  1. Definately have to agree with you on this one. I know of many simmers, who enjoy and perform their occupation very well (which is usually not to do with aviation), and just sim due to what it offers and what it entails. I also know of simmers who absolutely love FS, thought they would love real flying, have gone for their TIF (Trial Introductory Flight) and were just not attracted one bit. The demographics of the Flight Simulation world contains people with a wide spectrum of aspirations and ambitions - All not neccesarily in the aviation industry! (and some involved in that such industry may say it's a good thing)
  2. The way some people act says otherwise... :He He:
  3. I was more talking about the way ET worked etc. May sound a bit hypercritical to my 1st post, but it is a well known fact that they have said the 'Advanced' edition is still coming for years now. It ain't no secret under guard at Fort Knox. Anyway thats all... I am sure most people will move over to FSX when the FSLabs comes out if they are that entertained by a 320 simulation, like I did with the NGX
  4. ..... We have heard it all before though, unfortunately. Up to you wether you want to believe it or not  :Talking Ear Off:

    position report

First off, what you saw isn't part of the ECL. What you saw is what is displayed when the COMM button the DSP is selected. Therefore, it is not part of the ECL (as ECL is pulled up by the CHKL button). It is the CPDLC/ACARS page (CPDLC includes ATC COMM bla bla bla etc.) Anyway, their have been plenty of threads regarding the implementation of CPDLC/ACARS into the 777. They have advised us that they are interested, but just not sure if/when it would be added and what it would be interfaced with in regards to other software (Hoppies, new VATSIM pilot client etc.) If you wan't your flight displayed on GoogleEarth, there is no need for this feature for you to do so. Just get an external 3rd party program like FS Flight Keeper.
  6. Looking at the scenario you mentioned, it would take no longer than 3 minutes to change the SID and then re-compute for a RLS2 (or OFP2). I noticed in EU, most airlines don't file SIDS however most do file STARS - most likely cause the STAR's aren't runway dependant, whereas the SID's are.
  7. Maddog for sure. Along with its excellent systems simulation, Shared Cockpit is just an awesome feature. Also has handy features such as EGPWS (if you don't know what that is, TERR button enables it on the NGX). Airsimmer, well..... I have nothing really to say. I have forgotten about my involvement in the ET team after I moved to FSX all those years ago. Those who continue to support them can do as they please, however I will keep my opinion on them reserved to stop starting an argument :He He:
  8. In Australia, while we still have high-level airways, our ATS provider decided they would introduce regions of UPR's (User Preferred Routes). Operators are now able to track DCT via numerous fixes rather than airways which could add extra track miles and not neccesarily take advantage of the wind. UPR's allow operators to track via traditional navaids, intersections and lat/long's as long as they fall into the 'UPR region'. Pretty neat IMO, and I also like the idea that the Irish came up with
  9. I have used it in the past, and to be blatanty obvious, it has nothing on PFPX. Some people may think differently, but thats my honest opinion after testing PFPX for a few months.
  10. In November, 11 fixed base sims (and one full motion 747 sim) will take off for a 7 day round trip around the world. Included are I think 6 737NG simulators. Each sim raises money for charity, and there are usually 50 or so other pilots joining the sims on each legs through the VATSIM network.
  11. Oh and just to think that Sincere kid was the one that wrote a love letter trying to get into the Wide Beta team....
  12. Here is a list of things TOPCAT doesn't do, that PFPX does; - Fuel calculations based on variables (such as GRIB wind etc.) - ETOPS/ETP/PNR calculations - Step Climb Calculations - Many more advanced flight planning features which are included in operators OFP's. TOPCAT is a solely designed to be a performance calculating application, where PFPX is solely a flight-planning based software. Two different kettles of fish.
  13. Data/web servers down only. Network itself is still operating @ 100%. Update from Luca Benelli (One of the IT chaps @ VATSIM);
  14. Varies from airline to airline, majority set V2 though. Pitch command target speed is V2 + 15. If current airspeed remains above target speed for 5 seconds, target airspeed is reset to current airspeed (limited to a maximum of V2 + 25).
  15. Just reached this topic on the 777CBT If I find any significant difference which haven't been mentioned yet (and warrants some interest), I will post it up.
  16. Going to try and catch a flight on this bad boy (or girl) when they are doing crew famil. flights with her. Pretty sure they might operate a SYD-CNS sector with her, so a good reason to escape up in the tropics for a few days
  17. Wait so getting shot down by a missile while on approach to Heathrow is unrealistic???? Hehe, never got over that. That was the first and last time I ever ran FSPax. Now it's just me, myself and I sitting in that virtual plane
  18. Since there has been some discussion regarding PFPX through this thread, some of you may find this interesting. ....and before any of you cheeky buggers try, the serial shown in the video will NOT work
  19. Video some of you may be interested in... Preparation is always good! (and before you try, the serial does NOT work).
  20. I probably wont do a line flight straight off the bat. Planning to a sim scenario as laid out in a FLTH (Flying Line Training Handbook) I have access to. While I see myself as a fairly advanced pilot, I still like to learn the systems inside and out before I do a full line flight so I can incorporate everything I have learned in the CBT, reading of the manuals and from a scenario in the FLTH.
  21. It's a shame the VC + VasFMC mod can't be ported over the FSX from FS9. The 3D modelling on the exterior is just amazing in that plane (and the repaints with reflections, bump maps etc. are just awesome).
  22. Sounds like maybe an OOM. Have you tried using task-manager to shut down fsx.exe rather than restarting your whole computer? Also you can check event viewer, and in the case it wasn't an OOM, it will show you the module which caused the crash.. Allows us to help you fix your issue easier and efficiently.
  23. Yeah, I know VA's taper towards the back of the cabin. Revert to 2-3-2 and then 2-0-2 when in line with the galley (when the original seat layout is 3-3-3). I assume most 777 layout would do the same due to the shape of the fuselage.
