  1. you need to go to fsx settings and maximise texture settings
  2. Mmm not angry just felt someone had to defend Aerosoft in this case. Seems to me developers lose no matter whether they share the development with the potential clients or say nothing until release.
  3. The attitude of some people in this hobby just amazes me. Aerosoft as far as I can see have been up front about what is happening re the A320 extended. They even listed the problems which had to be rectified before they could release it. And for all their trouble, they get stupid outburts from people about playing games. I can see why PMDG and others say nothing until it is released. As for Dr Orthopaedic surgeon, I hope you know how to go in and replace a knee. It has taken enough years of training to get there. Anyone whi knows about writing code for software programmes knows that it is not always straight forward. A change in one sub-programme can cause unexpected results in the running of another sub-programme when compiled. To moan over a few days delay is just pathetic. I will get off my soap box now
  4. AES isn't just moving jetways. I also use FS9 so those airports which are both FS9 and FSX only require the one set of credits. So it suits me.
  5. Geddy_2112 you aren't alone on this one. I will be passing on Vancouver as well. I don't fly into default airports either and only use addon airports. With other developers continuing to use AES, I won't be short of destinations to fly to around the world. I respect FSDT's decision and I have made mine

    GE, RR or PW?

RR engineering is great and I love the rumble they make starting. However, you have to wonder about the quality of their component manufacture considering some of the high profile failures over the last few years
  7. I have never used GSX so can't comment on it. However, I use AES and I have no problems with spending a little extra to buy credits to use it. It takes a lot of work by Oliver to make AES usable for different sceneries as each gate is mapped for pushback etc. Also AES has evolved considerably over the years and will be developed further. Interesting that FSDT aren't going to allow AES for Vancouver. Oh well, I will now remove it from my planned purchase list.
  8. The rumbling sound of the engines starting is great. I love that part
  9. this jet looks too complicated to me. What happened to the good old days when all you needed for nav was a compass, clock and sextant?
  10. Bruno For ypur information, the former CEO of Qantas confirmed after the announcement that they had selected the B787, that the EU had made the offer. And yes the EU does interfere with negotiations. BA buying A320 series aircraft is a case in point. You will note I said you can CURRENTLY fly. The Emirates deal does not take affect until April 2013, subject to regulatory approval.
  11. One of the problems Qantas faces is that the unions, particularly the three largest representing Qantas employees, continue to live by enlarge in a world long gone. Like all ful service legacy airlines, in days gone by, they could offer conditions of employment that they were able to pay for due to limited competition and they could charge accordingly. Such things as pension schemes that in todays world are unaffordable and hence BA's several billion pounds hole in their scheme and similar problems with American airlines pension schemes. Also working practices affect the number of staff required per flight and adds to the cost base but bizaarly the unions don't insist on the same practices for other airlines in Australia. If you compare airfares between Qantas and other airlines in direct competition on international routes, you will usually see that Qantas is the most expensive. The fact that Qantas still made a large loss on their international services is telling but seems to have been ignored by the unions. They also seem to forget that for the airline to invest in the toys they like to play with, the company needs to make a profit. Qantas tends to buy its aircraft through cash flow rather than leasing. Another issue is permitted routes into Europe. The EU has only allowed Qantas limited access to European destinations. They currently fly to London and Frankfurt. Previously they have flown to Rome and Paris. Due to EU restrictions, they were only allowed to fly to Paris 4 days a week. Limited access restricted their ability to complete with Asian and Middle Eastern airlines who are able to fly to more destinations. During the competition between the A350 and B787, the EU said to Qantas, if you order the A350 we will increase the number of destinations and frequencies in Europe. The current situation where you fly to London on Qantas and then back track to other European destinations makes it a long trip and more expensive. With code shares, you can currently fly Qantas to Singapore (I think) and then fly Air France to Paris or fly Qantas to HK and then Cathay Pacific to Rome. The proposed agreement between Emirates and Qantas will be great for Qantas customers. It will also give Qantas the ability to consolidate and then expand from a position of financial strength. An interesting point, Qantas is one of the few airlines in the world with an investment grade credit rating. Management haven't always made the right decisions and given the benefit of hindsight probably would have done things differently. Overall the Qantas product is a good one and they have invested millions in product development and delivery. But at the end of the day, you need to fill the plane with fare paying passengers that at the very least cover costs.
  12. Not sure about the 2 programmes but there are quiet periods during the day, maybe you are landing during one of them
  13. In the sim objects folder there is a sub folder for aircraft. You should find the ai aircraft in there or they maybe a folder WoAI created when you installed their AI traffic. You can download the flightplan/aircraft/airports files from thefollowing link http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=167533
  14. No that file you copy the text and put it into the ai aircraft file. Where did you get the files?
  15. Its not just simply a case of importing those files into FSX. With the download were there three notepad files Aircraft_xxx.txt, Flightplans_xxxx.txt and Airports_xxx.txt?
  16. I fly from VC with AI. I construct my traffic files from the flightplans created by groups like AIG etc and use AIA, The Fruit stand, DJC, UTT, HTAI and FAIB etc who produce excellent AI aircraft. They look realistic with reverse thrust, spoliers and flaps. Looking at the pics at teh top, that AI model just looks cheap and nasty in comparison. Just my opinion
  17. Hey all Why do jets normally have a nose up attitude on approach and landing? I believe the answer is that as Ro said, the wing is designed for high speed and to be able to land at suitable airspeeds, the wing area has to be increased to allow for a slower speed and still generate sufficient lift to keep the aircraft airborne. So as the flaps are extended, there is a nose up pitch due to the increase in lift which is counter acted by trimming nose down, but there is still a distinctive nose up attitude. On approach the aircraft is descending towards the runway and the approach is controlled by pitch and power ie control the rate of descent. There are speed requirements as well, so they are all controlled by pitch and power. Closer to the threshold the speed has reduced and to maintain the rate of descent and speed the nose comes up a bit more and then as Ro said, flare at a certain height above the runway to arrest the rate of descent. The same principle of attitude + power = performance is just as relevant to other aircraft as well. Anyway thats what I was taught when I learnt to fly in the military and I hope it makes sense Craig
  18. The interesting thing about the mortgage crisis in the US is that George W tried to stop the lending to people who couldn't in reality afford to service the debt in his first term, but couldn't get it through the Democrat controlled congress. In his second term it was too late,. The damage was already done. As for the best place to live, I think home is where you make it. Where all your things are like your flightsim computer
  19. To make a proper comparison you need to firstly compare incomes for liek jobs. Then determine what percentage of your income goes on lifes necessities and include income taxes and other mandatory payments such as national insurance. Then you compare what percentage of yur income is left for discretionary spending. One thing you can't figure into your calculations is the quality of life. As for the US debt and the Greek debt. Whilst both countries have high debts, it is less of an issue in the US because of the diverse nature of the US economy which enables it to meet its debt obligations. The big issue for Greece is the poor financial management over the years which includes failing to put in place the processes to ensure that all taxes were collected.
  20. Did you actually overfly the previous waypoint? If not the waypoint will still be listed as next on the FMC and the aircraft will turn to fly back to it.
  21. 777Fan, You may have an answer to my question. I have FS9 on my hard drive and went to install fsx in a separate folder because I wanted to use the full 64 bit Win 7 and he 12gb RAM.However, when I install FSX, it copies a couple of files to the FSX folder I created but the rest of the files are loaded in the X86 microsoft games folder with fs9. How do I stop FSX installing this way without deleting FS9? Suggestions welocome from anyone. Craig
  22. Hi Rod My computer specs are:Processor i7 920 @ 2.67ghz, 3gb Ram, GPU - Asus GeForce GTX 460 1GB
  23. Hi I have recently bought the boxed disc version for FSX. I have installed the aircraft with anti virus off but when FSX is started, only parts of the aeroplane are visible, ie in the selection windon the fuselage is visble but no windows, wings but no engines , tail but only the right engine cowling. Start fsx and only an outline of the cockpit panels are visible. Also when initialising, the screen image shakes. Any ideas? The fsx default aircraft are fine. ThanksCraig
