  1. The comparison between the AXE and the FSL A320 is surely just stupid. The AXE is designed for the middle of the road hobby simmer where the FSL as I understand it is designed for those who want total functionality, and more importantly like the MJC DH8D, they have commercial customers in mind as a training product. So totally different markets. Just a thought Craig
  2. Hi Flew into LSZH today with low vis due to fog and mist etc. Amazing!!! Been flying around Europe last couple of days and didn't see any difference between ASE and ASN. But landing in ENZV was pretty good with the broken at 800 but Zurich did it for me Craig
  3. Hi Not sure if this is a PMDG or fsx issue. I have run both ASE and REX and am getting very strange wind behaviour. It veers, backs and does 180 deg changes in the space of seconds when in the cruise, climb and descent. I have selected wind smoothing and variance suppression in FSUIPC. Any ideas as to the cause and solutions? Also I have CH throttle quad and on takeoff I advance the throttles to 40% and then engage the A/T. It thrust advances to the programmed thrust level but when I move the throttle levers to the max it trips the A/T switch. Manual override is set to never in the setup. Any ideas to fix the problem welcome. Thanks Craig
  4. looks to me like a burst tyre has caused the other tyre to go and the shrapnel rubber has done the damage
  5. Believe it or not there are probably at least a thousand near misses or near hits as they should be called every week around the world due to a multitude of reasons. A point about the Überlingen mid-air collision, one of the Swiss controllers involved in the accident was murdered on his front door step in front of his children by a father of one of the children who died in the Tu154. very sad indeed.
  6. Thing is NDB and VORs still exist because not all aircraft have FMCs. Furthermore, it is not cost effective to install ILS approaches to every runway and so available instrument approaches are dependent on the volume of commercial traffic to that particular airfield. After all, user pays. Also re VORs and TACANs, not sure if current systems do it but they did use VORs etc as a check to confirm the accuracy of the IRS.
  7. I have a similar problem with the PMDG NGX recently where I have been taxiing along and then suddenly it tells me I have crashed. Same has occurred just sitting at the gate. Craig
  8. Yes checked the schedule. I thought they went back to October but apparently not. Craig
  9. It would be an Emirates aircraft probably codeshare with Qantas. From the end of this month Qantas will run its UK services via Dubai instead of Singapore and code share with Emirates not only from Australia to the UK, across the Tasman but also with the Emirates services to other European destinations. I guess in time as Qantas International recovers to profit, they may base some Qantas aircraft in Dubai for services to other European destinations such as Frankfurt. The current Frankfurt service will ceasein October I think. Craig
  10. This is an interesting thread. When Qantas and Emirates announced their proposed partnership, one of the issues raised was the issue of Israelis passing through Dubai on their way to Israel from Australia. There is a reasonably large number of Jews living in Melbourne who frequently travel to Israel and so it was an issue for that community, as they wanted to fly Qantas. When the question was put to Qantas about Israeli/Jews passing through Dubai the response was that they have checked and their would not be a problem. I wonder if the suggested Emirates route is in response to this market. Craig
  11. Thanks for the update Ro Glad to hear that all is working well. I worked on the new CAIRDE system from 2002-2004, testing and training the lead controllers how to use the system. Towards the end there was talk about IAA taking responsibility for a chunk of UK airspace to the north on a revenue sharing basis. Made sense that the one centre (Shannon) looked after the transition from continental to oceanic airspace. Rgds Craig
  12. wind on the atis is true as far as I remember as an air traffic controller. Mind you that was a few years ago and I am a lot older now lol Hi Ro, how is the ATC system working in Ireland these days? Heard of any probs with the equipment? Craig

  14. Well guys PMDG have been developing 3 aircraft concurrently so who knows what at least 2 of the next 3 products will be. One will be the DC3 or DC4 according to the Captain. So what the other two are, time will tell. As for past products, the Captain said that they didn't sell that many MD11, more than McDonnell Douglas, but not a huge success from a sim POV. I love it BTW lol. So there is nothing wrog with suggestions. Market research will determine the products developed. Craig
  15. Will Just been doing some research. Seems Qantaslink use QLK as the ICAO airline designator for the Dash 8s' and QJE for the 717. Mainline Qantas use QFA.But they use the IATA QF for all flights. I think the 4 digits differentiate the regional network from the mainline ops. International 1-399 Domestic 400+ The 6 series being for specials.
  16. Any flight number of 4 numbers starting with a 6 I think meets your definition Will. Don't forget Qantaslink have 4 digit flight numbers. Craig
  17. LatinVFR has released their version of KSAN. Looking at the vids on sim market it looks pretty good. It will be interesting to get feedback from users. Craig
  18. Qantas have been retiring their B767 aircraft slowly for a few years now. The RR powered (ex BA) are the next to go I believe. There are B744 following the same route. Interestingly, a company has plans to set up a dismantling facility in Alice Springs Craig
  19. I have experienced a similar event flying on a Qantas A380. There was a whistling type noise emanating from one of the doors and once we got above a certain altitude it stopped. The flight attendant said it was an Airbus thing and happens every now and then. I assume it has something to do with the pressurisation sealing around the door. So this guy has a private pilots licence. Perhaps a little knowledge in this case is dangerous. Firstly, if a 4 cm hole appeared, air wouldn't be rushing in, it would be rushing out along with other loose items in the cabin. Also, the oxygen masks would drop down above the seats. The crew wouldn't have continued at their altitude but would have descended below 15K. This is a beat up about nothing
  20. I quite like AES. It came out when nothing else was available and made the airport come alive in a lot of respects. I have never used GSX and have tended to only buy sceneries which have AES enabled, which includes a number of freeware sceneries. The beauty of AES is that it is already preprogrammed for pushback positions etc, so no playing about to configure it. And as one poster mentioned, it is only a couple of extra dollars on top of the scenery purchase price. The other point to make is that AES is developed by one person on a part time basis. I understand that FSDT developers work fulltime and therefore can be more responsive. I will probably get GSX for a couple of airfields which are not AES compatible but will continie to support AES . Craig
  21. Two possibilities here. If it is programmed into the FMC, the autopilot can fly it. If hand flying, you do a rate one turn which is a turn of 3 deg per sec. In this case, the actual bank angle to use is related to the aircraft speed. An easy calculation is TAS/10+7 or TAS/8+3. Using 180kts as an example, the AoB would be 25deg Craig
  22. Just tell vatsim you don't have the latest scenery therefore you can only use 14/32 Simples! Craig
  23. No I wasn't referring to you. There is obviously something in your setup that has caused your problems and I understand your frustration after many hours of trying to troubleshoot. What helps me to troubleshoot is to walk away from the computer and maybe a day later, just think about the problem and its amazing what solutions or probable causes come to mind. Works for me Merry Christmas
  24. No problems Have worked hard on my English language skills since leaving the UK in May lol
