Money grab? Or sensible?

With the UKs very narrow roads and many houses without off street parking, cars not parking partly on pavements could make some roads impassable for large vehicles and emergency vehicles.

Back when I was still alive I lived in an old house across the street from a park. The street was quite narrow and when there were activities in the park people would park on both sides of the street. That made the street so narrow that emergency vehicles like fire trucks unable to pass through.

I went to several city council meetings to complain about it, but they did nothing. It's still a hazard but I don't live there anymore.

The "parking on pavements" bit is going to cause all sorts of problems. There are so many residential town and city streets that are far too narrow for people to park their cars without blocking the street. It just is not possible. I can see a lot of very angry responses to that one.

Most of the on-street parking in my area has been removed to make way for new cycle tracks. The blocks of flats I live next to have no access to any parking, so they all park on the pavement outside. Obviously, this does pose a hazard for those using it, but unfortunately, they don't really have a choice as there really isn't anywhere else for them to park. Parking around residential areas in the UK is often at a premium.

I'm fortunate enough to have a rather large driveway with a large entrance and a dropped curb, which does often get used as a place for people to unload, drop off, and sometimes even as a makeshift bus stop. A few times recently, access to my driveway has been totally blocked. So the new law regarding parking on dropped curbs is something I welcome.

Sounds like the powers that be are making it just that much harder to own a car.

Keep tacking on more fees, higher gasoline taxes, higher insurance costs, restrictions on what kind of vehicles the little people can buy, etc. etc., and the goal of only the top 5% owning a vehicle will be achieved.

you did the right thing. I dont know why anyone under 30 would want to live in this country.

When you are spending 916 million a DAY on welfare you going to need to raise some cash

and not to mention when the UK population set to grow by five million within 10 years, guess what theres going top be more cars around and issues parking them. common sense.

I live in a somewhat affluent university town (the students dont pay council tax) where the parking is horrfic, at certain times of the year (when the students are here) its impossible to park your car anywhere after 6pm. If ive just finished the late shift at LHR and then driven home its not been uncommon to have to drive around for 15 minutes just to find a space anywhere parking up on the pavement and then walking 10 mins home. There will no spaces in my road.

We have people parking up on curbs on double yellows and all sorts. They brought in pakring permits years ago which hasnt done anything, due to it being an affluent town people just park and pay the fine, rather than get a parking permit linked to your address.

Theyve even mooted the idea of a permit prices based on the type and size of car you have, makes no odds again its an affluent town full of students or execs who commute to London, the people with large cars dont pay for the permits anyways, they take the hit of a fine when the council sends the enforment officers around once a week or so.

Being a lib dem strong hold constituency they are obesssed to death with cycle lanes and clean air. Instead of dealing with parking issues.

To anymore with a bit of common sense its clear thats theres simply too many people and too many cars and not enough space... oh and I pay 120 pounds a year for my parking permit...
