Uninstalling 2020

Featured Replies

I am going to uninstall 2020 as I never fly it anymore.  Is there a trick to doing so in order to ensure it doesn't mess up anything I have in 2024?  I know that is a stupid question but thought I'd check here to make sure before i do anything.  They are probably independent of each other but i didn't want to uninstall it then have to reconfigure / tweak 2024 all over again.

Well, then I have nothing to add.

Uninstall away.

Let's ask @jcomm as he is the expert on uninstalling / reinstalling, he has probably uninstalled/reinstalled 2020 multiple times alongside 2024.

You are more courageous than I am, I still have not uninstalled 2020 even though I haven't flown it in over a year.  It should NOT affect anything of 2024 but you know how that is...just when you think something should work, it somehow doesn't.

heh.  Yeah, and he was online here a few minutes ago...hoping he would see this and give some insights.   I was sorta half-joking though.

You can safely uninstall. They are (as you say) completely independent. Only thing I can think of if you were using the SAME community folder for both 20 and 24.. but if you did that, you would know. It doesn't happen by default.

If you are using the same community folder, make a copy or change the name. Uninstalling 2020 will delete the 2020 community folder, so if that was shared with 2024.. you will lose it. Most people will not have this issue, this is not the default.

Nope 🙂  actually I wipped MSFS 2020 for good from my rig, to never reinstall it again, the day MSFS 2024 was released, and I honestly never though about reinstalling it...

But as others suggest, I guess you can safely uninstall MSFS 2020, maybe just making sure you do not have folders shared by both versions of MSFS, and if that's the case, then just for the sake of avoiding bad surprises, make a backup of such folders, namely the Community, it it's shared among both.

You're safe to uninstall.... and never look back 😎

Unless you're like some on here, who have one small frustration with 2024 and immediately announce to the whole 'airport' that they're dumping 2024 and going back to 2020 ....  4 EVA !! 😄

Probably via the control panel.
