  1. What I even find more peculiar is usually the other flight sim or even in this case operating system is usually brought up first by a sole user of xplane/Mac/Linux. Then when those who are users of all simulators/ operating systems take exception with what is usually stated as a fact e.g. "Windows/FSX constantly crashes" or the usual mantras these same people get uncomfortable. Very strange indeed.
  2. Interesting-I bought my first Mac-an I Mac last Xmas. First thing I tried was my Mac compatable flights sims and I found they ran significantly slower than on my 4 year old pc. I also had constant crashes with the operating system-mostly freezes- but was determined because I needed to publish something on iBooks-who's interface also constantly crashed leading me to have to repeatedly have contact Apple support. Finally got the job done after a frustrating 3 months and haven't had the machine on since. Gives me the thought to go turn it on today-let it update its OS and see if things have improved. I do love my iPhone/iPads but interestingly Wingx my rw flight software advises strongly not moving to OS7 due to crashing in the OS-have already experienced a couple myself.....
  3. Well to take the name of the thread for now it is really the end of it for me-I hope this not to be a permanent condition. Re: the torque bug-largely though not admitted seems to be mostly worked out after 10.20-enough that the problems which would cause negative learning are mostly gone-at least in some aircraft-especially the ones I simulate. A real positive. The scenery which despite me downloading everything for my area of the world -is still deficient. the lack of a rw simulated current gps in 64 bit ( 32 bit crashes almost instantly and the planes I want to train in are now only 64 bit-a bummer ) and clouds which for now lose realism make now a great game but not a simulator-and I don't play games-ask my wife about candy crush-lol. The cloud add in above looks like it will take care of another problem for me-I eagerly look forward to it and anything else that will make this a useful sim for me. I haven't fired up any sim in 3 months- Sad after 33 years of flight simming. I do hope improvements will appear in this sim that will draw me back...but a game I am not gonna do.
  4. This looks incredible-40,000 tall t storms something I have been waiting for a while. Really exciting work!
  5. Personally I am not interested in just "realistic systems" but realistic simulation of the planes and their systems I fly presently. The kln 90b would be equiv to a simulation of the foster loran I used in the 1990's-somewhat interesting but not useful for current training. I never even saw a 90b..Wasn't the year 1997 or so-my foster was still alive then too..So was my pentium 1 computer. Although I flew 8 years ifr with a kln 94 I also flew extensively right seat with many that used the garmin 430. I always knew more about its operation than the pilots i flew with thanks to the great reality xp version of it. This was most useful on several occasions when the left seat pilot accidentally pushed something that made everything go haywire-usually right in the middle of a difficult approach. Get past pushing direct to and most pilots had no idea-it is terribly hard to learn a complex device like this while flying and if one is a weekend flyer-real hard to retain. I was aways frustrated though that no sim version of the kln94 ever made it to the sim world due to a lawsuit-because I was less proficient in operating it than a Garmin 430 which I didn't own due to lack of sim software that coud be practiced at home. There was at the time a sim version of the 90b but not really useful. I did use the xplane software for the diamond star g1000 and that was useful- though I did not have multi monitors and thus preferred the several fairly accurate g1000 simulations on FSX. Jcomm-when I got into a Baron in the early 2000's I never flew anything but gps from that point on (and 99% of the time direct). When burning 28 gallons/hr.-direct saves a lot-but atc also pretty much expects it in the US when you file /g Though I would twiddle vor dials for fun ( and the adf was inop)-never ever used them- ever..... I've always used a flight sim ( and I owned pretty much all of them) to practice whatever I was needing practice with rw. After 25 years the only thing that brought me fear was going into the busy, often rude, auctioneer New York NE. Airspace and twiddling a gps. Once I remember going into Conneticut where just after passing Allentown, PA every 30 seconds I would get a call-new clearance -advise ready to copy. Luckily I had a co pilot because after copying te clearance it took about 2.5 minutes to get it in the box-after which atc would state-new amended clearance-ready to copy-and the whole process started again(with controllers yelling at someone else that they didn't have it right). The most amazing one for me was after getting a full route clearance in Nashua, NH which took about 4 minutes to enter while those twin engines are eating greedily, after airborne the controller called me and said amended clearance-but it is so long I don't have time to give it to you-stand by.....he never had time so just kept sending me to a waypoint till I got to Allentown, PA and got the magic proceed direct. Twiddling that gps has to be instinctive. So in any case-most important thing for me on a sim is maintaining control of a simulated complex aircraft I fly while working a rw gps-recently a garmin 430 or g1000. It is usually much harder on the computer-thus if you can do it here-rw is a cinch. I am sure many pilots/ flight schools are looking for the same in a sim.
  6. Unfortunately the 90b is terribly terribly ancient-never came across one even in rental airplanes 12 years ago. The kln94 that I flew with for 7 years also/was/is ancient though it did the trick. The 430/530s while found widely found and flew a lot with are now also now ancient. For current pilots that want rw training purposes in a sim something current and rw is needed....that is if we are going past game to useful for rw simulator.
  7. I sure hope you are correct about this-a lack of a current rw simulated gps is kinda a deal breaker for me for the sim.
  8. I flew a Bonanza for 11 years and I never touched the throttle to land it except for a go around-why would you need to do that?I also was based at a runway while 2500' length had only 1739' usable due to obstructions on either end so using half a runway to put her down ( you didn't mention how long) sounds questionable-I certainly could not have afforded to do that. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/aero/Flushing_385350_7.pdf You should feel a " cushion of air underneath" -it is called ground effect-suggest reading about this. I do agree the landing phase with a good aircraft like Carenado in xplane "feels" better ( including the cushion of air!)-other phases of flight not so much...and agree with Larry-in calm weather rails is the right feel and momentum is a necessary feature which needs to be modeled-in fact use of momentum is what allowed me to get into such a tight field as 3da.
  9. Het Mitch-left Michigan for good for California. Xplane's version is substandard. Used to have Megascenery SC -how is this product improved. Look forward to your thoughts and Picts-thanks for your thoughts!
  10. No-no switch tanks every hour-no trim needed-many planes have both option which means never a factor. Basic pilot technique taught to even novices. Some even get anal and switch every 1/2hour-heavy wing= you a bad pilot.
  11. All a matter of perspective. Xplane 10 would be collecting dust once again on my shelf except by the grace of those that dared to provide input. Harassment is a very good way of describing how some view constructive critics.
  12. In my view there are just as many xplaners that bring up FSX as there are fsx'ers and many that jump on anyone that might point out a problem about xplane without ever mentioning another sim. What does the word " bickering" suggest for those that took much time and trouble to document the torque problem in the hopes it might be noticed and taken care of? I agree, the snowballing is never welcome but on the other hand not noticing , comparing , examining and sometimes even borowing from the competition -all of it-not just FSX, is a business practice that is usually deadly rw to those who do not do so. Existing in a vacuum is never a good thing.
  13. re:low and slow :lol I started on a c150 that went 95 knts. Moving to a Bonanza doing 150-160 kts. does not feel slow-in fact most have a huge amount of trouble slowing them down at first. Go to a Baron and likewise186 kts seems real fast. Now low and slow-driving an hour to the airport two hours early, going thru security, being brutilized by security, waiting at the gate an hour, being delayed, then getting to your destination and waiting 30 minutes for your luggage.... I found flying "low and slow" I could always beat the airlines on any trip under about 12-1500 nautical miles....10 minutes to the airport, 10 minutes to load the plane-preflight-and you are off. Land and they drive the rental car up to the plane and put it to bed for you. Just saying-flying a Bonanza isn't so slow though perhaps relatively low! Slow, and a grimy cattle experience, and not a fun experience-the way I view airline flights now!
  14. "With the question of Beta-ness all but settled, I return you to your regularly scheduled bickering about flight models and plausible world autogen. Respectfully Dr V" Respectfully-the fm has changed greatly since 10.20 and the torque problem that in your words were "bickered about" in this forum seem to have been largely helpful into making this sim hugely better-at least in this department. I would view this as a extremely positive thing and would think Xplaner's, especially those with no rw experience, would be excited with these improvements that increase reality, and thankful that some took the trouble to provide valuable input for this goal to help give input into making xplane into the ultimate sim. I find the chastising and dismisal of such input hugely damaging for flight simming on any platform-that is is if one really desires a platform to improve. Really baffling.... Yes, plausible world is next for me, as though Europe looks very well done, my part of the world does not. I don't view it as bickering, as much as valuable input to make this sim much better-perhaps taking this sim at some point to where there will really be no need for debate as to which sim is the best platform. If it is taboo to talk about how a sim can improve-why have a forum? The pr. people can do a plentiful job of only praising a product-let the paid pros do that.
  15. Might have to do with where you are in the world ...so far no joy in mine.
  16. Strange-I haven't had the roll issue since 10.20. Plane will trim and fly straight and level now for quite a while..
  17. My bad-I meant santorini-just went up that windy donkey trail last year-congrats on winning!
  18. Just announced on facebook-don't see them yet on their site yet though...
  19. I am finding many freeware airports that are good enough so I am not really interested in airports. What I would wish Aerosoft would do is it's Cities series for xplane and help it out where it is hugely needy.
