FFTF Dynamic & Pilots Global Mesh 2024 worth getting?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have two separate questions:

Would I benefit from using FFTF Dynamic on my setup which is FPS unlocked in P3D, and VSynch @ 30Hz with Triple Buffering in P3D?  Sometimes I get blurries after leaving a European airport for many hours of cruise over Orbx OpenLC Europe.  I am wondering if this utility or any sort adjustment in my CFG could help?

Secondly, has anyone any experience with Global Mesh 2024?  It is not very specific on what level of detail it provides for various areas of the world.  I see it improves upon the Alps somewhat, but I have always found overlying the "foothills"  of the Himalayas in Afghanistan etc. a bit "soft" looking, even with Freemesh 2.0.  Does anyone have any experience/comparison they'd care to share?  Also - does this sort of mesh come at much of a performance cost?

Many thanks for any insights you care to offer! 🙂

Cheers,
Rudy

Firstly it would help if you posted your CPU, GPU and RAM info. Easier to judge why you’re getting blurries. These are usually caused by graphics settings too high for your system.

I would recommend Steam Lossless Scaling. Just 8GBP and it will transform fps providing you have a 3000 series Nvidia card or better. There’s an extensive topic in this subforum.

I’ve used Pilot’s Global Mesh for many years and consider it a very good upgrade over the default mesh. It doesn’t add to the graphics load.

I highly recommend Pilots Global Mesh! Very good product!

The mesh is a good addition, FFTF, not so much, unless you have an ancient steam-driven quad-core CPU.  In my experience, FFTF's benefits drop to near nothingness on a CPU with 6 or more cores.

I am gonna try to post a fun thread later today/tomorrow in prepar3d section today (after all these years).  @Ray Proudfoot suggestion for Lossless Scaling is a game changer.  I am using it and unreal performance.

Hi Ray, would this work with  - AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU

VRAM1 - 16304 MB - GDDR6 2518 MHz?

Thanks

With my Intel 6700k, my main problem is where to stack the coal in the lounge. It tends to spread black dust all over. The steam can escape out the window.

Yes. You didn’t list your CPU but assuming it’s in the same league as the GPU you’ll be fine.

Thank-you very much for your helpful replies, gentlemen.  Will look into the mesh I think, I don't like rounded Himalayas!

Coming to that - does the Tessellation setting have much effect on mesh appearance in your experience?

In answer to the FFTF query - I do have an ancient steam-driven quad-core CPU (a 6700K @ 4.5 GHz), and coal-fired Nvidia 1080 GPU.  Unfortunately, the extra baggage of doing the losless scaling just tips the performance in the opposite direction/gobbles too much VRAM on my system.  I have contented myself with VSync 30Hz which I can maintain in 4K except in extreme situations (have LOD radius Ultra, Autogen draw medium or high, building density normal or dense, trees very dense).

I apologise for the slightly tardy reply.

I am grateful for this forum with knowledgeable chaps on it!

Cheers,
Rudy

PS - anyone using low latency mode NVIDIA settings?

In P3D V6 Pilots Global Mesh would be a downgrade to the mesh detail in the default. And FFTF is not needed.
