  1. Hello Steve, You helped me on this same aircraft earlier this year so I know it's not the aircraft. Eaglesoft Hawker 400XP. I retrofitted the VC panel with ISG1 EADI and the Proline 4 MFD. I can't quite pin down whether it is anything with DX10, ISG1, or just plain FSX. Parts of the guage, (speed tape and heading tape) do not show up at night in the VC. They work great at night in the 2d cockpit and work fine in the day in the VC. I downloaded 2.4 and re-read and troubleshot with the manual. Areas that I thought would pertain. Legacy shading, V2.0 Transparency etc. Nothing worked. I switched out the A320 EADI, and replaced that as well with ISG1 777 EADI to no avail. Same problems. I even gave the 8bit option a try and that didn't have an effect. Now I need to keep the legacy slider all the way to the right for my aircraft to work in DX10. I moved it a step at a time to the left and that did not help the guage work either. Just made the rest of the VC have problems. I have a question in over at ISG1 support just to confirm that Ernie's gauges are DX10 preview capable. My guess is they are. Im not sure what to do if anything can be done.   5. Question. Looking into Lionheart Lear 24. Says on the website that it wont work with DX10. BUT they sort of hint it will with quotes I think? Anyone know or know if it will work with fixer? I have it and I have a working capibility with fixer and with DX10. THANKS!

  8. I fly RW as well and I had been using the Saitek X52 twisty. Here is the odd thing. I have the Yoke but no peddals. LOL I fly a lot of automation in RW so I do in the sim world too. The peddals were not and still are not a high priority for me. Now with the yoke I see where it is getting to be though. I will be getting peddals. If I were you, I would get the yoke. I just got mine for fathers day and love it! If you get the Saitek yoke you can get extra knobs for the throttles from Madcatz as well. Also if you are FSUIPC savy, what you can do is download the current driver and software from Madcatz (Saitek) and you can no make use of the mode switch, which tripples what you can assign to all the buttons. With FSUIPC you can make even more use of buttons etc via mouse macros. (Mouse Macros simply trap what you do with a switch, after you name it, FSUIPC stores that new command in the same place all the other controls commands are). Add that all up and you now can assign up to about 6 commands to 1 switch on your controller if you do it right. Good luck.
  9. There is a way to download Steve's original DX10 patch here on AVSIM in the library. I was able to get my DX10 adjustments made with Steve's DX10 Fixer and with the Definitive guides here at AVISM. Google is your friend here. If you go over to the combat simulator forum there is a guy helping people with DX10 issues. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/forumdisplay.php?92-DX10 You can see here where many of us have done a lot with DX10. I like it simply because it does make things smoother. THERE IS NO PERFORMANCE BOOST. Just to save you time if you think there is. Only a good bit smoother run. Keep in mind however that if your FSX computer setup is not stable and you get crashes etc, DX10 does not fix systemic problems or anything like that. Stable in DX9 Stable in DX10 visa versa. So you want to take a few moments to decide if it is worth the trouble to make the move over. NickN, who is one of thee most respected FSX guru's both hardware and software, does not use DX10. Google NickN's Bible and there is a WEALTH of setup, hardware, software, how to's etc. He gives his opinion over there. You can find him over on SimForums. Here is a great little tutorial on how to install a driver I found helpful. If you have the means, and I will probably do this myself, is to migrate over the P3D V2. Lot's of simmers are having good results.
  10. I'll add a little more fun to this. Even though there are VNAV minima on the charts, not too many operators have the authorization to use VNAV anyway. We have to use LNAV only as that is all our Operations Specifications allow at this time. Most VNAV minima will bring you down 250 feet AGL. ILS (Radio Based) will bring you down most often to 200 feet agl. So it's very true, the ILS is assigned most often in lower weather. Most of the time you will get the approach lights and when you do, most Ops Specs will allow you to then decend down to 100 feet ABOVE the touchdown point, allowing us to then get in when weather is REALLY crummy. 200 ' and 1\2 mile vis. Most airlines (FAR PART 121 operators) have the same abilities, so for FSX purposes it might add some realisim to remember the decend to 100 feet above the Touch Down Point rule when you get the approach lights. Makes for some really great flights.
  11. Yep that is correct. Two flights with ASN demo. All I can say is I will be buying it. I really like the textures AS gives. ASN loads a lot faster. Xgauge is very nice. Reminds me of Avidyne in RW. Nice to have Destination WX too.

  15. Hi Kyle, ya Im thinking I missed something. I have been looking for reviews on Next from users of Active Sky. So what are your main THREE features in your opinion where Next Stands out. When I say I didn't notice I am thinking I probably did not give it proper testing as I should have. I was probably chasing down some other issue to busy to look close enough. So if you would what are your three or four. Thanks!
  16. LOVE IT! I may in fact have to try something like this. Never thought to do so. It does have holes just for that. Yep I agree. I may get pedals just to try it. But like you said to each... I agree. Hey question. Can you achieve SMOOTH braking with the pedals? I mean do they brake pedals act as an AXIS or a button? If Axis then I can see them being a good purchase. My issue with the X52 as well as the X55 is that you are STUCK flying Right Seat. That is how the power levers are set up. If you want a realistic left seat experience the "left handed" throttle controller just did not do it for me. That is why, I like the yoke with the power levers that come with them. By the way MADCAZ is sending me more lever knobs so I can put two throttle knobs on the left two levers and something else on the third one. That way my son can fly his single engine jobs and I can fly my jets.
  17. YEP!! Great advice. Every one of these posts is great! If you are going to fly Boeings SKIP the pedals. Boeings are taxied with a Tiller. A tiller is WAY different than pedals. Also there is the registered version of FSUIPC that you can purchase. What is it? It is an awesome program that allows you to assign different commands to your buttons, levers, etc that you use on your flightstick or yoke or both. It took me a while to figure out, however I have 3 commands on one switch. How that is done is too much to explain here. I have the X52 that I purchased before the HOTAS came out. After all these years it still works almost like new. I also have the Saitek yoke. Those two can be used together which I do. You can also use the Mode Switch on EACH of those controllers and you can define controls using the programming software that comes with each. What I did however is I went to MADCAZ (Saitek Page) and downloaded the very latest drivers AND programming software. With a little experience I was able to use FSUIPC and the programming software to not only assign all the commands I need but I was able to make my own commands via FSUIPC and operate switches that FSX has no commands for. Rather cool once you get the hang of it. So every button switch lever etc is useful on both controllers. Ha you can even have a throttle lever mean two different things. For instance. I have my Prop Controller not only act as my reverser, but at certain positions it brings my gear up and down. So the bottom half is my reverser, and the upper half acts as my gear lever. All this is done via FSUIPC which all flight simmers ought to use in my honest opinion. It just gives you such lattitude with your controllers. Way more than standard FSX gives. I do not use rudder pedals. My philosophy on them is that I do most of my flying in the air. Not on the ground. JUST ME. I also fly jets where Yaw Damp and Rudder Boost plus differential power for x wind operations pretty much negate the need for pedals. I use my X52 stick as my tiller for taxiing. Hope this helps. That is how I do it. But as the other guys have all posted, there is absolutely no right way to do it. You really need to think about what you want to do and then go from there. Some guys are GA Single Engine prop guys, some guys are Tubeliners, some corporate jets. The altitude in which you plan to fly. Active Sky Next for high altitude ops. I understand REX is far better for low ops. Add on scenery is a serious frame killer so if you don't mind choppy frame rates but rather need to have a city look like your city to the enth degree then get that local area. If you are a Cross Country guy and go from town to town city to city, skip the add on scenery. See what we are saying here? Define what you want and what you wish to get out of FSX and go from there. Take care and good luck. To answer your last. I don't know how the brakes work on rudders. That said though, again with FSUIPC you can use a slider style axis on your X55 or X52 to get rather realistic braking action. Again. Where are you going to do all that braking? With FSUIPC I can get better results setting power as there is alot more fidelity you can achieve with it. So if I go min throttle, my planes all creep to a stop. I do not have to "ride" the brakes as it were. Take care.
  18. Cannot comment on REX at all. Heard a lot of great things about REX in the form of textures. THAT SAID, Active Sky fairly recently updated their textures to include a lot more stuff. My best description as I want to be brief. I have been using AS now for about 2 years. I too tried ASN. I was not impressed enough with any amount of change from AS to ASN. I might have missed something? ASN is much more of a true weather engine ONLY and I understand you have to go back to AS for AS textures. So it sounds like you might be set just fine with REX Textures and ASN for the weather engine. Another feature I like about AS is that it is not a frame killer, well, unless you want it to be. There are a lot of methods you can use to lighten the load so to speak. Cloud layers etc. You can ask for less intensive cloud structures as well. A lot of the above also depends on how you fly. Weather intensive? Again, with AS you can set it up to be rather easy on the FPS. Now. What REALLY did it for me is this. I happen to be a RW Hawker 400XP driver. Wanting to get the engine simulation to be, well at least in the ballpark of reality, I set out to try to edit first the aircraft.cfg, then the airfile. Learned a bunch and will continue to pursue that endeavor more, but here is the cool part. I had a hunch that, after some testing, that if I were to use Active Sky I might get better results. I reloaded the stock Aircraft.cfg, went on several 1.5 to 2.0 flights and was simply AMAZED at how better the numbers rolled out. Keep in mind I have the RW type rating, charts, AFM, etc. The ONLY thing I am still working on is the fuel flow, however I will get it nailed here shortly as my numbers get closer and closer. With that sort of accuracy I am HOOKED for quite a while on AS maybe ASN as I should probably give ASN another try. Hopefully this helps. To answer your most recent. Once you load AS you will want to go and choose all of your textures. Water, Roads, Taxiways, Runways, Moonbeam... YES Moonbeam. LOL. That will take a while. Once you have done that, the only other thing AS will do, is if you load a Flight Plan into AS it will ask you if you desire textures for that particular route. I do this and it seems to produce stunning results. Beyond that, with AS you pick out your, textures, it will load them in a more or less "one and done" sort of manner. IF you decide you really get nauseated by water you thought would be nice, you can go back and change it to something else without having to do the whole process again. Simply just the water rebuild. So that's my two cents on AS. I have no experience with REX. Good luck.
  19. That and it made and makes the flying part a lot less real as well. So Active Sky for now. Not sold on Next. Using Active Sky I am amazed at how close to real world things are.
  20. Thanks for the tip Stans. All I had to do was to adjust the fuel flow scalar from 1.0 to 1.2, use Active Sky and that did the trick. We rule of thumb plan fuel at 1500 lbs first hour 1200 there after and we are good for realistically a 3.5 hour trip max. Well first hour fuel was 1525. I have the RW charts and Simuflite Manual, so the performance programming is spot on. I grabbed a copy of AirWrench and I am learning how to use it. Funny how it turns out that all I needed was a realistic weather generator.
  21. Interesting update. I found out that the guy who did the programming for the BeechJet also flew the Beechjet. What is really interesting is that I took a look at the RAT, SAT, and ISA that I was getting on the climbouts and developed a hunch. FSX Weather engine DOES in fact leave a lot to be desired... So I fired up Active Sky, and used the High Altitude Mode. Funny how the engines now behave almost EXACTLY like in the aircraft. The only problem is the the fuel flows on the fuel FLOW gauge are way off. I haven't flown long enough yet to determine if it is a gauge thing or if I am actually getting those burns. (Posted just incase anyone is follwing this)
  22. Well had some success with scalar. However I had the most success with fuel flow gain verses the other parameters. I am actually very close to the feel anyway of how the engines behave. Usually in the aircraft we hit slightly over N1 of 104% on our takeoff runs. I have it where in the sim I hit 104.8 at present time.
