  1. Hi Tom, Yep it gets interesting sometimes on the transition from the 700 to the 300 or 500. The SA is so much better on the 700. :-)Hey Ed, yep that is pretty much spot on. Typically, departing on the Loop...after depart. ATC wants us to 250 quickly; so we'll fly our 210/220(if above 117k) to 3k then accel to 250. Ordinarily, if we are going away from our fix, we stay at the slower speed. But, in LA they want us out of there quickly. Usually around the 8-10mi range they give us a left turn back to the LAX Vor; then pick up the Loop from There. It's a little tougher making the crossing restriction in the 300 vs 700; but we usually seem to do ok.Have Fun. look forward to seeing the vid. I too love your panel edits; as others..so many times I wioshed I could have that. :-) Or at least have the talent to create one. Oh well, I'll stick to flying the 73 and my Aerostar.Best,David
  2. Tom etal...re Southwest Auto throttles Vnav on the 300's. You are correct that we don't have auto throttles on the 300,500's. However, we do have VNAV on some of the 300 fleet. If it has 2 CDU's present, we can utilize the VNAV. Our 700's and soon to be 800's will be full up on everything. Most of the fleet have HUD's(Head Up Guidance) except the 500'sMOst of the time on those aircraft, I use the VNAV for sescents, it doesn't do that great of a job holding speed on the climb. As to autopilot use, we are encouraged to use as much automation as possible. Unless an anomaly requires the A/P to be disconnected, it is used most of the time. There are a lot of us that will handfly, usually on climbout to 10k; but usually use the A/P for the approach, depending on what type.IE: if straight in, we'll use the A/P a lot to 200 ft depending on what kind of day we have had. :-) If it's a busy visual; ie he "slamdunk" into KDAL, Most of us will kickoff the A/P and handfly, due to all the configuration cahnges going on; just a little easier that way. And there are some that will use the automation more; and others "old school" that still want to ..."Fly It Like a 200" :-)Hope that clears up some things for you.Best,DavidEDIT: Clarify ALL aircraft have/use autobrakes now. It's a requirement on wet runways.
  3. Wow guys, what memories. Thanks for the site johan. Would be interesting to fly some of the adventures again with FSX. :-) I still have a lot of those older games. F-14 Fleet defender...what a blast(no pun intended). Wish they could have made that one more modern.Flight Assignment ATP, still holds it's own. Simon Hradecky took it up a notch with his tools as well. 3DAGS anyone. :-) He had the editor ATPUTIL, that opened up so much for FA ATP. As said, those were the good ole days. As most of you, I think I probably purchased just about everything that was released in the flight sim genre. Never manged to master any of the per se. Maybe someday, Simon will release his AS3. Although it would seem, he would have to keep recoding to keep up with the everchanging graphic chips etc. Would be awesome to see a modern day version of flight assignment ATP. I know the virtual stuff, pretty much covers that angle now anyway...but still fun non the less.I remember the first time I met Mr. Artwick, it was at the conference in Ithaca. Also, were I met Joe Lincoln "Pawpaw" from Tekmate, Laemming Wheeler<SP>, Dr Jim Maas et al. What fun. Also, enjoyed the Microwings era aka Bob McKay. Those conf. were a blast too. Wonder what happened to Bob? Seems to have disappeared from all flight sim.I rember being in class at Southwest, and receiving the beta to MSFS 5.1; needless to say...didn't get too much beta testing done. :-) Can you say "firehose" training. :-) I see thay have a new updated version of Falcon. Still have my old CD; may give that a try.I remember trying to see if i could put together an idea I had re:"Golden Age of flying" Were the planes, airports, scenery, nav aids etc...would reflect the time you were flying. Ie around the 30's would be the DC-3 and so on. Just never developed the skills to do so. Thought it would have been a cool add on at the time. :-) We are blessed with so many options from our passionate developers; I feel I'll have many hours of enjoyment with FSx or maybe even prepare3d when version 2.0 is released.Yes, I do love the PMDG NGX...stunning piece of work. However, right now; I'm having a blast with FSlabs Concorde...another stunning piece of work! Well I coud go on and on with memories; as I'm sure you nice folks could as well. Have Fun! Best, DavidEdit for spelling
  4. Hey Tom, don't know if it's depicted in the scenery. But a rule of thumb we use on the cirlce to 22L. You want to cross over the train marshalling yard, at 1800ft It helps to be slowed to around 170 or less. typically you'll have a pretty good tailwind from the southwest on the down wind. Gotta keep your turn within 3 mile for ORD traffic. Then adjust to the VASI's on final.Somepoint for a challenge. add a wintry mix with gusty winds and minumums right at circling mins. Get's real interesting. Needless to say, MDW is not one of my favorites in the winter for sure.another interesting cahllenge. Again, set up circling mins for 13C this time, with viz around 3mi. At least you'll hae an ILS as a backup on that one. :-)Have Fun.Best,David
  5. Title says it all. I did a search, most things talked about back in 2002.I d/l the PAD plane.I have seen the X-plane version...very nice. However, I'm not ready to try XP at this time.I know it's on the Carenado wishlist, my name included. After the FSD changeabout, looks like their MU2 is dead. So, does anyone have any idea through the grapevine of an MU2 for FSX?Thanks.Best,David
  6. Hi, just something to check. If done, apologies. In the intro. docs you followed; did you place the HIMEMFIX=1 in your FSX.CFG? If you entered it as per docs, there was a typo. Should be HIGHMEMFIX=1. If you had already done this previously, OK. Again the reason for ensuring you have the default flight in the cfg, is we found during testing, if someone saved a different default flight, it could/would sometimes conflict with the NGX loading. Going into the cfg file and removing all entries after Situation= resolved those freezes. Also, if you reset your CFG again, if you had a default flight you used, this time don't check the use as default flight checkbox. If using FSUIPC Autosave, don't load any flights from those. I found when I did that, my NGX would freeze and lock up everytime. Has something to do with resources used on how FSUIPC loads the aurosave, and how the NGX needs to initilize. Just load the NGX from your freeflight screen. Also, have you tried different varients. IE is this just happening on the 800,900 wingleted or non wingleted? Re; your add=ons. To make sure none are conflicting, if possible disable loading them 1 at a time, to see if that affects the NGX loading. Also, when you installed the NGX, did you also rerun the EZDOC config utility. During testing, I forgot to do this; one time I had a freeze, but mostly I had a strange spot view of aircraft..ie most not showing. These are just some of the things I remeber from the testing phase that resolved issues. SO to recap: 1. Consider, re-installing the NGX, making sure you have your antivirus stuff disabled for the install. Also, run the installer in Admin mode. IE rt click the NGX.exe install file and select run as administrator.2. Consider, once again deleting your fsx.cfg file. Save your existing one first. Start FSX, then shut down. Don't select anything. Load your FSX.CFG, edit the HIGHMEMFIX=1, and texture MAx Load=4096 per the intro docs.3. Restart FSX(as admin) without any add-ons(ie; active sky, ult traffic etc) just trying to get a basic default FSX load.4. Load a varient of the NGX from the free-flight screen, should get the activate stuff etc. Then the accept dll stuff. See if will load properly now. Also, if you have FSUIPC autosave turned on, turn that off, at least for now..so you can make sure it is not conflicting.5. If yyou have not already done so, please submit a ticket to the tech support folks. They see them faster than the forum. Hopefully, this will get you going. I was just a Tech advisor for the NG, I'm not a Dev dude. These are just some procedures we did when we experienced you issues. I know these guys are a dedicated bunch( albiet exhausted right now); they will get you up and running. As a real world 737-NG pilot...this is an amazingly simulated aircraft and systems. I know once you get up and running, you'll feel the same way most likely. :-) Finally, I hope you take this as a simple attempt to help out. I know we have a lot of the basics to try, but sometimes they help. I hope you don't feel patronized in a way you felt I'm talking down to you, in that I feel you don't kbnow anything about computers or FSX. That is not the case at all. I jut wanted to try and get you flying, based on info I had from testing. Best,David
  7. Hi Devenci. At WN, we do a 10 foot callout, typically were we flare. Flare too soon, she'll floaaaattt. ON an AIII approach(HGS) in AIII mode, it will have you reducing thrust and flaring slightly sooner. This is to ensure you hit the appropriate touchdown spot. When we were certifying our HUDS, they actually had a camera mounted by the main wheel area to ensure the accuracy and calibration was correct. Hope this clarifies somewhat.Best,David
  8. My .02As mentiond before, just makin it in the official wishlist. :-)Mitsubishi MU-2 Varients.Piper Aerostar 601P, Superstar 700. Best,David
  9. Hey folks. Since folks are adding their .02 for aircraft wishes. :-)I was disappointed when FSD, had the "change"; and pretty much cancelled out the MU-2 in developement. So, perhaps Carenado, could visit this aircraft someday. Would be a hoot flying around PNW.Best,David
  10. Cool! Mike. We'll have to hook up sometimeBest,David Hi John. As I said. No problem. Lesson Learned. I'll always check your site from now on, instead of letting the excitemnt of your products, override my "common sense". I know I purcahsed 6 from you, so there might be a couple of more I could get at the sale. :( Thank Yiou for your wonderful products.Best,David
  11. I'll give it a shot, if the forums become avail. again. Say, Plano,TX huh. Just up the street from me, I live in Colleyville. :-)..small world.Best,David
  12. Hi, Yeah I thought of that. The forum is down for MX right now. I begin my 3 day flying sequence tommorrow, so the SALE will be over when I get back into town.Still, lookng forward to flyinf around the scenery nontheless.Best,David
  13. well, I blew it! didn't check the ORBX forum, before I purchased 6 PNW sceneries on March 31st.I just found out, ALL PNW sceneries are on sale for a little over $19 bucks!!!!! AHHHHHHGGGGHHH.I just paid the full almost 40 bucks for them. ACCKKK! Oh well, lesson learned. At any rate, I have vented; I am fine. :-)GREAT DEAL...Go For It! SALE ends April 8th. I screwed myself over, but hope this will help some of you follks on the fence re ORBX PNW scenery.Best,David
  14. Oops, sorry anders. my bad. I get confused on this quote thingy at times. I don't post too often. Apologies.I may have done it again on another post. I'll be more careful from this point on.Best,David William Barnett
  15. Hey Robert. The HGS looks great. Just one question. I know this is work in progress, hence why it isn't present in your shot(s). I noticed you were in AIII mode. But on the flight path symbol, I didn't see the guidance cue. IE the "doughnut" Will this be a part of your HGS system. That is the main indicator used for AIII approaches. We can doo them down to 500RVR now with 50' DH. Very interesting when you do one for real. Did a hand flown 700RVR into SMF one night. That runway reference symbol, sure gives you a warm fuzzy. :( At any rate, hopefully you'll have that integral and very important component in the HGS system for your 737NGX. As I mentioned, looking forward to her release. May you and oyurs, have a blessed Thankgsgiving.Best,David William BarnettEDIT: Robert, should have clarified. I was reffering to the Honeywell HGS 2300's and or the 4000. In the screenshot, it looks like your AIII mode, is the ILS mode on the Honeywell. So, you may be using another model of HGS, if so; apologies.
  16. Hello Robert. I totally concur with the above. As a pilot for that"little ole airline from texas" I have seen so many derivatives of our planes; you can't keep track. It blows me away when I fly one -700 and the controls feel like the ole -200, and then you do a swap, and the things feels like your flying a mac truck! Heeeaaavvvyyy!!!.Love the new HGS 4000's though. so much better than the older models. Also less dense as well. We had a Captain, get hit on the head from the old thick glass unit...knocked him out..and knocked him out of flying as well, due to recurring medical problems. Always make sure that baby is locked up tight.Just finished my stage 4 RNP training. Looking at your screenies, certainly looking forward to flying her. Hope some day we can meet. Flew in the regionals before Southwest.....times have changed...for sure. I'm sure we both have some good stories to tell. :( Thanks for this cutting edge product.Patiently waiting.Best,David William BarnettEDIT: Forgot to sign full name..oops
  17. As of late there seems to be only one developer interested in actively producing aircraft simulations (and I speak strictly from an airliner point of view since that is all I fly) and that is PMDG (LDS hasn't produced a new aircraft in a decade). All of the other development houses are producing "games" and that is to say aircraft that only marginally represent their real world counterparts inside where it counts. Oh, yes, there are plenty of pretty aircraft being produced that look picturesque and photo-real. So we then end up with no less than four Airbuses and NOT ONE "simulates" an Airbus! But why? All high fidelity aircraft come with an "easy" mode where you don't have to start from cold and dark and don't have to align the INS. Has the market changed from that of hobbyists to game players that have no interested in the value of reading a manual? Mike, agree spmewhat. But the above quote I don't feel is quite accurate. Mainly speaking of the fantastic Concorde X from FS Labs. True, they did add some "easy" stuff in the package. But, I beleive they did that to appeal to the "I don't want to read the manual" folks you mentioned. However, not with standing, if you don't read the manual or follow the tutorial on Concorde X; you'll most likely never get the beautiful girl off the ground. That said, if the simmer desires, he/she can shut off all the "easy" stuff and have a Concorde experience as close to the real aircraft as possible. Now they are working on the a320 airbus. If it is anything like the systems modeling that was done on Concorde, I believe it will be, then you'll certainly have a "Simulation" regarding airbus.Just .02David
  18. Geez guys, it's not out yet. Let's give the FS-Labs folks a chance here.Throughout flightsim history, there have been many things released that had cutting edge features, developement etc.Lefteris and Andrew and Co. have made numerous mentions of the steps they have taken to make to allow Concorde X to run as smooth as possible. If you take the time to go to the FS-labs website, more screenshots, and in the Forum...a lot of questions answered. I would love to post some links to those particular areas. But, I don't choose to come across as "Advertising" for having a passion for this particular airplane, and it's release.Have Fun!Best,David
  19. Hey folks, no not exactly what you might think.Just a small request or consideration for those that post your wonderful screenies.I'm a real world pilot flying 737's and Piper Aerostar. I love to look at your inflight shots, enviroment etc......but I fly the 737's and Aerostar from the cockpit. So, would you guys consider including at least 1 cockpit shot in your postings.Sometimes, they have been shown before, but since Avsim deletes pics regularly, they can't be viewed again after a period of time. I always enjoy looking at the panel layouts as well as the plane, since that is were I fly from.So if you could include at least 1 cockpit shot in all it's glory, would really appreciate your consideration. :( Except eddetroit...he just likes to rub it in our face. Just kidding Ed. Your panels are always awesome. :( Thank You.Glad I'm not flying in the North East right now...not pretty.Have Fun!David
  20. Hi Gus, Thank You for your help. Wierd, I tried accessing the site from laptop as well. Windows 7. Still locking up on me. Oh well. maybe someday I can get it figured out fully.DavidEDIT: Add additional info.OK folks, mystery solved. There was an underlying script trying to run. Took about 5 minutes for a window to pop up to give me the choice to disable the script. She's runs fine now.Unfortunately, it was all for naught. As Robin the author of the tutorial abandoned the remainder of part 4b and 5. So, I guess some info is bedretter than none. Thanks agin.David
  21. Howdy folks. If someone has a moment, could you go to the flightsim world website.Go to the knowledgebase section, and click on any of the tutorials.reason being, i had been following a very good repaint tutorial from a Robin G (I think) using an Ifdg 320 air Nalta airbus.well after he released section 3 I beleieve, he lost the files; and discontinued the tutorial. Hoever, I noticed on a search from my original link, he had finally released part 4,4a.Everytime, I go off the main home page of flightsim world, I lock up on the knowledgebase page and or forum pages. I also lock up when trying to access the contact us link as well.Tried disabling some things I thought might conflict in some sort of way, even resorted in booting in safe mode to try and access the site. So, can some one please check out and see if they can access, or if you have any information regarding the site/forums. Save me some worthless troubleshooting, if the problem is on their end. If not, well I'll keep trying...or try and find this great tutorial elsewhere. Yes, I know there are other great ones as well. I just liked this one a lot, for the explanations. Thanks for any help and or info.Best,DavidPS if anyone has this tutorial or other links besides flightsim world I would appreciate the info.

    Tower Simulator

Hi Craig, yes you need to move it to the system32 directory. Otherwise they conflict with each other.BEST,David

    Tower Simulator

Hi Craig, try this.In your Tower folder, create a BAKup folder. Move your MSVCRTx.dll into this BAKup folder. You'll use the newer MSVCRT.dll fiiles in XP.Move, not copy the Wing32.dll file to the Windows System32 folder. That should do it.D/L Listener2, and install it...pretty straight forward. That should get you going Ok. Listener2 really makes BAO tower a blast.Recommend start of low traffic in DC, to get used to Listener2 stuff.I find, if you ask the traffic to call 5 mile final, gives you a good heads up for traffic flow. Hopefully someday, Tower Simulator will add this feature as well. really helps when you get BUSSSYY! :-)Hope it works. Have fun.best,David
