyte GA-P35-DS3RCrucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)Arctic Freezer 7 ProIntel E6850 Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache @ 3.6 GHzEVGA 7950GT KO 512mb 169.21_forceware whqlSeagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATASeagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATAVista Ultimate SP1

More automated than a 777? You're kidding, right? Randy Jura, KPDX

I'll throw in my 2 cents since everyone else is. From what I remember, the 747 was pretty much the same price when it came out for FSX. At least it seems it was after buying the cargo version, which if you wanted the EPR and other goodies, then it was worth it. I don't think the price for the single version is a bad deal, and I'm unsure at this point why too many people would want the dual platform one, but I can see why people would like it to be FS9/FSX for the single unit price.Personally, I'll never mess with FSX, so until the FS9 version comes out, I can't say too much. I love the MD-11 and I know the systems will be amazing in the PMDG, so it's worth it if you really want this plane, which I always have.I only hope the FS9 version doesn't take too long to come out, but I'm broke and busy right now, so I guess it really doesn't matter...

They charge what they do because they think its a fair price. The fact that it sells at that price, and sells well and the fact they havent had to lower prices due to any huge blowback justifies their price point.

>More automated than a 777? You're kidding, right? In many respects, yes. An example would be the way you don't even have to touch the MCP/FCP speed knob for the whole flight, it lands with the speed window closed and under FMS control. The MD-11's PROF mode is much more advanced than Boeing's VNAV as well - it does things like dynamically scaling speed restrictions upstream to ensure you can always meet them. The 777 will disconnect, revert to VNAV SPD etc in the same situation. There's numerous other areas too.It is a lot more advanced than most people realize - like I said, I was the same way until I started learning about it.

Again, how does it compare to their 740-400 and Level D's 767?ThanksBernd

For what it's worth. I now have the MD-11. I loaded mine last night and flew it from KLGB in its PMDG livery here to KRNO. I have to say the PMDG MD-11 is totally different from every other add on. First the MD-11 is itself different from Boeing and Airbus products. When I got the PMDG 747 the experiance I had gained with the LDS-767 gave me a big leg up. The systems in the MD-11 might be familiar to someone used to operating the LDS-767 or PMDG 747 but they flat out don't work the same. The result is tonight I have my nose back in the manual. The MD-11 is a whole new learning process. The next thing is the level of detail. Sure if you can fly the C-172 in FSX you will be able to figure out the rest of the stock aircraft. Face it they aren't that different. When you get into any of the more detailed add-ons the differences become greater. When the detail level and the complexity of the aircraft both increase the differences are very stark. knowing how to use the autopilot in the stock 737 doesn't prepare you for using the FMC in either the LDS or PMDG 747 same goes for the TCAS and other systems. Now take the level of detail in the PMDG-747 and increase it. Put that new level of detail into an aircraft unlike anything else out there. Yes it is more advanced than a 777. Yea I really wanted a short range jet. But this MD-11 is a whole new experiance and well worth it.
