It's sad, because you are about to miss out on one of the best ATC add-ons available for MSFS. Yesterday I did an IFR flight from KIND to KSTL and it was perfection from departure to arrival.

Maybe what you need is a vacation from posting at AVSIM. It will serve you well.

My issue with BATC is they drop these supposed "big updates" and they turn out to do nothing.

This sums up my feelings towards BATC. I'd argue that they have not significantly improved the basics in the year or two since I've owned, while instead, being content to issue "update" after "update" with shiny new features that really don't address flaws like the above. That said, am I better off with BATC or without? I'd say it still adds value to my sim experience.

Yeah, despite my complaining, I still use it. I just have to ignore like... 50% of its commands? And that hasn't really improved over the last year.

My vectoring has been much better lately (I'm on the main branch, not experimental). Other than the known issue with late descents, I've been getting pretty good vectors. No crazy wrong way instructions, basically putting me 30 degrees or so with the runway heading. I'm flying into smaller, regional airports with no procedures, and it seems to be doing ok. My last flight was into KELM, a very small regional airport in central NY.

I am stunned by how bad vectoring is in BATC. Any time mountains are involved it's just worthless and more often than not I just close it down. Just now, flight from KDEN to KPVU in the MAX 8 it tells me to descend and MAINTAIN 28K feet and never says another word re descent. So we're now 37 miles out and it asks me if I can see the field in sight. The other day on a different flight it asks me this when I'm 113 miles from arrival. I swear they are LOST IN SPACE when it comes to even this basic business. They get the grand prize for stellar UI and audio, but in terms of basic ATC?

Hello, I don't share the same bad experience as you. Today, I flew from LFBH (La Rochelle) to LOWI. Innsbruck has a very complicated approach and the weather was horrible. BATC gave me a vectoring approach for the R-NAV Z rwy 26. And it did it very well ! I have the basic implementation, not the experimental one.

You have often to manage your path of descent yourself, as when you are flying on virtual networks (IVAO in my case). When BATC is asking you if you are ready to descent, just answer "will call when ready". Then, you may follow your VNAV path and call back BATC when you are ready for descent. Check your altitude and if you are too high, ask BATC for an altitude change. I did it, and it did work. Sure, sometimes BATC fails, but not as often as some people are reporting here. Just my two cents.

Assuming you have the EA version and fly no-star arrivals - those (and in general vectoring) got some pretty big fixes on EXP. I suggest trying it again once they come to EA soon.
Also keep in mind you can always post a log on the discord support channel and let someone take a look at it, if you find something happening consistently to you but not to others apparently

I of course can manage my own descent but when ATC tells you to descend to X and MAINTAIN? It's just leaving you hanging, waiting for the release from maintaining a specific altitude you were instructed to descend to. Yes, it works fine sometimes but again, 113 miles out and it asks me if I can see the field in sight? And frequently when mountains are involved it's just pathetic. Not always, but way too often. And to not have error traps that prevent ATC from asking you if you can see the field 113 miles out? I don't get it.

Worth noting that the latest update (1.8.14) for the EA version now includes Navigraph Live Traffic - just testing it and it works very nice. Might be a good alternative to PSXT/RealTraffic?
