And, yes, Han shot first.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Has anyone else noticed that there are almost no new, original, or revolutionary movies and TV shows any more?  Everything is either a remake/rehash or slight variation of an older movie, theme, plot, or concept.

I have noticed a similar issue with music and video games.

Have humans already reached the limit of their creativity?

Studio bosses have reached the limits of their appetite for risk.

Agreed!  Why put maximal effort into a game or movie when followers will buy it even with minimal effort.  Before long, they'll probably be assigning most of the creativity to AI/Skynet.

The guy on the left has combined a wheel and a fire to make a fire pit.  Two old ideas used in a novel way.  The guy on the right, perhaps a bureaucrat, can't quite wrap his head around it.

In another context, the guy on the left is making the first wheel, and the guy on the right is complaining that it will make all their jobs obsolete.

In yet another, a bunch of guys from the right are sitting around a fire saying, "We should ban this before someone gets hurt."

I'd prefer to see new movie ideas rather than recycled old ones, but if Hollywood won't do it, independent creators will.

In a recent thread I talked about preferring foreign film makers.  I was thinking of something like "District 9" from South Africa.

PS.  If I don't hear the line "THX-1138! Why aren't you at your post?" then it's not the original Star Wars.  That line got quite a chuckle from our sophisticated audience in Washington D.C. on the very first showing.

THX 1138 has an modern aviation ATC tie in. While attending USC university (in Los Angeles), George Lucas was a radio fan and as a hobby listened in to ATC traffic coming in and off the runways at I think LAX. He was majoring in film and entered a student competition.

For a plot he was inspired by ATC traffic chatter. He used soundtracks from ATC to play while his characters were fleeing the police in the movie along "runways". thx 1138 was an amateur extremely low budget student film but it won the university contest 1st prize.

So his first Hollywood movie was version 2 of the same plot, but with a bigger budget and better production values. There was an even later movie by a different producer (not George) called Blade Runner which is set in Los Angeles but has a greatly modified plot.

The old amateur USC version of THX 1138 is I think still on Prime. The audio sometimes suggests ATC chatter. I think the theater version is there too.
