Performance enquiery for fs 2024

Featured Replies

Anyone using an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor with a 9070 XT card? I would like to know what kind of performance you are getting in fs2024 at 1440 resolution , especially VRAM usage. I want to upgrade from my RTX 3070 to a 9070 XT as I am totally maxed out with my 8GB nvidia card and that's already with reduced settings.

More VRAM will certainly help and 2x frame generation helps too.

Lower TLOD, Lower OLOD and lower texture resolution and clouds as they are all big hitters

Use dynamic settings or AutoFPS helps a lot too.

Some say turning iff fauna makes a big difference.

Hope this helps.

There must surely be some one with a 7800X3D and a 9070XT flying in fs 2024 - come on guys 🤪 where are you all hiding 🫣

AMD cards are not very popular... If it can be useful, I have a 7800X3D with an RTX 5080 that has the same VRAM as the 9070XT. I am not satisfied with the performance and the VRAM usage; at large airports it gets sucked up completely and ultra settings are not manageable with only 16 GB of VRAM at the moment (3440x1440/TAA).

At high settings, VRAM is more than sufficient in any condition but nevertheless, the performance is very variable. Taxiing, taking off, landing at large airport is affected by bad stuttering, even disabling traffic completely. There are people with RTX 4090 and 5090 that have the same problems on the ground.

I'd say that for IFR / airliners, MSFS + FSLTL or another traffic addon is still the best option even with a high-end system.

If you like to do bush flying or walk as some people seem to like here, FS2024 undoubtedly offers better graphics and good performance.

This is fundamentally the reason why on the forums you read that "some people have problems and others don't": we simply use the sim in different conditions.

Thanks for the reply - so will 16 GB be enough if running on HIGH and not ULTRA?

Yes, enough to run the sim but not a guarantee of good performance. In certain conditions, even 32 GB of VRAM isn't.

16gb vram should be enough to run at 2k but not at 4k.  I run my sim at 2k with my rtx5080 at mostly high settings.

Heaven knows what kind of super computer you need to run this SIM on ultra.

With the immediate caveat of YMMV, in my experience, 12 GB works perfectly well.
Here it runs well on a 43" monitor at 4k and 144Hz.
It looks to me as if MSFS uses a percentage of the VRAM that's available to it, rather
than a fixed amount.
As with any hardware and any software that can demand more than the hardware is
able to deliver, settings are the key to a satisfactory outcome.

Thanks for the responses folks - appreciated.

Every hardware setup is different for sure.

Purchase the best hardware you can afford!

I have a 7900 XT (20 GB) 1440p and Ultra default will use up VRAM and produce resource errors (SU2).

If I just set texture resolution to 'high', I'm OK on VRAM and I've struggled to see any visible difference.

PMDG 77F, 738, FSL A321 at large payware airports.

I'd wait until SU3 is released before buying anything 🙂

I had my 7800X3D installed when MSFS2024 was initially released. I hated the CPU performance and upgraded. The perf will be ok but i wanted something better than ok.

As for the 9070XT i upgraded to that card from the 6800XT and the performance coupled with the 9800X3d is great for my resolution 3440x1440 .. just dont expect to run everything at full ultra because you will occasionally hit the VRAM limits. I do plan to upgrade the GPU again due to this issue to either a 5080 with more VRAM or whatever AMD comes out with in response (If they do)

Not necessary. I'm running 2024 just fine with my setup from tube liners to low and slow. And having no issues whatsoever. I was never a big fan of AMD cards, so I can't comment on them. Been running Nvidia cards now for over 20 years, I guess that's what I'm comfortable with.

What are your settings? Frankly speaking I doubt that you can taxi, takeoff and land at big airports with airliners without stuttering.
