MSFS2024 warning 'resource usage exceed GPU memory'.

Just because it says that it is a VRAM issue doesn't mean that it is.

As others have touched on, and reflecting on the quote above, the "Warning - resource usage" message is not a reliable indicator of actual VRAM usage or saturation. It's something that MSFS seems to produce in 'blips'. It can pop up mysteriously on my system for a few seconds, then not come back again - even if I move to more detailed areas within a given detailed scenery.

In other words, as others have said, it's not worth reading into it that this means you have actual VRAM limitations.

Just use the tool that was linked above that removes this message (in most - not all) cases where it would appear.

when I get is message the sim slows down and sputters. What good does hiding the message do?

Sorry for the red, the text block is black and I cant see eh text. Why is it black? Is it only me?

My experience with this message: I got this message all the time and was accompanied with slow-downs and stuttering.

What I did was change my Texture Resolution setting from Ultra to Medium. That fixed it and the sim looks only slightly different. See, I had a 32Gb card (RTX3090) but it burnt up. The replacement card had half that amount of RAM and I never thought about changing the texture resolution. I know, knuckle-headed.

Anyway, check your Texture Resolution setting.

Are you testing with the same aircraft in both sims? I managed to use up all 24GB of VRAM on a 4090 in MSFS2024 with the high res version of the FBW A380 a while back at the premium deluxe version of KSFO with my usual day to day settings. Turned the sim into a slideshow and installing the smaller sized textures fixed it.

8 GB? Blimey, I'm getting that warning occasionally with my 16 GB RTX 5080. It's mainly with addons like Samscenes New York v2 but cropped up in a few other spots. I've turned down my texture resolution from ultra to high and my TLOD and OLED down a bit too which seems to have helped though. Off screen terrain pre-caching is a bit of an issue for me though because I find that panning with TrackIR needs to have it set to Ultra to avoid panning stutters.

Using DLAA with 2x framegen and whilst I can use DLSS or a bit more framegen, I don't like the visuals as much with those settings.

youll also loose a ton of vram on an old fs2020 DDS type scenerys that have not been compresssed. Or one of the many ms2020 "city scapes" on flightsim.to.

then add a 8K livery and not a 4K one (go ask on the hues server for a 4k repaint and see what happens) and then add some fsltl or aig ai traffic again at 8k or 4k (and not compressed to 2k) and youll see that box come up.

remember big unoptimised 8k eye candy textures sells, the kids love it/

They'd rather have a stuttering sim with loads of eye candy for screenshots and twitch follwers than an optimised fuild sim compressed down.

Unless you have a card with 24 or 36 gigs of ram

so the kids can still take screenshots for insta and discord, and the Devs can take screenshots for promos.

The late NickN said something similar about FSX and ultra-detailed textures over 12 years ago. Too bad there isn't yet any reliable KTX2 downscaling utility. The only one I've seen leaves all my textures overexposed and faded out, as if the planes had been parked at Victorville for over 10 years.

So you saying you didn't tried HIGH first ?

You go straight from max to med ?

Reckless, I know.

I will try the High setting and see what happens.

agreed.

2 good examples of unoptimised textures.

KATL - Orbx on release, he compressed them after people moaning

YBBN - Orbx - 20+ mb texture files.

I went from Medium to High on Texture Resolution.

Small increase in GPU memory usage. Seemingly a moderate increase in system RAM usage. And, a small decrease in average FPS. All and all, not a big difference; High resolution it is then.
