It’ll be interesting to see how well it stacks up against the MilTech Seahawk. Based on my experience with both devs, my moneys on Taog’s.

My money is on Taog's as well, easily. Every helo they have developed for MSFS 2020 and 2024 has been solid and a hit within the helo community. As for MilTech, I want so bad to love the Seahawk but they just have not done enough to make it enjoyable to fly long term. They promised a huge update for the Seahawk was coming after the BO-105 was released, but we have not see said huge update nor seen any real improvements to the BO-105, which still will cannot use a TDS GTN and also still has the problem of both engines being linked when you shut one off. I generally like MilTech, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but lately they make lots of promises and then are are extremely slow to deliver. The BO-105 was a decent release, but it needs some more love. When you look at a developer like BlackSquare (a one-man developer) who pumps out great aircraft for the sim and then updates them pretty quickly and routinely after release, it is hard for me to have such extended patience for MilTech. In the helo world, Taog is very similar to BlackSquare in quality, customer service and support, so it's no question in my mind which one is better right now. Taog all the way.

  • You do know that the Taog Huey from 2020, and all the rest of Taog's helos are fully compatible with 2024, right? I assume you know, but since you mention the Stanger Things Huey, I wanted to bring it

Does anyone know if this has any form of Helisas (AP).and if it supports the TDS GTNxi?

Yes it has a full AFCS (IRL). Theoretically it should be similar to the MilTech SeaHawk, but I sure hope Taog has integrated it with the FM a heckuva lot better than MilTech did theirs.

I am watching the first preview stream for the Taog Dauphin right now.

Microsoft sees that there is an interest in helicopters and improve their ones because almost all that come with the simulator are a joke (especially the 225).

The Defaults aren’t THAT bad.

After all, the 225 was made by HPG themselves. Just wasn’t finished before they imploded…

I haven’t flown it lately, but the 225 has been getting at least an update or two since iniBuilds took it over, and they fixed a couple of the AP issues, IIRC…?

And like I said above, even payware helos struggle. MilTech’s Chinook is using a single rotor physics model - and they will NOT change it(!).

And their Seahawk AFCS just does weird things.

Cowans S-76 is pretty good, but again, AP mode transitions can be abrupt and some other stuff.

What I’m hoping here is that Taog has been able to properly combine SAS/AFCS with his normally excellent “stick n rudder” helo FMs.

if he has, it could be the best general purpose helo in the sim. 🤙

I like to replicate flights in my locality, I'm so weak, I've just realised that The air ambulance that lands fairly regularly right next to my house on the park opposite for the local hospital is a AS365 Dauphin. One has just landed. Now I'm tempted to purchase the addon.

My local Coasties fly right down the beach here, so I see them pretty much every week.

They’ve been running IRL SAR missions this week and it’s always interesting to watch the patterns on FlightAware. (Sadly, it was all search and no rescue this time).

Does he do his own graphics modeling, too…?

That’d make him somewhat of a unicorn!

Unfortunately the 225 is now much worse than when it came out. It's unflyable. They removed the HPG auto flight stuff I guess in preparation for ini to take it over and it's all messed up.

Since iniBuilds took control of it the 225 is even worse than before, and I am almost sure they won't do anything about it.

UGH!!! Why in the world would they do THAT?!? It was tolerable before, and a cool helo if you could look past the Upper Mode AP problems…

Ok thought I was tripping!

For me....the old AirlandFS injection implementation felt better than the later native addon helo physics in MSFS.

Some bad experiences with CowanSim products pretty much turned me off from wanting to try another helo product unfortunately.

Oh yeah, the AirlandFS R44 was a dream to fly... Good times!

Yep. As always, some fly better than others.

The Cabri G2 is Asobos reference model/test mule, so it’s always in a fairly good state. Nice little helo, just a bit sedate for my tastes 😎

Cowan had built a good reputation for himself in X-Plane, but he’s squandered it since.

A. He’s utterly abandoned his extensive XP portfolio and XP has left them behind. Not very enjoyable any longer.

B. His conversions for MSFS were good when released, but again, the sims capabilities and the 3PDs like Taogs have left them behind again.

Took him a long time to update them, and again, they’re “okay” now.

But definitely wait for one of his several sales where they all go on sale for like $10 ea. at that point, they’re a good deal for casual helo flying

C. His S-76 launch was sub par, and (was) arguably one of his worst products.

Even worse, it took quite awhile before most of the bugs were worked out.

I eventually picked it up on a deep discount. But there are still significant, distracting engine and system anomalies that are plainly evident during every flight.

Oh, and it’s most definitely an MSFS 2020 addon. Works in 2024, but it’s definitely behind the power curve

I never use it any longer.

It’s a shame because the addon is overall pretty good and the IRL helo is super cool.

Hopefully, he’s diligently (if slowly) working on the 2024 conversion and fixing the other bugs.

But in general, I’m pretty much done with him unless he shapes up.

Which rotary addons do you recommend now besides Taog?

It doesn't have to be Dodosim level of physics depth, but something that just feels more solid and not a floppy, sedate extremely bland copy paste of CowanSim stuff.

100 percent the Taog’s OH-6/H500. 👍

The Stranger Things Huey (also by Taog’s) is good, too. Not as polished as the payware from v2020, but for a free helo? Very nice 👍

But in all honesty, the OH-6 is one of the VERY few helos where I’ve both paid full price AND been completely satisfied. (The others aren’t in MSFS)

You do know that the Taog Huey from 2020, and all the rest of Taog's helos are fully compatible with 2024, right? I assume you know, but since you mention the Stanger Things Huey, I wanted to bring it up. The 2024 compatible Taog Huey is better than the Stranger Things one. Granted, for a free addon it is decent, but if you already have the 2020 version than why not fly it in 2024 instead.

@blueshark747 Besides any of the Taog heli's, based on your comments above, I would easily recommend the MilTech Ch-47 Chinook, the MH-60 Seahawk and also the Bo-105, which is the newest one of the three. All very different helo's, and not quite to Taog quality, but probably next best thing in 2024.
