Formula E is around street circuits, so might be entertaining.

200 mm (8 in) shorter, 100 mm (4 in) narrower. So we'll go from the footprint of a Suburban to a Traverse. Yep, still huge. This image will explain it better:

  • The problem is this has no benefit for road cars. The MGU is so powerful 50% it`s dangerous to humans, it must be contained in it`s own compartment that can be instantly isolated remotely for safety.

  • From time to time, one of the drivers will pass another car... In Nascar there are sometimes 2 or 3 passes somewhere in the field on every lap.

MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 are my racing favorites … especially Moto2 and 3 where every race you really have no idea who will win and lots of passing.

Formula E is actually the most boring of the lot. Mostly because it is all on narrow street circuits. These aren't really any test of driver skill or courage. It's about convenience for TV.

You win Formula E races in qualifying and in energy management.

The smaller classes, especially the tiddlers, have always been the most competitive.

Forgive me if I dont know what im talking about but isn't the MGU being removed for 2026?

Combustion engines return? For the new season its 50% combustion engine and 50% electric, so combustion doesn't need to return, its still in F1, so do you mean 100% combustion? Also, for 2026 they are using renewable fuels.

I'd be suprised if they move in the oposite direction and abandon the hybrid tech.

Again, I know little about F1, so apologies if Im confused

Old system MGU-H Heat energy from the Hot turbo exhaust charges the MGU Battery pack. New system MGU-K Kinetic energy from motion this works on the braking system only when the car is braking.

50% is as far as they can go on the electric energy system or it becomes Formula E then no point in have two Formula`s.

That`s why some teams say remove the Electric energy system completely would save money, and have full ICE powered cars that F1 pioneered the development of.

Definitely looking forward to this. I wasn't a big fan of the ground effect era 2022-2025.

Speaking of ground effects, I remember back in the late 70s or early 80s, Elf-Tyrell had a rather unique experiment with ground effects.  After their six wheel F1 car, 4 in the front, they tried putting a large fan in the rear engine cowling.  The theory was that the fan would help suck the car to the road.  The problem was, everyone behind the car got pelted with all the road debris.  It never made it out of the experimental phase I believe.

Brabham actually did that with their BT-46. The car started at the GP of Sweden in 1978, and Niki Lauda won the race. The car was banned before the next race 🙂

Hmm.... I guess its tricky to determine at what point that is. For me, its not FE if theres a reasonable percentage of power from combustion, even though it might be less than 50%.

Thanks for the clarity Q.  Did I have my facts wrong, or did Elf-Tyrell try it too?

In the net few years there will fewer European GPs as the FIA want`s to move to other country`s. Could this be because of the green driven agender in Europe.

No, it's because petrochemical dictators are able to outbid European circuit promoters.

The circuit promoters are genuine businesses that operate on a profit/loss basis.

In the world of petrochemical dictatorships sportswashing - by buying golf tournaments, football world cups, F1 rounds, etc - seek to present themselves as shiny, modern societies with money to burn and let's try not to look at their human rights record too hard.

It also provides a handy way to channel money from Sovereign wealth funds into the hands of the ruling families and their accolites by way of funding circuit construction, stadium construction and associated infrastructure.

Put this way if I lived in a tax haven I would not care if they banned all cars, I`d only need a bike to get around. and I would not be be paying the taxes to pay for it.

Alaska is waiting for you (or Greenland or Iceland) … I still have no idea why we have big cities and so many skyscraper.  With current technology there is zero need for it … all that time and energy wasted that could be put to much better quality of life improvements.

Even bikes need paths … have you tried biking thru PNW with zero man made routes?

I live on a low tax island... and 120,000 registered cars. A bike only is possible, but given the many hills and the 120 square kilometres youd need good quadriceps and a good VO2 Max.

One thing that has changed in F1 todays cars will be sucking more Oxygen with the turbo for a bigger bang, than normally aspirated cars 50 years. And it`s CO2 coming out the exhaust more than 50 years ago. Renewable fuels will not change that more Oxygen compressed under load the better.
