  1. Like Alstiff, I'm partial to the Tinmouse II, but my go-to airplane for knocking around the FS9 world is the SibWings SAAB Safir. A VC-only bird with the most lifelike gauge behavior I've ever seen in MSFS, and it's aerobatic, too. Trying to squeeze it into FlyTampa's St. Barts is a favorite pastime.John G.
  2. Shame about those sunscreens not being removable- they're the rough equivalent of drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa. Maybe a future update will take 'em out.And thanks to the previous poster for the tip about converting the textures - I've noticed that the Posky bird is very hard on frames in the VC, and that's probably one of the culprits. John G.
  3. I'm with you - enjoying FS9 on a new(ish) machine with no intention of getting FSX. I have Carenado's 182Q and Mooney, and love 'em both, but I respect their business decision to abandon the 5-year-old platform. I do think, though, that airliner developers are missing a good chunk of the market by making FSX only content going forward (Level-D 757 comes to mind).John G.
  4. Thanks for clarifying that; this is the first VC I've done any panel work on. I was finally able to fit the ISG LNAV and VNAV buttons into two existing switch positions in the VC, with some repetition to get the position right. Very pleased with the results.John G.
  5. Just installed, and it looks great. Thanks for your efforts, both on the airport and the surroundings.John G.
  6. Thank you, Esa, Benoit, and the rest of the team responsible for this beauty! I just installed the plane and skimmed the manual - amazing depth, and your 2D panels are terrific. Great job all!John G.
  7. I had the same problem last night when trying to add some ISG buttons to the Posky 777 VC - they only show up in or behind the open gauge holes. I guess that's a characteristic of the buttons, and not the VC itself. I should really spring for Panel Studio and quit the trial-and-error method of gauge placement.John G.
  8. Bless you, Ed; I'd taken a pass on those as they were advertised as FSX-only. Off to resize!John G.
  9. Good luck with the move, Bob, and we're looking forward to having you back in the forum (and the country)! The TM II is still in heavy rotation in my FS world, and I'm eagerly anticipating future development of this terrific bird.John G.
  10. I had the same experience when I got my Vista computer a few months back, with the Maddog 2006 in my case. The solution is to run the sim in Windowed mode instead of Full-Screen. On the Leonardo Maddog forum, there's a link to a "pseudo-fullscreen" dll file created by someone in the community that expands the windowed screen more than the default.John G.
  11. Thanks for the quick review. I'll probably skip this one for now, as I'm in that systems-happy phase of my Flight Sim evolution, and the RFP fits the bill just fine (especially when paired with Ernie Alston's ISG gauges and FMC). Still, if somebody comes up with a merge between this and the RFP, it might be worth a look.John G.
  12. I'm having so much fun flying cutting-edge airliners (DA's Fokker and the Maddog 2006) between first-rate add-on airports lately that I've decided to skip FSX for now. Every time I'm tempted by that FSX box in Best Buy, I find myself thinking about how many AES credits that $40 could buy, and I pass it up. I just wish Level-D would reconsider their decision to make the upcoming 757 FSX-only, as I think they're missing a good chunk of the add-on airliner market....John G.
  13. Thanks for picking up the torch on BEV - it's still my texture upgrade of choice, although it's a shame that they never finished the European version that was in the works.John G.
  14. Heck, Mike, at the rate I'm buying AES-capable airports these days (not to mention AES credits), I AM buying FS9 all over again, repeatedly! And loving it! :DI do wish Level-D would reconsider development of an FS9 version of their upcoming 757, though, since a lot of airliner simmers seem to be staying with the old platform....John G.
  15. Also, it's generally a good idea to install FS9 in it's own directory outside of "Program Files", as Vista tends to look at files in that directory as read-only. Makes modding your FS9 install problematic. Some even recommend installing it on a different hard drive, but since I only have one drive on my PC, I've put it on C: without any problems. And make sure you get nHancer if you have an Nvidia card.John G.
  16. Man, this feels like a weight-loss thread. I'm going to slink away in shame now with my 32 GB install...runs like a champ, though!:DJohn G.

  18. I think the type of avionics varies widely by operator these days. Here's the package I was referring to which upgrades any plane to modern FMS units:http://isgsim.com/This is also a good site for 737 information:http://www.b737.org.uk/flightdeck737200adv.htmJohn G.
  19. Been thinking about buying this one myself, since I spend so much time in the Tinmouse II and RFP 742, both of which seem tailor-made for this upgrade. I see that Ernie even includes panel config mods on his site for these and other popular planes.Think we've got a deal! :DJohn G.
  20. The Tinmouse II as released has a 1970's-era panel that wouldn't be used today, due to the lack of gauges needed for RVSM regulations. Here's a recent shot of an Aloha 732:http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1251598/LAnd a 732 of Star Peru:http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1203140/LI think that very few 737's would have had the CIVA in real life, given the cost of the unit at the time. I've added Lee Hetherington's free TCAS to my Mouse panel, and am thinking seriously of buying the ISG add-on FMS package, which would be pretty similar to the Star Peru setup above.John G.
  21. If you're running on Vista, try deleting the c: Program Data/NVidia folder as part of the driver uninstall process, and reinstall the drivers. nHancer lets duplicated game profiles stack up in there, which can interfere with AA. I'm using the 169.44's on my 8800GT card with good results. These threads were very helpful to me when trying to get my AA to work with nHancer:http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...um=1205424955/4http://forum.nhancer.com/showthread.php?t=281John G.
  22. I prefer the old, high-workload iron also, mainly the RFP 747 and Tinmouse II, both because they require a fair amount of attention, and also because I grew up in the '70's when planes like this were state-of-the-art. Great fun when flying into the equally retro 9 Dragons VHHX. Even my favorite FMC-equipped bird, the Maddog 2006, has a higher workload than the more recent airliners.Gimme those round gauges any day!John G.
  23. Glad it worked for you! FS9 is a bit of a pain to tweak with the current generation of video cards, but it's well worth the effort.John G.
  24. By the sound of it, I assume you're using the in-game AA setting and that's why your AA is working in fullscreen without nHancer. Have you done the procedure wherein you disable the existing FS9 profile in nHancer and create a new one? This will allow AA to work in Windowed mode with the in-game AA setting unchecked, which is the only way I run the sim now. There is also a new beta version of nHancer that works well with FS9 (2.4.0 Beta 5). Be sure that the "Enhance In-Game AA Setting" box is unchecked in both Global and Profile settings, which the new beta version allows you to select - older versions had this setting greyed out.Keep in mind, I have a different NVidia card, so this may not work for you. Here's two threads with more detail about setting up nHancer:http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...um=1205424955/4http://forum.nhancer.com/showthread.php?t=281John G.
  25. Looks like a driver issue to me, also. I use the 169.44's with success on my 8800GT card. In fact, the only FS9 issues I've had with my new Vista PC have been related to the video card and not the operating system. Are you running FS9 in Win XP Compatibility Mode, and using Nhancer? It also helps to run FS9 in it's own directory outside Program Files.Good luck!John G.
