My apologies to those of you who fly helicopters, as you do live in a different world.

almost every time I fly a helo in the sim the melted look of the PG screws with my immersion

Depends on the Helo activity - I do a lot of the SAR career mode missions in the helos and since they are often rescues at sea or in the bush, the immersion is there for me. You are often starting at a rural airport and flying into mountains or other landscapes to pick out, land near, and extract the target. Everything looks fantastic to me the entire time.

Flying around the default Las Vegas without a city pack - horrid. The Sphere is non-existent. The strip is worse than the fight sim on google earth. However, at night, flying into default Las Vegas looks quite pretty, so the illusion remains somewhat intact.

  • I can't live without Photogrammetry, I'd rather have accurate if slightly low quality imagery then the generic autogen buildings.

  • The problem with this line of thought is that almost all of the Asobo marketing videos for MSFS2024 showcase very low level flying and highlighting their scenery down low. From helo flights to bush fl

  • You don't have to go to Asobo for that kind of marketing; right here in these forums, you can read a lot of hyperbole about this simulator as if everything were perfect. MFS is a good product, no one

I could swear that I saw the Sphere in the distance when I landed at UK2000 KHND Henderson Executive last week. Whether it was displaying anything is another matter. I do not have any addons for Las Vegas installed.

Increasing TLOD is the best way to increase the clarity of it. However there are some areas where TIN is just better than others.

Aside from that, just throwing money at it works too.... a better CPU and GPU, and very fast internet can help.

What is your current PC? And can you post a closeup pic of what you mean by "melted?"

edit: Melted is very subjective too. There won't be perfectly shaped polygons at 100agl but some areas especially ones with vexcel (like Denver) are SUPER nice.

This is a common misconception. T(errain) Level of Detail will increase draw distance and quality for terrain, runways, roads, coast lines, etc. The best way to increase your draw distance and quality is O(bject) Level of Detail. This will increase quality of photogen and photogrammetry. If you're getting melting buildings or buildings that pop in out of nowhere, the best thing you can do (if you can, but AutoFPS helps) is to increase OLOD.

It's not though. TLOD increases the resolution of TIN (and the distance at how clear it resolves to). I literally can set 100 with autofps, and change it to 400 and it sharpens it up. OLOD is a factor as well.

EDIT added pics. OLOD remains at 150. TLOD 50 vs 500. Mostly look at the middle of the pics... huge change in how sharp and clear the TIN is.

Based on those two screenshots, it still looks rubbish to me at TLOD 500.

Yeah to be honest they both look pretty average - And I don't actually see any difference which leads me to think that the former argument is true - That TLOD just increases the draw distance clarity and anything under the aircraft (or camera) is going to be repreented the same.

Have to agree with the other comments, I don't really see a significant difference, at least not that would be discerned in moving aircraft. Maybe in developer mode I would notice it more, but that's about it. Given the lack of substantial improvement, I would prefer to keep my GPU temp down instead.
