B200 Raisbeck EPIC with PT6A-52 Engines Mod Released
torque2 replied to whamil77's topic in B200 King Air FSX | P3D
I am unable to find a way to reset the generators. There is a Master Switch cover I can raise and lower, but the generator switches themselves only have two positions - ON or OFF. There is no third 'Reset' position I can identify with right or left clicks, nor with the mousewheel. David -
B200 Raisbeck EPIC with PT6A-52 Engines Mod Released

Very impressive mod! Thank you Bill for all your work on this. One problem I am having, however, is with the DC Generators. They don't work any more. The 'DC GEN' annunciator lights remain on and the DC meters on the overhead remain at '0'. Anything I am doing wrong? (I'm using the FSX version). Regards, David -
I have uploaded a PFPX file for the Premier 1A I have created, with data obtained from the POH. You can download it from Aerosoft's PFPX suport forum: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/files/file/4693-beech-390-premier-1a/ Feel free to try it out and report any issues here. Enjoy! David

Simulating derated turboprop engine performance in Flight Simulator is very difficult to do realistically, if not impossible. Sure you can play around with power settings in the aircraft.cfg file or the torque curves in the .air file to get high power at altitude but then you have to set the fuel flow scalar low to give you correct fuel burn (low) at high power settings at altitude. FSX (and I presume P3D) link fuel flow to power. Set 1500 ftlbs of torque and 2000 rpm at 5,000' in your favourite Carenado turboprop and note your fuel flow. Do the same at 20,000'. I'll bet you'll see fuel flows exactly the same. FSX does not model decreasing fuel flow with altitude in turboprops unless power also drops. That's why I prefer turboprop models without derated engines, such as the -5 here, or the KingAir C90B over the C90Gtx. As you climb, power available drops and so does your fuel flow (like the real aircraft). The -5 powered aircraft is still plenty fast! If you don't care about unrealistically low fuel flows at low altitude, in climb, or at less than maximum cruise then fine. But it's not for me. If P3D does better in this regard I would like to know! Cheers, David

The 'pitch index' is a guide on the ADI of where to set your initial aircraft pitch angle after takeoff. It is set using '+' and '-' click spots either side of the 'test' knob, lower right of the ADI. Hold your mouse there and a tooltip appears showing your current pitch index. This is described on p.28 of the systems.pdf. I have mine set to 13 degrees. But it is strictly a visual cue and would have nothing to do with your exaggerated pitch up after takeoff. I would check your pitch trim indicator (between yaw trim and roll trim wheels on the pedestal) is neutral.

Thanks but I found a third party livery in the Avsim library for my needs ( Qantas 747 RR). But it's disappointing to see them removed from PMDG's website. I'm sure I'm not the only one perfectly happy with these 'obsolete' products. First sales were suddenly cutoff, now the 'free liveries' are gone too, it seems. David CYXE

Hello, Yesterday I went to download some new liveries for my MD-11 and 747X. I cannot find them in the downloads|Addon Iiveries section of PMDG's website, where they used to be. Have they been moved somewhere else or are they gone forever? David CYXE

ARINC 424 and True PBN capabilties
torque2 replied to JC75's topic in PMDG 747 Queen of the Skies II
Thanks for posting this information, James. I was wondering if PMDG had finally udated their FMC logic to fly RF legs in this their latest release. I see they have not. I for one will be staying with my iFly 737 which, although it has some shortcomings vs. PMDG's 737NGX, can fly RF legs beautifully and without needing any bogus waypoints. They are fun approaches to fly! David CYXE -
I haven't purchased this program because I don't believe it will work easily for me. I almost never start my FSX with the default fsx.cfg file. I have half a dozen or so different *.cfg files I use, depending on what type of aircraft I plan to fly (single engine, twin prop, helicopter, jet,...). Each has a different control.ini file and other settings suitable for that type of flying. I start FSX with a custom desktop icon and an FSX command line switch (-cfg:). Can DX10 fixer be set to alter files other than the standard FSX.cfg? If not I assume I would have to manually switch my custom cfg files back and forth to fsx.cfg every time I made a change to or from DX10 mode. Will the fixer control panel recognize when I change FSX.cfg files? In other words, say I set DX10 mode active and the Fixer control panel sets up my FSX.cfg file appropriately. I then switch it with another of my cfg files. Will the Fixer control panel now recognize DX10 is not setup in this FSX.cfg (And vice versa)? Thanks in advance for any replies. David CYXE

I, too, finally got activated manually. But it took a second support ticket submission five days after the first to have my account activated. No explanation what the problem was, other than to 'check my spam folder' which was the first thing I did. David CYXE

Add me to the list of people frustrated by my inability to activate an account at Orbx. I submitted a support ticket four days ago, received an automated reply immediately, but am still waiting for a response. David CYXE

I had this same problem when I tried the 344 driver on my XP system a while back, which still has a GTX 560ti. The problem went away when I reverted back to my original XP driver (301). I'm curious how this turns out because my video card is over 5 years old now and won't last forever. I'm thinking of picking up 750ti or even a 960 as a replacement but that will require the newer 'problem' drivers. David CYXE

I believe anything nVidia with a name ending in '60' or lower should work - ie GTX 960, 950, 760, etc. The '70' and '80' models (ie GTX 970, 980) or any of the 1000 series I don't believe work with XP. The older the card you can find, the better, I would say. For Radeon I'm sorry I don't know. With your hardware performance should be more than adequate. David CYXE

I like the C90B. Flown it several times. Handles nicely and I like the analog gauges. I bought the C90GTx on sale back in January, but have yet to fly it. I haven't yet warmed to the proline avionics. And I'm a real stickler for accurate fuel consumption and the C90B's engines consume fuel more realistically at various altitudes in FSX than the derated engines of planes like the C90GTx, Piper Meridian, TBM850, etc. (only accurate at high altitudes). Welcome to the club! I bought the Blackbox A330 'prologue' V0.6 nearly three years ago. In three years it has progressed from V0.6 to V0.81. No sign of when the official 'V1.0' will be released, if ever. But at least there are signs they are 'working on it'. Buying an in-development product comes with no guarantees of when, or if, a final product will be released. David CYXE

Hi All, The mission compass display was designed back when monitors had standard 4:3 aspect ratio displays. Most everyone now has a widescreen monitor, so the mission compass appears stretched horizontally. With some detective work I have found a way to correct it. In your FSX gauges folder, look for the file "missionpanels.cfg" and make a backup. Open it in notepad and scroll down to the [Window00] section. Despite rather standard-looking entries, many are overriden by FSX internal code. For example, the 'window_size' and 'window_pos" entries are totally ignored. So no help in fixing the problem. I also discovered the "size_mm" value can be commented out completely with no effect. In fact, the easiest way to change the aspect ratio of the gauge00 in this window I found is to remove it (comment it out). Then I was able to change the compass display's aspect ratio simply by changing values on the gauge00= line. The third and fourth parameter then directly control the width and height of the gauge. For my 16:10 apect ratio monitor I made the following changes: [Window00] ;size_mm=98,123 // this line is commented out ... ;gauge00=Missions!POI, 0, 0, 98, 123 // original gauge00=Missions!POI, 0, 0, 82, 100 // My settings for 16:10. For 16:9 displays, try 75 instead of 82 I haven't tested this fully in other missions but in simple ones with just the mission pointer it looks much better. David CYXE

Thanks Mark, that was the problem. David

Problem solved! I discovered I have to re-select the radio button for my installation type (in my case FSX) after browsing to my FSX directory for the install to complete successfully. Now I just need to figure out how to keep the passenger and engine doors open (they reclose immediately) so I can complete my preflight! David

Hi all: Anyone else having trouble installing this product? I keep getting installer errors ("Object Reference not set to an instance of an object", "Access to path 'C:\users\...\Appdata\Roaming' is denied". This despite disabling any antivirus software and running the installer as administrator. The aircraft installs ok but the FMS hangs at the 'Loading Navdata' screen. Looks like the navdata is not being installed. I'm running Win7-64bit, FSX with Acceleration. Never had installation problems before. I have submitted a ticket to Carenado. David CYXE

fsx-ms A way to speed up FSX loading from a cold boot
torque2 posted a topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Hi All: Thought some of you might be interested in a discovery I made today on loading times for FSX from a cold boot to the 'Free Flight' screen. I recently upgraded to an SSD for my OS (Windows 7) and FSX. I, however, have several hundred GB of scenery data that won't begin to fit on the SSD so I have it still installed on a hard drive. But with the rest of FSX and W7 on the SSD I expected to see a significant improvement in FSX startup times. I did not. Maybe 30 secs at the most (3 mins before, about 2.5 mins after). Why? The only data not on the SSD is the scenery data. That must be what is still slowing my startup times. I tried some things. As a first test, I substituted the default scenery.cfg file from back when FSX was installed for my current one, expecting a big difference in startup times: No! Barely any difference! FSX was still reading lots of scenery before the 'Free Fligh't Screen would appear. Next I tried an empty 'Addon Scenery' folder (moved my current one outside of FSX and replaced it with an empty one, just like FSX newly installed). Some improvement but still slow (2:22). I have lots of scenery installed in the FSX folders, not just in the 'Addon Scenery' folder. So next I moved all those folders (only my payware/freeware folders, not any of the default folders) outside of the FSX folder structure and retested from a cold start: Big improvement! Startup time a mere 0:20!! So it appears FSX scans all the folders within the FSX file structure for scenery on startup, even when there is no corresponding entry in the scenery.cfg file. So next I put back my scenery.cfg file, but modified it with the new locations of all my scenery folders outside of the FSX main folder. This was very easy to do, just needed to add a "..\" in front of each local= entry for folders that were moved. Shut down the computer, waited a minute or so then restarted. My new boot time, with my 'normal' scenery active: 0:35!! A full 2 minutes quicker than before. I will add that the load times from pressing 'Fly Now' until the cockpit appears, ready for flight, do not change with this technique. So if you normally fly with most of your scenery active this method will not help you. But for me, with hundreds of GB of scenery data, and only a small portion of it active at any one time, it made a very welcome difference. Almost as good as a brand new installation! The only scenery folder I cannot move in this fashion is Orbx. That has to stay where it is. FTX have not provided a way to move it elsewhere. I have 68GB of data in that folder (linked to a hard drive folder). It is costing me 10 seconds in startup time! I could move that 68GB to my SSD but that would nearly fill it. If anyone knows a way to move it so FSX doesn't scan it on startup I would love to know! David CYXE -
I have done this merge and am very pleased with the results - CLS visuals along with Wilco's panel. In addition to replacing Wilco's model and texture files you also need to make several changes to Wilco's aircraft.cfg file, using the values from CLS. These include the [Views], [Lights], [Contact points], [TailHook] and [Exits] sections - ie anything that refers to the visual model. I also found the resulting model a little overpowered so I reduced the thrust_scalar from 0.98 to 0.90 but increased the fuel_flow_scalar from 0.6175 to 0.70255 to keep that aspect accurate. Hope this helps. David

Nope. If you click on any of these FS9 links you get an 'HTTP' file not found error, or a message 'this product is no longer in our catalog' David (CYXE)
