X-Plane for dummies or similar tutorial
Thanks for the replies. I managed to fly the Cessna after learning to click on the correct icon, some calibration and assigning the brakes to the pedals. I am getting old. I even know what a Commodore Vic is.

X-Plane for dummies or similar tutorial
I have the same question. X-plane looks fabulous, but I have not managed to fly the Demo-plane. The manual only gives information about flying the Cessna, but not how to fly the Demo-plane in the Demo-setup. I guess something should happen when I move the throttle on my Ch-yoke?If I buy X-Plane is there more documentation then in the Demo-version?

Would you buy an XBOX 360 for FSXI?
No I won't. I don't mind to spend money on my hobby, but I won't buy another kind of computer. Besides, where do I find the room to place a second set of monitors and the other hardware? Jan

How to open .cfg files?
I had the same problem on an older computer. I saved it as you did, with .txt but then renamed the file by changing the extension .txt with .cfg. I had the same problem on an older computer. I saved it as you did, with .txt but then renamed the file by changing the extension .txt with .cfg.

Crackling sound
It is an old Flight Simulator problem. I noticed it with FS 2002. Turning down hardware acceleration did help. There were then many posts about this solution on the Avsim forum. With FSX I was surprised to have the problem back but the solutions of 2003 did not help. Like in 2002 it only occured with certain aircraft, so I stopped flying the small Cessna. Another sound card did not help. Because in the mean time Creative had come up with a new driver I tried the old sound card again and fortunately had normal sound back again. On my new Vista computer I was lucky enough not to have it back. It is on my wishlist for FS 11 that it does not have crackling sound anymore.

Fsx Switches To Secondary Monitor
wandelen replied to wandelen's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHi Andy,Thanks for your reply. It was indeed a good way to get fsx on my main monitor again. However, when I changed a few times between full screen and windowed mode I got an error message and the screen went haywire. That did not happen before but now I guess that I have to change the graphics card. I hope my supplier agrees with me.Cheers,Jan

Fsx Switches To Secondary Monitor
I recently bought a new PC and a new secondary monitor. Performance with FSX is a bit disappointing, but my main problem at the moment is that FSX does not display at my main screen. I have two Samsung widescreen monitors of 24 inch with 1920 x 1280 px 60 Hertz, 32 bit color (SyncMaster 245B+ and SyncMaster 2443bw).FSX starts at my main screen and stays there till I start a flight. When it has loaded the fligth it starts at the secondary monitor and the main monitor remains black. The strange thing is that FSX on the second monitor also switches tot a lower resolution. When the flight is loading I first see a black rectangle on my secondary monitor and when the flight starts it fills the monitor complete (at a lower resolution). When I go to Settings

Need some sound advice...no really...sound advice
I had the same problem, with FS2002 and with FSX on different computers and with a SB Live and a SB Audigy card. I found different solutions. With FS 2002 it would help to have lower settings with DirectX-sound, but this did not help with FSX. At first I had the latest Creative drivers. Fortunately after a year, Creative released newer drivers that solved the problems. I also tried a different sound card but that did not work well with SP2. I hope you solve the problem because I found it very annoying.Regards,Jan

Pet Peeve
I totally agree. Of course it depends on how good you already are. I don't have time to fly more than two or three times a week, so I don't like to search for hours for checklists on the internet. It wouldn't cost that much time to put the information on paper. Besides I like the excellent documentation about an airplane that a companie like PMDG delivers with their aircraft. I also did like the Beaver of Aerosoft and will buy their Twin Otter, but hesitate about aircraft from other manufacturers.Jan

Does anyone know what causes this graphics problem
I had the same problem, with Windows XP and another CPU and graphics card. As far as I remember it happened after installing SP2, but I am not sure. I couldnot find a solution, so I reinstalled everything and the problem did not occur again.Regards,Jan

FSX Control Assignments
I found this long ago on the forum and tried it, and it worked, before many re-installs. I did add these lines today, but did not try it in FSX. It doesn't get overwritten later and doesn't use FSUIPC. I tried the CH Manager, but, well, am not bright enough.Regards,Jan1. Go to the FSX folder where your FSX.cfg resides.2. Open the Controls folder3. Open the Standard.XML file using notepad.4. Scroll down to almost the bottom until you find the heading and under it the label for CH FLIGHT SIM YOKE USB5. Replace the entry lines Index 6 and Index 7 with this:6GEAR_UP7GEAR_DOWN6. Save your changes.7. Load FS and you should now have to toggle up for gear up and toggle down for gear down.Jan

Meigs!!
Thanks Bert. No, I only have the runway. As SP2 does not seem the problem, then maybe I have conflicting sceneries? A few months ago I tried to make my own Meigs (that was before I knew of this package), but I had problems with autogen trees, but I don't think that is the problem, because I uninstalled FSX and deleted all files and maps I could think of. Or maybe I still forgot a small file somewhere? Is there a way to see which scenery files are active or something like that?Jan

Meigs!!
Hi,I am also a fan of Meigs, and installed the add-on scenery of Meigs-field. But I have some problems with it. I can see the runway and I see planes taxying, but I don't see taxi-lanes or buildings. Moreover, after installing SP2, when I try to land (or start) I crash into an invisible wall.Does someone has a solution for one of these problems?Jan

CTD's with SP2 and without SP2
Solved it by exchanging the Terratec Aureon 7.1 soundcard with the Soundblaster Audigy. It becomes complicated because I had bought the Aureon soundcard to solve the static noise problem I had with the Soundblaster. However, still glad that FSX works again, and it looks fantastic.Jan

Popping / Crackling sound fsx/ fs2004 worse when around bussy airports
Hi,I had the same problem but did not find a cure till, in September of October there were new Creative drivers. This solved the problem. But I had already bought, but not yet installed, a secondhand Terratec soundcard, Aureon 7.1. This card worked well. Maybe that could be a solution? Sliders back did not help, besides I had this problem also in FS2002, with (then) the newest hardware.Good luck,Jan

CTD's with SP2 and without SP2
I have CTD's after I had installed SP2, but also after many uninstalls and reinstalls of FSX. At the moment I have only FSX installed, no service packs, and still get CTD's. Installing the new Nvidia drivers did not help. When flying the default mission (the trike over Friday Harbor) I only get the CTD when I access the menu, but when I fly to the Cessna over Friday Harbor the computer already locks up after a few seconds. However the messages that accompany the blue screen give the filename mfehidk.sys. So I gather that the problem has to do with this program. I have it twice on my computer, one in: C:WINDOWSsystem32drivers and one in: C:Program FilesMcAfeeVirusScan. On the internet I found some information about this program, but not enough to understand what I can do. Does someone know what can I do about it? And of course, everyone a Happy New Year!Jan van Wandelen

SP2-Full Screen Menus - FSX crashes - My Fix
On my computer after installing SP2 I had the same problem. After several uinstalls and reinstalls I also have the problem with FSX without the service packs. And my computer not only crashes when I access the menus while inflight, but also while flying without doing anything. It suddenly stutters a few seconds and after the blue screen it restarts. Installing the new Nvidia drivers did not help.

Re-install FSX: should I run it in between patches or not?
I am not sure about that. Have not managed to run FSX with SP2 and had to reinstall several times. You have to install in a certain order, also the SDK. Every reinstall gave other problems with FSX, so next time I will again uninstall everything concerning FSX and then install every version and try it before installing the next patch. After that install some third-party software.

Static noise in FSX
Yes, I checked for the latest drivers on the Creative-website and I have DirectX 9.0c. Thanks.

Static noise in FSX
I tried all suggestions except reformatting the HD and finally I solved the problem by setting the Hardware Acceleration slider complete to the left (with dxdiag). With someone else

Static noise in FSX
With some planes in FSX I hear loud static noise whenever I increase or decrease throttle, either with the keyboard or the CH yoke. I have a Soundblaster Audigy and 5.1 speakers. I turned down the hardware acceleration, turned down the scenery complexity, but this does not help. The problem occurs with the Cessna 182, the Baron, the Beaver, but not with the Cessna Caravan and the King Air. Does anyone has a suggestion for a cure?
