I noticed that the Got Friends Taylorcraft has released on the 2024 Marketplace today. Anyone picked it up yet and if so, how is it?

I'm not planning to buy it because GF recently went "Marketplace only", and I generally will not buy aircraft from the MP, due to the encrypted files and the inability to tweak CFG files.

But, there are a number of times I've said I'm not buying and addon aircraft and then miraculously, I buy it mere hours later! 😄

PS... I'm looking for views from members here. Please don't post a link to an AvAngel video as a response to this. 🙂

I have been following this aircraft development for a few weeks now and am very interested. I plan on getting it, maybe later today if I get around to it. If I do get it soon, and get some time to fly it, I will post my thoughts here.

I will still purchase this, although I am not quite sure why this is listed in the marketplace for £23.49 when it's listed as £19.00 on Got Friends official site (marketplace exclusive).

Probably Mr Burnham’s 20% cut plus a little USD to GBP commission.

The aircraft looks incredible but I think I'll be skipping it because of how slow it is hehe. Something else arrived my inbox this morning, and I've been working on some paints for it as well :)

Does it perhaps have a special...legacy...?

I'll get it first thing tomorrow. It's not really my type of aircraft but, there are some developers you buy from regardless and even if you know you won't use it that much, you know it will be enjoyable when you do.

Ok, I bought it and then started the most insane purchase experience in the Marketplace!

I'll bulletpoint this. The scenario suits the format well 🙂

• I bought the GF Taylorcraft from the MSFS 2024 Marketplace. (Note: I have not had 2020 installed for 18 months).

• I downloaded the manual from the GF website and read it. It stated that the 2024 version was native and included full interactive walkaround features.

• I loaded the plane in 2024 and immediately noticed that nothing on the walkaround was clickable. Hmmm, I thought, this seems like the 2020 version.

• I exited the flight and went to My Library. Yep, the 2020 version .... but no 2024 version listed in my library.

• Restarted MSFS2024 ........ went into my library; same thing. Only the 2020 version available.

• Restarted MSFS2024 ........ I got an immediate notification to say that a new item was available for free for me to download from the Store page. I went to the store page, and there was the 2024 version (that I'd bought 20 mins ago by this point), with the button saying "GET FOR FREE" (It's not free mate, I paid a whopping £23 for it 25 mins ago!

• Pressed the "GET FOR FREE button" and it did the processing malarky again.

• Went into my Library, no 2024 version listed.

• Restarted 2024, went into My Library, 2024 version now listed with "NOT AVAILABLE" in red text.

• Restarted 2024, went into My Library and the 2024 version was listed and marked as "Streaming".

The end.

No idea if I was just unlucky, with a MP glitch or if this is how it works for all buyers, but boy that was not fun!

@JYW Hmmm, that sounds very frustrating, and I usually don't have a problem with MP purchases. That said, it is not my preferred way to purchase addons for MSFS but I will use it when it is the only option. I was ready to go ahead and get this, but your experience is giving me pause.

Well, it’s got a free trial available so everyone can make their own decision.

However from my perspective, a cracking little aircraft. This will instantly replace my CAS Piper Cub for that kind of flying , nothing wrong with that add on at all it’s just personally I don’t like Piper cubs.

Just had a quick circuit and play around out of Netherthorpe ,not much time as I have flights scheduled in the Hawk this evening , and once it goes dark, a low level sortie Dambusters run the IFE Typhoon using night vision, Wow 😳

Brilliant instruments, brilliant flight modelling. It’ll spin properly, not a -pseudo spin spiral dive, a proper spin with airspeed locked at 40 mph and not increasing. I tried a dead stick landing which I almost got away with but stalled into a ( burning blue design ) tree and ended up upside down with doors and panels open flapping in the wind!

Beautiful engine sounds too.

I’ll go back and hit the purchase button once my trial expires tomorrow.

I actually had the same and on GotFriends discord they explained what happened. MS Team released the 2020 version first. 2024 version was released delayed later.

I bought it directly with the 2020 version but even did not notice. Same experience with clickspots. Then I had to restart my sim cause wanted to activate some scenery, sim started and telling me free update avail and I got the 2024 update version then. So all fine at least on my end now.

Just for reference, I signed for the free trial only about 30 mins ago and got the 2024 version no problem.

Waggle the aileron and the whole aircraft rocks, it’s very good !

I couldn’t resist another quick flight…..absolutely gorgeous, an instant classic in my book, even better than I was hoping it would be.
