Hi Bert,

That works for the bonanza turbo mod, but for some reason a similar mod for the DA62 loads with interior parts missing, no undercarriage and the props won't turn. The same mod works perfectly in FS2020. Oh well....

  • This may not help. I believe the first step to get organized is to move your location (the small ships wheel in My Library of msfs2024) to a new location with a short path. I use this path which I cre

@robert young I can only go by my personal experience with MSFS..  If there is a written explanation by MS, I have not seen it.

When MSFS 2024 was first released,  I decided to try some default 2020 aircraft because I did not like the visuals of the new Bonanza and King Air cockpits.  I copied them over from 2020 into the new Official2020 folder, and they worked!

However, with SU3 (I believe) they stopped working and I had to move them from the Official2020 folder to the Community folder, and they worked again, to this day.  I have nine 2020 default aircraft in my Community folder.

For the various mods to take priority over the default aircraft, their name needs to start with a letter greater than A, since the default 2020 planes all start with "asobo-aircraft".  This priority scheme has been with us since the early 2020 days..

Just seen this Bert. So for example I can keep the A for asobo-aircraft- xxxxxx ettc, but I must name any mods starting with B-Z? What about the manifest file? Is that also (in the description) starting with any letter apart from A?

That does not matter I believe..

Try a different livery.. may or may not fix it..

i think you are overthinking it.

Yes, that is what I said using a longer message. I dump every thing that I want to add into 2024 into community folder that msfs sees. And of course you have to use My Library (small cogwheel) to show msfs where that community folder is. Or you could just leave msfs using the default path.

Absolutely everything I put in there shows up in the game (I have to activate some of it of course in My Library).

Lets say I had a Whizbang Plane folder and a modification folder for the Whizbang Plane downloaded from flightsim.to in my old 2020 community. I just dump them both into the community folder that 2024 sees, exactly as they were in 2020. And then check in My Library that they are "activated". And they are always show up in the game. Sometimes there are issues because not all 2020 planes are fully 2024 compatible.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I really don't get why Asobo/Ms is making everything so difficult in MS2024, in Ms2020 we could just put everything in the Community folder, and it just worked. Now there's 5 or 6 folders  and I have a hard time getting things to work. So can someone plain and simple tell me where downloaded sceneries from flightsim.to goes? And the same with repaints for ie. Headwind A330 and Fbw A320? I have tried placing both the sceneries and the repaints in D:/MS2024(where I have installed the sim)/Community, but none of them shows up.

For me, it's not so much that they make things difficult, it's the fact that they never explain anything. They change stuff and don't publicise the changes in any meaningful way. Just providing an endless list of bullet points in any release notes (if you even get that) is not an effective communication method. One point might describe something like "more accurate colors for tail on xxx aircraft" and the next says "new community folder allocation". These are not the same significance or level of detail.

I doubt they're ever going to change though.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

You're assuming they can tell the difference. I'd ask around and see if Rube Goldberg is on any of the "teams."

It works best if you put everything in the Community folder, like 2020.  Just ignore the other folders (for now)..

As per Bert, just put it all in the community folder.

But just to double check, there is a way to confirm if MSFS is pointing at the right folders. When you go into Marketplace/My library, click on the settings cog next to the search box. There it states what community folder it is looking at and should be the location where you will find the Community folder.

For me it says G:\MSFS2024\Packages. If you open up this folder you will get 5 folders;

\Community  <-- copy downloads or add-on into this folder only

\Community2024 <-- i've the FSS Embrear in there, which was installed via Contrail app and it does appear in the sim.

\Official2020 <-- is used by MSFS to download 2020 items from the marketplace which the user chose to download instead of stream.

\Offical2024 <-- is used by MSFS to download 2024 items from the marketplace which the user chose to download instead of stream.

\Streamed packages <-- is used by MSFS for all streamed packages.
