HeatBlur F-4E: AccuSim-ish!!

Featured Replies

HeatBlur (of DCS World fame) are bringing their F-4E Phantom to MSFS - possibly in just a few weeks! 😁

BUT, this isn’t looking to be just another mid-grade mil jet port…

Instead of letting India Foxt Echo handle most of the conversion as with the previous F-14 collaboration (which simply never measured up to the DCS version in physics or systems), it seems like they’ve gone this one alone - AND are using their own proprietary external code to achieve their (VERY high) fidelity standards.

This is FANTASTIC news for everyone who really loves “the feel of flight” in an addon.

Depending on how successful they are, we should FINALLY have a Fast Jet that is at least equal to A2A Sims and Black Square addons in physics and systems fidelity! 😁👍

From HeatBlur themselves:

[Our] F-4E… in Microsoft Flight Simulator…is based on our Anvil component based simulation framework, offering the most authentic and deep phantom experience possible. Uniquely, our F-4 will push the bar and arrive with a fully custom external flight model, accurately recreating the phantom flight envelope and behaviours, and provide a familiar feel for all the phantom drivers out there.

Anvil technical brief:

Flight model and engine/systems brief:

And here’s some nostalgic sizzle to go with that steak:

No matter how you view military aircraft in a civ flight sim, THIS is likely an addon to have for anyone who truly loves to fly.

I’d like it if MS would figure out a Combat Flight Simulator redux! Barring that, AzurPoly’s pending Rafale is reputed to have sophisticated air to air combat features with radar and missiles.

Brilliant, whenever @UrgentSiesta gets excited about an aircraft , I pay attention !

Air to ground combat will be A Thing, too.

what I’m most looking forward to is that they’ve apparently simulated a decently realistic terrain following radar (for all-weather deep strike missions). 500 knots at 200 feet…? Through canyons…? In the dark, rain, fog or snow…? 100% on autopilot..? Oh, yeah! 😎👍

In the meantime, DCS World is the best overall combat sim.

Il-2 Sturmovik is great for WW2 ETO action with a wide variety of aircraft with great flight models

And the classic Falcon 5 + the free and utterly amazing BMS mod can give you an EXTREMELY realistic F-16c and F-15c experience. All for less than $10 😁🤙

Probably not as far from becoming a reality than some might think...

I won't say 2026, but maybe 2027 😁

Hmmm, just a conjecture 🙂 based on absolutely no evidences or factual information.

Yesterday I was watching a youtube about Jasom Williams having left the Combat Pilot project to where he moved after he left IL-2 Great Battles - 1C / 777.

Just as Petrovich left 1C / 777 to join ASOBO, I started daydreaming 🙂 that Jason might join something related to Air Combat and MS / ASOBO...  But truth is we never had any signs / hints of MS or ASOBO planning to go Combat Aviation...

Other than you get the whole world to fly in MSFS, what is wrong with DCS? Has a ton of military aircraft with great modelling and system details as well as killing stuff!

DCS would seem to be the best sim for military operations.

Ah - I see! 😎

yeah, that’s a sad story re Jason.
it’ll be interesting to see if they can push that sim across the finish line, or at least a min viable product to get some positive cash flow…

//

I’ll never say never, but I can’t see it being a priority for MS/Asobo.

Maybe if some big gov contract comes along that requires combat systems, they might enable the stubs on the consumer side?

Kind of a big deal as the combat would almost have to be modern era because of the scenery, instead of the WW2 era of the former CFS.

Not to mention needing to have destructible ground assets, etc

I guess they’re smart enough to figure it out, it’ll just come down to if they see enough upside to give it a try.

Main issue with DCS is that it’s actually not a very good general purpose flight sim. E.g., weather/atmospherics is like going back to Prepar3D.

Nav aids and such are relatively skeletal, and forget about GPS icao nav…

And that’s hardly all.

They’re kinda like two sides of the same coin…

If you want the best of both worlds then you are correct. When was the last time you played it? Things such as weather have been improved a lot, but agree it lacks in certain area's (not covering the whole world being one of them).

For sheer fun (especially in VR) when dog fighting or trying to strafe ground targets, you really currently cannot beat DCS.

Just wanted to add - It's great to have these jets in MSFS, no doubt about it. But for me it's more than just flying around in a military jet. Need to have my wingmen, awacs, fuel tankers, a whole squadron of different aircraft on a complex mission, as well as the systems depth of most of the aircraft. (including helicopters).

DCS is a great combat sim, just as IL-2... and my new kid in town right now... the one I am getting addicted to more than any other flightsim, just as I got with War Thunder some years ago - Aces of Thunder 😍 it's sooooooo Cooool !!! LOVE IT !!!

Play it 75% of my simming time, the rest being shared by MSFS, Condorsoaring and Xp12 in best effort 🙂
