  1. >Does anyone know if it's possible to install and run FSX on>Linux using WINE? Thank you.You would need a lot of wine :)
  2. Guess it best to wait the flyer may be wrong, with FSX basic at $39 does not make sense for the add on to be $49.$34.95CND sounds right.
  3. Just seen the newest The Source by Circut City flyer with a display of all FS products including Acceleration Expansion Pack. It's priced at $49.99CND !! , our dollar is now worth more than the US dollar, what happened to the $30 estimate?
  4. Only in memory benchmarks. In fact you can probably just go into your bios and set the current ram to run at 800 most ram over clocks, but you will not see any difference with FS9 or FSX. For that you need a faster CPU.
  5. Nice clean app.One suggestion is to have an option to change the color of the track, those who are red / green color blind might have a harder time seeing the red line on a usually greenish map.Down the road be nice if it showed the plane position/track in real time in GE, I currently use FSX Google Earth Tracker for that.http://www.juergentreml.de/joomla/index.ph...id=46&Itemid=57It works well but is not updated anymore it seems, but is now open source you might be able to port his code to your app.In any case, thanks for your tracker!
  6. Looks great!Just one thing, is I'd be tempted to wait for the new Penryn CPUs since they are due any day now and FSX needs every thing it can get :)
  7. Thanks for the tip, I would have never found that one.Amazing and on a 360 no less. First demo in a long time I couldn't stop playing!
  8. HDs are very cheap just start with a fresh install on a new HD, then you have your old one intact.
  9. FSX will detect and use the quad just fine.If you video card is a 8800 then you may have to install nHancer, delete the current FS profiles and create a new one, to get the best image in FSX.As usual with a flight sim you can find 100's of tips on the web but just do as needed, get your basic setup going then if you notice issues try to address them.
  10. Here's what I did:0) Install CPU and heatsink on MB1) Install memory on MB2) Install MB in case3) Install Video Card4) Connect Power Supply wires, remember video card needs one too5) Attach single HD6) Boot with OS CD, format full drive NTFS quick, and install 7) Once OS installed install MB drivers from MB CD8) Connect to net and run windows update9) Install latest Video card driver10) Make a restore point11) Install Flight Sims and enjoy:)Optional: Install cpu-z and coretemp to check speeds and temps. With low cost HDs I dont see the need to partition anymore, some still do.Once the basic install above is stable then you can shutdown add any other internal cards and HDs one at time, checking all is OK after installing the drivers.Have fun, good luck!
  11. Multiple monitors is very nice, 3 works great with FS9 but I find FSX is just too demanding still for more than one view.
  12. Could those who installed it comment on how it effects frame rate? This question is just for the lucky few who have RTM Acceleration...Will Acceleration/SP2 install cleanly if UTX Canada is installed first?
  13. I don't know if your system will deliver 22fps except in rare areas and with simple aircraft.Check Toms Hardware for GPU FSX benchmarks. It seems most who are getting 20-25 in all areas have a Intel Duo or Quad at around 3GHz with a 8800 or 7950 GPU. Here's a great set of settings that work well for many:http://jonpatch.wordpress.com/2007/08/05/s...ttings-for-fsx/
  14. >Hey Phil...how 'bout an ACCEL for FS9? (very large grin)>OK...I won't hold my breath....lol.>That's a interesting concept, looking at the file library and 3rd party offerings of late, a MS addon for FS9 just might out sell one for FSX.In fact I think it would, not a knock on FSX but I think the vast user base of FS9 are happy with older PC's that just dont run FSX well, but they still use FS9 enough to enjoy buying new addons. That will change over time...
  15. Looking forward to flying the F18.I must say Phil your blog entry seems somewhat defensive or disappointed that more is not offered? The product seems exciting to me as the F18 and carrier is well worth $30. I would have thought your post would be more upbeat with fancy screen shots showing the DX9 vs DX10 differences, giving more examples of framerate changes, eye candy shots of Acceleration in action?Quick question, how are the decisions made for what features to add? Example: Adding VC shadows as opposed to outside scenery enhancments, orDeciding to focus on water enhancements vs land?Do you poll existing users, have a test group, etc?One more, if we turn bloom off and leave water on 1.x any framerate increase?
  16. Phil's indicated he will post today all we need to know...http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/default.aspxor I guess he could post his post is being delayed :)
  17. P-12c just reported that Acceleration is done and his sights are on FS11. Maybe that clears Phil to release all the waited for details on SP2, and the final Acceleration product. Should be some nice screenshots showing up soon!
  18. FlyingsCool - Never seen the issue in FS9, I can use outside view reply and pan with out issue, just like in the game. I dont consider a fix to use another view, thats a workaround?Phil - just not clear on your reply above, your not aware of a fix, but is it a FSX bug for everyone or a specific problem with 8800's in Vista, or just an issue with some setups?
  19. Phil - if you have a minute...Using a 8800 / Vista / FSX SP1, I get very jerky playback in Instant Replay mode panning using Outside view. In normal game playing mode its fine. Are you aware of that issue, any comment, suggestions or upcoming fixes?
  20. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...ls/directx.mspxStill on the website? What version of Vista do I need for that.Talk about putting pressure on Aces :)
  21. Thanks interesting.I had hoped for higher clock speeds guess we have to wait for that, with most now running at 3.2GHz +, I'm waiting for a stock 3.6+ quad before upgrading. Those who did not upgrade yet, waiting for Jan looks the best way to go.o/c quads is harder but mostly due to heat, just add a big CPU heatsink and lots of case fans and it works fine.
  22. See here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=pri...7&mesg_id=27037and http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...topic_id=399256Maybe these should be stickies...
  23. >OK, sounds easy enough for me. My goal is also 3.2GHz. and I>have been thinking about the 120 Extreme cooler too... do you>recommend it? Does it require any fan, or is it completely>passive (it looks like it from the pictures)?>>Thanks for your help!I love the Extreme, took my temps down a lot.I use the Scythe 1600 rpm fan on it, and two 1200rpm intake fans on the front of the case, one tri speed fan on the back, and one in the PS. Lots of fans. The quads run hot. If your going with a duo 6850 then I'd think you could drop to 1200 rpm on the Exteme and a single intake and outtake fan.
  24. I increased the FSB until I got errors running prime 95. Then increased the voltage within the processor max voltage on listed Intel. In my case I decided running lower voltage at 3.2Ghz made more sense than a high heat producing voltage just to get it to 3.5. Thats the key watch the CPU heat as you run P95.Instead of finding the max clock speed and needed voltage I tried to find the min voltage to run at 3.2GHz. System has been rock solid since and runs cool with a 120 Extreme on the CPU.I found a Q6700 overclocked much easier than a Q6750, as the default FSB is lower on the Q6700. For FSX once you hit 3GHz your fine, going to 3.6 really does not make much diff in the game but it does on your system heat.
