No landing gear visible for AI traffic in MSFS 2024.

Fun fact: AIG models are designed within 2020 LOD Limits and have 5 LoD. Sadly the Sim ignores those and culls the wheels (those are part of the LoDs, so it sees the Sim is fa strikter then its SDK limits)

Thank you Kaiii3!  This just confirms that it is a sim issue not a per model issue.  Also why it impacts more than just landing gear.

I am guessing from your perspective there is nothing to "fix"

ASOBO has to fix it. Since one year we do have this issue

What is the solution to this problem, Kai? Assuming that there is one.

No idea, Jay (our 3d-design guy) is still on 2020 and we have actual all no cluewhy the SDK values are fine but the Sim rrsultis different.

All the landing gear missing on VATSIM aircraft appears to be a separate issue, as restarting the traffic injection client fixes it.

Chewwy94 was doing VATSIM spotting yesterday on stream and tested that, the landing gear would reappear upon re-injection

That's correct, all AI aircraft in the immediate vicinity will then have their landing gear visible again. If you wait 2-3 minutes, the next AI aircraft that land will again not have their landing gear visible.

I use FStraffic, FSLTL then AIG for traffic (with batc priority) and only notice with some aircraft nearby. I can see how this could be frustrating for some but couldn't a part of this depend on the models? When zooming in for a plane on final every now and then its missing gear. A lot still have it...

Do people use MSFS for plane spotting?

This is an unfortunate result of "increased performance" (render less = higher FPS) ... see thread where Matt adds some interesting information.

It's a big issue for me because the change in how MS/Asobo cull objects doesn't impact just landing gear (many other small objects, taxi-way signs, cars, lamps, etc.) and still seems to impact objects that do have 3-5 LODs.

Ran some recent tests on iniBuilds EGCC new release that is native 2024 ... it looks very nice, but the aggressive culling of small objects is still happening even with LODs defined.  I think their is a bug in their implementation, perhaps wrong point in the graphics pipeline, but honestly have no idea ... just hoping the LOD curve that is apparently in SU4 Beta will solve it ... fingers crossed.

I suspect part of the issue is that the exact same SIM is used by Xbox users and  needs to run on XBox

They don’t. If they did we wouldn’t even be able to change the graphics settings

Maybe "no repro" means they can't consistently reproduce? Otherwise, I agree it makes no sense.

More like it they don't consistently use the sim, they just go there check something and out again. If they used the sim this would be fixed a long time ago...

If these aircraft have been built in 2020 and are 2020 native aircraft packages, then they should be using 2020 LOD rules.

If you are finding that they are not, and you have a solid repro for that, please report it on the DevSupport forum, as that is not the intended behavior and is an important backwards compatibility issue that the team would be very interested in.

If, however, you are building these packages in 2024 (despite being non-modular 2020 style), then they will obey 2024 LOD rules, and you may need to separate the gear to model attachments and optimize them for the new rules. If properly done, then they will not disappear.

As for folks using the stock AI models, as mentioned by Jorg in a Dev Q&A, those models are being worked on to eliminate breakages of the LOD rules in those models that are causing issues, and the LOD rules themselves have recently been changed to be less stringent, especially at long distances.

As mentioned in the same comments by Jorg, there was some contracted art he is not happy with, and it has taken some time to find alternative art teams and resources to assign to these art bugs. However, they are actively being worked on, with updates most especially for default aircraft non-AI models coming in SU4.

Models are 2020 native and build in 2020 by our developer (he has no 2024). Weitere saw those missing wheels/ignored LoDs already in 2020 so I am not sure if this is actual a 2024 only issue....

When I am back home I will collect some data and forward that to ASOBO
