  1. You can merge the RFP 2D panel with the Posky 742 model pretty easily - there are several threads on Avsim that list the changes needed to the panel.cfg file to accomplish this. I went this route because I didn't like the performance of the stock RFP on my computer either. John G.
  2. Yes; great news indeed. I'll certainly be voting for the FS9 version with my wallet when it's released. Kudos to Carenado for supporting the good old sim.John G.
  3. I haven't purchased anything from the "good" Captain since the MiG-21 for FS2002, but being acquainted with their business practices from the unfortunate experiences of others in this forum, I wouldn't buy one of their products even if it was personally delivered by Heidi Klum.(Well, maybe in that case.....)John G.
  4. Wow, Dave, thanks for the link to QLRP4UT, which I never knew about before! That cleaned up several UT landclass problems I had with building placement, particularly in the D.C. area. Now I can take off from Shez Ansari's excellent KDCA without seeing the Pentagon stuck in the middle of a highway, and the Kennedy Center halfway into the Potomac! Great stuff.John G.
  5. Clutch - 9D is a tremendous alternative to payware! Even thought the FT version is amazing, from the videos I've seen of it on Avsim and elsewhere, I've been buying other scenery ahead of it simply because 9D is so darn good in its own right. And I'm very interested to hear that improvements might be in the works, too!Great job to you and the rest of the team.John G.
  6. Yes, I am officially in awe of those guys, and for FS9 to boot! Can't wait for the release. Having spent many hours in Rowan's old "Mig Alley", a new Sabre is very welcome.John G.
  7. Yep, you pegged it, Jure. I don't own FSX, and FS9 looks and flies so good on my 10-month-old computer that I don't plan to buy it anytime soon. I recently picked up GE Pro II, and have been kicking myself for not doing so sooner - it transforms the sim, all over the world. I'm a real-world GA pilot, and my heavily-upgraded FS9 is close enough to the real thing for my tastes. I've followed the trials and tribulations of the overclocking hardware gurus on the other forums in their quest to move the PMDG 744 out of the single digits FPS-wise (and OOM-wise), and have been grateful for my "reduced expectations" and stone-stock Dell, which allows me to just fly all day, in any scenario.Good times.John G.
  8. I don't know if it's possible given the limitations of the crowded panel (and R. Probst's original bitmap) to include the gauges needed for modern RVSM use, like a backup altimeter and artificial horizon, but it would be neat to see a more modern presentation. And of course I can't wait to see how you'll integrate the ISG FMC into the panel. Since I don't own FSX, and don't intend to buy it, the lack of a port is not an issue for me.Thanks Bob!John G.
  9. Glad your stuff finally made it, Bob; looking forward to more Tinmouse goodness. Enjoy the Springs; I lived in the Denver area for many years, and miss Colorado a great deal.John G.
  10. I've had no problems with my 9-month-old FS9 installation on a Vista Home 32-equipped computer. I have the usual terrain add-ons and the Maddog 06, PMDG 738, DA Fokker 100, RFP V2, plus many third party airports from Aerosoft, FSDT, Cloud 9, and Flightzone. I have read that some have had problems with the PSS/JustFlight 757 in Vista, but I can't find anything definitive on that. I've never suffered an OOM error as yet, even though I regularly fly between complex add-on airports with AES installed at both ends, but that's as likely due to dumb luck rather than Vista.John G.
  11. Are you an Ultimate Terrain user? I recall that some had trouble with CTD's related to this when flying from the US to Canada, and either installing the latest patch and/or disabling coastlines in UT seemed to help. There's a thread on this from earlier in the year in the FS9 forum.John G.
  12. I use a freeware one by Hector Molina that's quite good, although not as detailed as the Sky-Decks one. Ernie Alston has a retrofit cfg file for Hector's panel with his payware ISG gauges and FMC which may be seen here:http://isgsim.com/?page=panel_library⊂=retro_posky_crj200John G.
  13. Yes, let's not have a timely and informative thread locked due to unnecessary cheap shots. I admit that I was taken aback by the lack of reference in the review to the CS 757's flaws that have been listed repeatedly in this forum, but this thread will hopefully include lots of input from other owners of the software. John G.
  14. I found that the cure for the "notchy" terrain like the one in your pic was to reduce the "sight distance" slider under Display/Weather in your in-game FS9 settings. I have it at its leftmost setting (60 mi).John G.
  15. Early adopters usually end up paying more than those who wait, and it looks like this is no exception. Although I took advantage of the 3-for-2 deal in this case, I'm sure I'll be left out when they release DFW. It would be nice if they offered a discount for previous customers, like Radar Contact did for V4. Still, I'm grateful that anybody's making new content for FS9, as I'll be using it for many years to come. Sceneries like KJFK make that prospect pretty painless.John G.
  16. Just installed it, and WOW! A tremendous, framerate-friendly achievement from the FSDT crew. And they're having a promotion in which you get Zurich free if you buy this and KORD together. Looks like I'll be up all night flying the Boston-New York shuttle.John G.
  17. Hyperlobby is probably what you're looking for if you lack mikes and headsets, and want to do comms by typing:http://hyperfighter.sk/However, I'd recommend getting a PC headset if you want to fly online with someone else, especially in a training environment. They're cheap (starting around $20), and there are several free comms programs out there that are easy to set up (like TeamSpeak). I flew with a virtual squad for years, and it was a blast, but I finally got fed up with F4's online stability (or lack of same). I'd also recommend checking out Frugal's World and SimHQ for more info on combat sims online.Good luck!John G.
  18. A terrific scenery indeed, but not a recent release - I've had it for around two years. I'm not sure if AES is in the works for it or not, but it's very well done anyway, with reasonable framerates given the complexity of it all.John G.
  19. Actually, with Vista it's now the opposite - I get much better framerates in Full-Screen mode than in Windowed mode. I run nHancer for AA and have the AA setting disabled in-game. Works well.John G.
  20. I like to fly out of the freeware CanUk Springbank airport (CYBW) around the Calgary area, my old hometown. With GE Pro and UT-Canada installed, and the SibWings Safir, it's pretty true-to-life. FT's St. Maarten and St. Bart's are also favorites.John G.
  21. There are some threads on this issue, but here's my capsule version from memory:- Be sure to install FS9 in a folder outside of the "Program Files" folder. Vista treats some files in that directory as read-only.- Turn off UAC in Vista for sure, and possibly DEP as well.- Right-click the FS9 icon and change compatibility mode to XP. Run the program as an administrator.- Get a copy of the nHancer utility if you have an Nvidia card and want your anti-aliasing to work. Here's how to set up a profile for FS9:http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...;num=1201991487Hope this helps!John G.
  22. Well, that made for sobering reading! Thanks for the link. John G.
  23. Great news, indeed; I celebrated by buying Birmingham and Gatwick tonight! Bring on the AES!John G.
  24. Much the same story for me - I recently bought a new computer, and was grateful for the ability to finally fly into 9Dragons and KLAX with a full load of AI at greater than 20 fps, but when I got GE Pro a few weeks back, I was truly blown away by how good FS9 still looks VFR. I'm especially looking forward to the water and cloud improvements promised by REX, if the screenshots are any indication. John G.
  25. Graeme, I'm impressed that you were able to get something to appear in the FMC window at all; I really struggled with that. I was able to add VNAV and LNAV switches to the VC using switch holes previously defined, but that was about the limit of my success with VC editing in the Posky panel. Still, for light simming, it is fun to fly....John G.
