FSX Steam Released! (80% off sale?)
When installing in steam you can opt to install on a different drive.. and it will install in a directory, in the root of the drive, called steamlibrary (IIRC). What I'm wondering is though, for back-up purposes, if the original fully patched fsx.exe will work with the steam version. If it does, that opens different opportunities possibly fixing addon installs. And if you can rename steam's fsx.exe (is it called fsx-se.exe in steam?? thought I read that somewhere? I do have the steam version bought but not downloaded it yet..). Because steam doesn't seem to matter it's install location, as is obvious with installing it in steamlibrary. I have more steam games that, installed in steam, but moved out of the steam directory as it doesn't matter about it's location. Of course, this assumes too, that the steam version uses the exact same directory structure as the original fsx (very important!!), but I doubt it's different. What I'm thinking of is this: Install fsx in steam here belongs another line about about fsx in it's new copied location Remove the FSX install from steam (from within steam, which will also remove fsx registery settings) Use the Flight1 registry fix tool to set the new registry settings of the new FSX location You might have to rename the fsx-se.exe file (to fsx.exe, make sure you backup the original file in a secure location first!) (DISCLAIMER: renaming is NOT tampering with files!), or use (copy) the (fully updated!!) original fsx.exe (so that only works if you have the original fsx and addons and fully patched fsx.exe backed-up) uhmm.. profit?? If it doesn't work, just make sure you have the original steam fsx-se.exe (or whatever it's called, can't check as I haven't installed steam fsx yet) being put back in directory, move it back to the location in steam you got it from, tell steam you want to install fsx-- it will than validate the steam fsx install (because it will see the files back in place), which takes few minutes on my machine, it correct the registry settings.. and you have your install of steam back. Disclaimer: use at your own risk if you want to try but in theory it might work. I have a 150 Gig install size of fsx on SSD so, not sure if I am going to try myself but, who knows... If it works I have found a great, maybe even improved version of FSX (and I assume some things (dll's?) are updated) as programs like FSUIPC seems to have to be updated to work with this version. So I might have bought myself an improved (backup) installation FSX program for only 5 bucks.. I'm just thinking out loud so please don't mind me.. but maybe this could fix all addon problems... might be worth a try.. Gert edit: a line is being deleted while I post this and I can't correct it no matter what I try... It's about fsx in it's new copied location.. hope the new line stays..

Flight Planning Tool
While I have, and use, both programs you mention-- definitely have a look at Aivlasoft's Electronic Flight Bag too, as it's fantastic!

eyefinity versus tripple to go
Hi,It's great for you that eyefinity worked perfectly and flawlessly. For many though it didn't-- and doesn't. ATI admitted the problem first time when recently releasing their 10.2 driver-- read their release notes. I've had several ATI cards in the past and never had any problem. Unfortunately the new ATI cards do have their fair share of problems and it only takes a minute to find out how recent these problems are and what is done to solve it. My reply was just that-- a friendly advisory to make sure to investigate the different brands and possibilities before buying on impulse. Hopefully ATI is able to iron out, soonest, the problems that a fair share of users is still having.. both in single screen and eyefinity.I too am back at Nvidia in SLI after a very bad experience with Sapphire (ATI)-- and my system is as stable as can be with the SLI. I can't wait for Nvidia to release their driver that will enable surround gaming, hopefully at the end at the month-- and get some enjoyment back from all the trouble and money I had to invest to get my expensive multiscreen setup working as initally intended. And for the brief moments that I had the pleasure to experience eyefinity to it's fullest, because it's the most beautiful thing and experience I've had in 30+ years of gaming-- I'm sure it's not going to be dissappointing! Be it Eyefinity, Surround, TH2G or whatever they all (going to) call it-- this is the future of gaming, I have no doubt this is how gaming (and FSX) was meant to be!Cheers!StormChaser

eyefinity versus tripple to go
Hi,Like the ones before me said, it's possible to move within the virtual cockpit (without moving the terrain outside) in any screen setup-- be it in 3 screens (examp: like on a 5870x1200 resolution setup) or 1 screen ( examp: 1920x1200). But I'd like to warn you before you make a desicion in buying either an ATI card for eyefinity, or the Samsung screens. There's a whole lot of problems involved in recent ATI cards and their drivers (in both single and multi screen setups). I would like to friendly advise you to do a very good (!) research around the net on widescreen forums and such-- about ATI cards, the crashes with ATI cards related to the drivers (grey screens, lockups etc), and the problems involved getting eyefinity (stable) to work (and the tech needed for eyefinity-- like displayport adapters or monitors that have build-in displayports-- because you need at least (!) 1 displayport monitor or displayport adapter/converter, per 3 screens eyefinity! You might want to wait for Nvidia to release their next drivers for surround gaming (same as eyefinity), without needing special adapters or special monitors with displayport ports (and all their problems involved). Their driver to enable this is set to be released the end of the month.StormChaserDisclaimer: I have nothing to do with NVidia, and am in no way related to them.

IRIS F-14 Kneel
Hi,Works fine here, just tested. For the launch bar, hit Shift-U (see page 46 of manual for more additional info). The bar connects with me and the aircraft lowers into it's kneel (launch) position. For the auto wing sweep switch use Shift E and press 3 right after. You'll see the switch move.Hope this helps.Gert

Camera definitions creation utility?
I bought DB Walk And Follow as soon as it was released for FSX, thinking it would work the same as it did in FS9.. I was pretty wrong about that, half of the FS9 features aren't available. It was money well spend in FS9, but wasted in FSX. Quite a shame for such expensive tool.I too hope that Marniftarr will be able to release that awesome camera util soonest. It looks awesome on the vids he posted and I gladly put down money for such!

Your opinions on Flight Operations Center Please
Hi,FS Commander is a great program, that I agree with. I always have it on for flight following, checking AI and many more (on a networked pc). For flight planning though, IMHO nothing (that I know of) beats FSBuild. But than, I can't comment on flight operations centre as i don't have it nor have I ever used it.

FSX and Windows 7?
I don't understand anyway why people insist on putting multiple system boots on the same drive :( -- with harddisks being so cheap these days. Just plug in a new HD, install your desired OS, boot the desired system via bios (for example EVGA MB) or popup-menu (ala ASUS MB) and there, never any conflicts or problems... Gert

Cannot purchase ASA
StormChaser replied to ginopatrassi's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumHi,I've had the exact(!) same problem. I tried the next day, and then it would suddenly accept my order. So I would suggest to re-try again, too.Good luck!Gert

3rd Monitor, Will It Impact Fps?
Hi,Why don't you just install FSCommander on both your main FSX AND your networked PC? I have it installed like that, and I can't imagine any (legal) issues with this, as FSCommander supports it running in a network via WifeFS. This is the easiest because, every time you install new airports and update nav files, you have to re-run and rebuild your databases-- now just map your networked drive to where FSC is installed, and copy from your FSX PC-- to your networked PC. And you'll be updated. That way you can build your flightplan on your main FSX PC too, then copy it to your networked PC (if you want the flightplan shown in FSC)-- and after that run FSC on your networked PC. I'm not familiar with FSC network-export problems as I use FSBuild (again too on the networked PC via WideFS, works like a dream and installs flightplans in one go, from exporting to FSC, PMDG, LvlD, FSX etc).Gert

3rd Monitor, Will It Impact Fps?
Hi,That's why I use Widescreen Monitors. 2 24" WS is capable of a as wide view as a triplehead2go which has a max res of 3840 x 1024 (and with 3 monitors).I do what the triplehead2go does, with 2 WS monitors, and without spending several 100 dollars.Cheers!

3rd Monitor, Will It Impact Fps?
ran out of space to type lol..Just want to add, that the monitors I currently use for my main FSX view are both widescreens, so it's like some super widescreen view now. Also with the WideViewAspect=True in the FSX.cfg, you get a amazing true to life wideview of the (in many planes) complete front cockpit view.. and than some more., without having to zoom out and all very clear and readable. Be warned, there's no turning back after you try this. :( Cheers!

3rd Monitor, Will It Impact Fps?
To the OP.. adding an extra card and monitor to your current computer will have effect on your overall fsx performance yes. It's an extra feed, and fsx is cpu bound, it would have been different if it was gpu bound. How much effect it will have, depends on how powerful your proccesor is, how much processes you have running etc. Trying is knowing i guess.. don't you know someone who can borrow you their card for a moment to try before making expenses?I'm running it on 3 Monitors, but it's devided on 2 pc's. On my main machine, I run a 24 inch and a 22 inch monitor (soon to be replaced by another 24 inch) in widescreen view. I only recently added this monitor, after i installed a e8400 and easily clocked it to 3.6 on air (with a great thermalright cooler on top). I gotta tell you.. there's no going back to one screen after you experienced this wideview. At least, that's how it is for me. I was baffled though, that I had to re-install my complete FSX under XP because Vista/Nvidia (i have ultimate64) doesn't support dualview anymore (=running fsx on 2 monitors as one view). I'm really very happy with the wideview, so happy that my wife is afraid that my face with rip apart from the stupid wide grin i have while flying... and the performance impact wasn't as big as I hoped for either, I lost maybe 4-5 frames. I have to say though, that my pc was very stable and running fsx quite fast and without stutters, before I even tried this. Oh and I'm running this machine on one 8800GTX, most sliders are happily on the right side most of the time. The second machine with the 3rd monitor is connected via FSUIPC/WideFS/Simconnect and runs all my other stuff like ASA, FSCommander, RadarContact etc etc-- to lower the load on my main machine. It's also possible to connect this 2nd machine with Wideview, and be able to get more FSX views on the 3rd monitor, but that needs a new install again on this computer too and run synchronized via FSUIPC with the main machine. A great option to have but I'm not quite certain yet if I want, and need a 3rd view.Gert

Fex Users Who Have Bought Rex?
Oh and the above means that the free weather engine is still a go, as far as i can tell... a fullblown commercial weather engine isn't, or at least unlikely. To get back on topic and answer the original poster's question:I have them all too.. ASA, REX, and FEX, X Graphics. I mix all graphics (with awesome results) to my taste, and use a networked ASA for my weather engine. Both FEX and REX have great clouds, REX water is on top of anything currently outthere IMO (esp combined with the excellent FSWC "FSWater configurator)".REX also has some great airport graphics, but than so does Graphics X. All 3 have great skies, suns, moons.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder-- and with so many graphics out there, there's something for everyone. I'd say they all mix up very well. And as long as my wife agrees me spending on it, I'm a happy Chaser.Gert

Fex Users Who Have Bought Rex?
Posted: 12 October 2008 at 10:38am" A thought just occurred..I have been puzzling over the report by Charlysix that Flight1 staff had intimated the weather engine wasn't going to be released. I believe this MAY have been a misunderstanding. We had planned a full commercial Environment Simulator, however this now looks exceedingly unlikely for economic reasons. Alot of work has already been done towards that goal however to complete the original vision will require allot more development time. Whilst I am not ruling it out completely, Flight1 staff would have been aware that the idea had been pushed to the background and it is probable that this is what they meant and not the free weather component of FEX. Asa And Simmarket
Hi,First congratz on a new release! I'm looking forward using the new improved weather engine! :( I have two questions about updating from ASX:I bought ASX from simmarket (basially because i had a problem getting it direct from your HiFi shop-- you might remember). I noticed ASA isn't available (yet) on simmarket. I assume that i can update my "simmarket bought ASX" with the ASA from your own shop..?Also, my IP changed last year (same provider though).. do I have to contact you to be able to activate my ASA once installed? If you need more info, pls let me know. Thanks!Gert

Dx10 Or Dx9?
Hi,Vista is capable of running DirectX10. In order to run DirectX10, you need a program that supports DirectX10 AND the capable hardware to run DirectX10.FSX is capable of running under DX10 (preview mode), under Vista. Again, to run FSX in DX10, you need a DX10 capable videocard. Just adjust the settings within FSX if you have a DX10 capable videocard (else the DX10 option isn't available).AFAIK, there has never been an update to DX10, other than the release version of DX10.The link you provided in your OP will update your DX to the latest version, in this case DX9 (which is always a good things to update as most programs run in DX9-- this is also true in Vista).Hope this helps.Gert

Captain Sim C-130 X-perience And Vista 64 Bit
Hi there!I'm sorry to hear about your problems.I'm running it on Vista 64 SP1 (FSX SP2) without any problems, on a [email protected], 4 Gig mem and a 8800GTX at stockspeed. The only problem I had in the past was sound related, but that was fixed when a new driver from Creative was released. I run in DX9 mode btw, but don't have any problems running in DX10 mode either.I hardly have any suggestions for you either what could cause it, I assume that you did all updates to Vista and FSX already. Have you overclocked? If you did, is it stable and not overheating? If you overclocked, have you tried to run it without overclock? Are you mem speed and timings correct (i can run mine anywhere from 667-1150 MHZ)? How much mem have you installed? If you have 4 Gig mem, did you try with 2 Gig? Do you have the latest BIOS for your mobo installed? How about the latest Chipset drivers? Are you sure that you installed the latest drivers for your sound and videocard?Ahh, it's just a few suggestions as to where you could look at, I'm quite sure you know all that... I can only hope for you that you can get it to run, it's a great plane! Good luck!Gert

What FSX-DX10 should have looked like
>>I'd like to see a Xbox, or a game like Crysis-- pull off>what FSX does. Only people who believe in fairies believe>that's possible..>>After going on at length about"apples and oranges" comparisons>you then do exactly that. A curious bit of argument indeed.>I guess you understand the meaning of that line a bit wrong and pull it out of context. I wrote that exactly for the sake of the argument that it is silly to compare. It's not possible, by design, for either of the 2 to include for example a FSX PMDG 747-- and even if it was possible, they would not be able to do it while maintaining their visual excellence and framerate-- regardless how excellent the 2 are, or seem to be, in their own respect.Regards,Gert
