  1. I have a 9800GTX and it's starts giving me issues at around 85C. But there is a program called rivatuner ( http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/ ) that will let you manually adjust the fan speed and of course OC the card. That has seemed to help me immensely with maintaining normal temps.
  2. Here's a link to a seperate thread with everyone's likes and dislike with addons they currently have or have had experiences with: http://forum.avsim.n...ns-do-you-have/Hope that helps, it gave me a couple of ideas. Personally, I just stuck with REX 2.0 at the moment. The textures are unbelievable and it comes with it's own weather engine. Probably not on par with Active Sky, but kind of want to save my money for a comp upgrade and of course the NGX.
  3. When you say Quad core are you talking CORE 2 Quad or i7? Also what OS are you using? If you're using anything other than a 64bit OS, 4GB is the max you'll be able to get any performance gain from. In fact, doubt you'll see any performance gain from FSX with additional memory anyway since it's CPU reliant.
  4. I agree. Wilco's maybe old, but it's a great simulated classic 737 series. I hate saying anything negative about a developer since it takes considerable resources to put out these aircraft, but I shudder to think of a CS 737 and I'll leave it at that.
  5. Click on the link below that Alexander supplied you in an earlier post.Ian,this likely is caused by a Windows 7 feature called User Account Control (UAC) and the location of your FSX installation. Make sure you always install and run FSX as administrator and don't install it into the Program Files (x86) folder. I suggest reinstalling FSX into another folder or even a seperate partition, if possible. It's important to install and run FSX always on the same user account, because FSX and a lot of add-ons store their settings in the \User\yourNamehere\ directory.
  6. Hah! Didn't realize the date of your post. :(
  7. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/316215-ngx-final-release-date-announced/
  8. I don't have your particular card, but one that's not too far off. I have a 9800GTX and can tell you the drivers, tweaks and Inspector helped immensely. Hope that helps you a bit.
  9. Tero,I could not help but notice your sig. Level D 757 beta team :( ....Hmmm I won't say anything.
  10. I agree and disagree Ryan. The i5 and i7 series K CPU's were developed mainly with overclocking in mind. That is, the cpu's multipliers are 'unlocked' making it much easier to overclock the processor. But I do agree with your analogy that if the CPU was specifically designed for OCing, then they would just create for the potential speed. Let me add one bit of info; it has been verified that the gains you receive from using an 'unlocked' i7 or i5 versus a regular i7 or i5 are pretty much negligible that is unless you do some extreme overclocking.
  11. A bit off topic, but I read that thread you posted Dan. I just added REX to my list of add-ons. I just had to after reading your post. I was trying to hold off until I upgraded this rig, but currently it seems to hold it's own.
  12. LOL Tim! Out of respect to the developer I wouldn't do that. But it's quite obvious with that post they made, they do not respect the passion and enthusiasm we all share for this hobby of ours. I'm sure in time they will realize it. Also that developer seems to be the only one who has produced a viable simulation of my favorite aircraft.
  13. I agree with you Jim. This program certainly started out as a game for all of us including MS, but tranformed into something much bigger. Wow! That's awesome! I agree, I've always believed a game has a beginning, a middle, and an end. That in itself sets a game apart from MSFS.
  14. I personally have been using MSFS since I was 11 or 12 (way back in 1982/83). Aside from my Father taking me to JFK to see planes landing and taking off as a child, I attribute MSFS for my fascination with Aviation. And now happy to say I've had a successful 20 years in the Aviation Industry which still continues today. Like many of you, I've watched this piece of software morph from a few lines and circles on the screen, to an almost virtual simulated world. This program has been part of my life for the last 28 years and I am not ashamed to admit, have become pretty passionate about it.Recently I came across a post (pinned mind you) on another developer's forum that really upset me. Actually if I had seen this post before I purchased their product, I never would have. That's how strongly I feel regarding the subject and contents of the post. The title of the post on the developer's site is "It's just a game!". Which brings me to the reason for this poll. Many of us sink a sizeable amount of cash into not only the computers we run this software on, but also add-ons that make the simulation experience that much more enjoyable and realistic. Not to mention the amount of time we spend on planning and carrying out our simulated flights as mentioned in a previous post in this forum. These reasons alone are good enough for me to consider this a hobby. Here are a couple of definitions of a hobby that I particularly agree with and probably describes the lot of us.A hobby is an activity that we engage in that involves some form of personal investment. Time and effort is invested in a hobby; it is not an activity that can be engaged in while completely detached. So my question to everyone is do you consider Flight Simulation a hobby or just a game?
  15. Same here, I'm exteremely new to it, but will give it a go round. Dan's tutorial was quite helpful. With two kids and a job that keeps me on the road, I'm not sure when I'll find the time to do it though. In any case Caribbean Airlines will most likely be my first stab at repaining and if it doesn't work out...may I humbly place an early request? :(
  16. You know Robert, not only am I looking forward to the realese, but now I'm looking forward to these minute details. The list you speak of will be a brilliant Post-Release thread.
  17. Greatly appreciative for the update Robert, thanks!.
  18. Congrats Matt! Enjoy him while he's small, they grow up real fast...literally in the blink of an eye LOL! My son's 9 and my daughter's turning 8 next month.
  19. I don't have their SCEL scenery, but did purchase their TTPP scenery (thanks for the advice Alex). It was well worth the money and I'm pretty sure SCEL would be too.
  20. Other developers out there can even learn a thing or two from your "Then" photos LOL! Thanks for the update Robert.
  21. I have a trick that I use so this sort of thing doesn't happen to me. When I'm 20 - 25 miles out from landing, I'll increase the sim rate temporarily to 8X, for like an instant and revert back to the normal sim rate. This in effect negates all the AI in the air and starts the clock again. Works every time.
