  1. SU10 has been a beauty so far! The new Fenix update is also fantastic! I'm getting much better performance compared to SU9 (TAA at 90%, switching to DLSS gave me even better FPS but Fenix was showing weird animations on the PFD altitude label). I'm running a 9900k at 4.6, 2080tTi at 4k
  2. I'm also curious at why Fenix would not go ahead and implement it (I haven't seen such info from them, just basing my post on the comments above). I also think a gradual implementation is better than nothing at all. Pan and tilt is definitely better than having to fly an airliner around nasty weather with zero situational awareness. I hope this is something that gets implemented. It's bad already having no historic weather, no wx radar would definitely be terrible for realistic airliner ops. Let's wait and see.
  3. Great initiative, thanks! What ever happened to JustFlight's A300? Wasn't it coming to MSFS?
  4. That's unfortunate. I had high hopes in this regard for SU10. I guess there's always SU11 in November 😓
  5. All is good in Mexico City. Unfortunately, Michoacan is a different story. Thanks for asking, Luis. Saludos!
  6. I am curious about your answer. Does it mean it's just a basic weather depiction and that there isn't a way to implement a "proper" wx radar? Here's hoping it's better than what we had in P3D.
  7. It's actually September 19th the day we're afraid of... there's been three devastating earthquakes on the same day. The last two (2017 and today) just minutes after going through a city-wide earthquake drill in Mexico City. Both ironic and spooky at the same time.
  8. Just to add to my last message... today we had a 6.6 quake here in Mexico City. For the third time, there was an actual earthquake following the city-wide drill I mentioned above. All on the same day: September 19. Friday the 13th, hold my beer!
  9. These images are too familiar. I live in Mexico City and lived through the 8.2 quakes of 2017. Not something you want to experience, believe me. Back then, I lived in a 5th-floor duplex apartment, and my best escape route was to go to the rooftop using the spiral stairs inside the apartment. That day, my son (then 8) skipped school, and we were both at home when the quake started. The two of us ran to the stairs to escape and we just couldn't climb due to the violent shaking. We were literally stuck in the staircase and had to wait a bit for the wave to subside to get to the rooftop. Once there, another wave shook the building, and I remember embracing my son just waiting for the building to collapse. It was that bad. That day I learned the difference between oscillating and trepidatory waves. Luckily, we only suffered minor damages and were just scared sh...less. Others close to our place weren't that lucky. Living in Mexico City comes with such risks tho', but it's not something you get accustomed to (unless you live in the states of Oaxaca or Guerrero!) .. you just accept the possibility and hope for the best. On the other hand, many of these devastating quakes in Mexico City have happened during September, so many of us are usually wary of the month (regardless of it being independence day!). Today, for example, there's a city-wide earthquake drill, and just the thought of listening to the early-warning alert that comes out from the speakers (located in almost every street in the city) is as scary as a quake per se.
  10. This is sad indeed, I've been an EVGA loyalist myself since forever. What is the best brand when it comes to NVIDIA GPUs now that EVGA is gone? I was looking forward to upgrading my 2080Ti next year with the 4000 series. Thanks!
  11. Fantastic shots! Thanks for sharing! Which source for imagery and mesh are you using for Ortho4XP?
  12. Hi Murmur, don't quote me on this but I think XP12 also downloads the previous cycle to do what you mention.
  13. Yes, if the metar reports precipitation. You'll also get snowy or icy runway conditions. If the temperature warms up or the metar changes, the snow will melt and form puddles (dinamically). It's something you need to see to really graps, it's really cool but hard to describe. You can download the demo and test it before buying.
  14. Very nice shots Captain, I'm sure Lord Vader is most pleased!
  15. Last year I began to program a new plugin to support the XP11 744 with all the light options working etc... with 12 now out, I'll have to wait if there are changes in the SDK... so many things to do and so little time!
  16. José, nice to see you aboard the XP12 ship my friend. Looking forward to your review after flying the glider! Take care!
  17. They do look good. The third shot is my favorite.
  18. I think moderators should shut the last few threads in this section down as this has become a troll feast. Also, I hope the warnings are being sent out symmetrically @Bob Scott. Thanks.
  19. MS Flight was targeted to gamers and failed because it underdelivered to core simmers. What changed, then? The difference is that Asobo and Microsoft found a balanced formula. They knew that they needed the hard-core market aboard and that gamers, which I agree with you, eventually a small percentage become hard-core simmers and spend on hardware and add-ons. And that's GREAT, as an example: I gifted MSFS to my nephew, and a few months later I saw he got hooked and bought him a bunch of student-pilot books and some charts, now he's enrolled in the AF JROTC program. If anything, MSFS isn't creating a new generation of flightsimmers, but a new generation of aviation enthusiasts! And as they evolve, so will their interest to explore alternatives such as X-Plane and then decide for themselves what is more compatible with their interests in aviation as the big field it is. No one benefits from gatekeeping nor from having a single flight simulator.
  20. Yet after all these years, here they are. I've been an X-Plane user since version 5. And by disqualifying Laminar as incapable by being "three men in a shed" ... I reckon you haven't heard about Hardy Heinlin and Aerowinx?.
  21. I agree that gamers are a welcome stream of life to our hobby, but calling them backbone is a bit far-fetched. There wouldn't be a flightsim hobby if it wasn't for the hard-core simmer. I'm sure companies such as A2A, FSLabs and PMDG could give you stronger arguments than me... not so Aerosoft, for example.
  22. I agree with your statements and as a (mostly) tubeliner simmer myself I have little doubt in the capabilities of Asobo to turn MSFS into a valid P3D alternative sometime down the road. However, in this case (regarding your quote above), it's also important to mention that Laminar Research isn't standing idly. X-Plane 11.00 is very different to X-Plane 11.55. So... we can expect the same level of commitment from LR during the lifecycle of XP12. There's one thing I personally like about Laminar Research and the team behind Austin: they are passionate about their product and you know they will do what it takes to make it better. I'm not saying Asobo isn't, I admit they have improved - a lot - lately, but in the end, they are a game development studio (a business!) and MSFS is one of their customers. They will always be attached to the corporate priorities and decisions that their partners at Microsoft define.
  23. @XST Interesting post. I share your views regarding the commercial third-party developers, and since I also use MSFS (and have spent a good sum of money on add-ons), we all benefit in the end from the multiple options we can get as a niche market. I don't have your information nor access to sources directly involved in the third-party world of developers, but it makes sense from a business point of view to jump into the MSFS market not only because it's bigger but also because it is full of opportunities by being a fresh-start ecosystem. However, this won't stay like that forever. You can only have so many 737s and Airbuses, or versions of Frankfurt, SFO, or JFK available for purchase. It's crowded already and it's going to get worse (and this is something that Umberto from FSDT mentioned many months ago). Eventually, just like in XP, FSX and P3D, the market will balance itself, and the good developers will prevail, and the newcomers who didn't flourish will either cease to exist or just enjoy whatever breadcrumbs they manage to land in their bank accounts. Nothing new under the sun, if you ask me. The same applies to X-Plane. If many of these add-on authors you mentioned leave, they will eventually return once X-Plane 12 matures or just open what was their space in the ecosystem for new developers to benefit. MSFS market is in a gold-rush state right now, and that's great btw... I'm not on a mission (unlike others around here) to disqualify MSFS! I still wish most developers would target my three platforms (P3D, MSFS and X-Plane). Having said that, if you are a serious and established commercial developer, you definitely have to keep an eye on all platforms, that's why the best add-on developers keep releasing products, albeit at a slower pace, for drying markets such as P3D and to some extent even X-Plane. I, for one, would hate to be burned again by Microsoft if they decide to leave the flight sim world. If you are a serious business in this field, the risk of putting all eggs in the same basket is not something that can be overlooked. There is already a precedent. We as consumers should just enjoy the current state of things. We have a great simulator for low-and-slow VFR which is also beginning to see airliners such as PMDG's 737 and Fenix A320, we have a great mature and stable simulator for flying heavies that haven't made their way (yet) to MSFS, and we have a new-born iteration of X-Plane that will always have a place in the market for people who don't use Windows, for helicopter fans, for experimental projects and for engineering users. Which, btw will also be great for VFR and airline flying once it evolves (no one can deny XP11 is perfectly capable for users in these two categories!). As I've said many other times in this thread: time will tell.
  24. An extremist view... considering XP12 has been published in early state for hours. Time will tell, I guess. Fortunately, there are options out there; I would hate to have these poor souls forced to use XP12 if there weren't! If anything, after the dust settles and the trolls get tired of beating the "dead horse" called XP12, we should be able to breathe fresher air in this and other flightsim forums, and those of us who enjoy it can return to have constructive conversations again. One can only hope.
  25. I don't know how long you've been as an X-Plane user, but I wouldn't worry too much. In X-Plane 10 you barely had any commercial developers. In the beginnings of X-Plane 11 there were scarse options as well. The best started to come 3 years ago or so, when X-Plane 11 was at versions 11.20-11.30. X-Plane 12 will mature and grow, and if some developers don't return, new ones will come. It's not the end of the world. I've been an X-Plane user since version 5. This isn't a sprint, it's a marathon.
