You should try and maintain a similar test when overclocking. Since the 748 is using same cockpit/VC as the 744, I know that these are much less fps intense than CS products which like to eat frames with their eye candy. Pick one or the other, just so we can get a rough idea of how overclocking increments effect performance.

Goodmorning all,3 years ago, I met and worked along side the forum member chris493. He was a very good man, and a very close friend. I really don't know how else to inform those of you who knew him on here. I regret to inform you, that a few days ago, Chris was killed in a motorbike accident in Perth, Australia. I've spent the last few days supporting his family and fiancée via phone calls, and will fly out to Perth tomorrow evening for his funeral.I'd like us all to remember Chris for what he was to this community. Case too small for graphics card, get a HAF X or similar full tower case to fit 580. PSU is pretty low standard. You don't want to skimp on this. Get something like a Corsair A series or HX 750+. If going Coolermaster, get the Silent Pro or Silent Pro Gold. A wireless card is only necessary if you can't connect via Ethernet. All motherboards have built in ethernet. Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit.

Isn't 7 monitors a touch overkill? However, do what Gary said. Go to newegg and look at all the boards. Pick one that supports 3-way SLi. Just a tip that SLI does absolutely nothing for FSX without very extensive tweaking.

Probably just an unlucky CPU. I think I was lucky enough to get a great overclocker.

On the board, there will be 4 DIMM slots, 2 of one colour, and 2 of another. To run in dual channel, your 2GB sticks should go in the same coloured slot. So if 4GB, only one colour should be taken. You need to set the speed via the bios. Make sure your system is stable at 1333MHz RAM, then OC your CPU to whatever you want, and make sure it's fully stable. Then change the RAM voltage to 1.5V, and boot at 1333MHz. All should go well and it should boot into windows. Then go to bios and change the RAM speed to 1600MHz. Boot and make sure it runs well at 1600MHz. Where it asks for ram timings in the bios, enter the. Timings shown on the sticker on the ram.Keep testing and booting to make sure the ram is working. If it doesn't boot at 1600Mhz, increase the ram voltage a small amount. Keep doing this (increase voltage, then boot) until your ram runs at 1600MHz with the correct timings, and boots into windows. I would recommend you don't exceed a voltage of 1.6V.

Hi,This system will run it, but not at decent settings. I would doubt it could handle complex addons, and traffic will probably make it struggle a bit. However on medium settings, it should run alright.

Install FSX and everything before overclocking.

965 is a better option than what you have at the moment. Just make sure it fits your motherboard specs. I recommend a GTX460 graphics card, or if you can wait, a GTX560.

I run Captain Sim addons at fairly good performance with max settings. Really good performance with PMDG AC. Don't have the F1 Mustang personally, but CS is pretty hard on frames. See sig. for other addons.

You only need Marvell drivers if it is a marvell controller, otherwise use the Intel drivers.

Nope. Just make sure it's fully booted into windows etc before restarting. In the week i've had mine, i've restarted about 100 times with OCing, and FSX installations etc

If youre on Win 7, just leave it alone and dont worry about it, as many have said already, 7 has inbuilt TRIM support. It's doing its job silently in the background.

+1 on Sandy Bridge. I'd recommend returning the card also, and getting a 470 or waiting for the 560.

With my REX HD clouds (max res.) and all the trimmings, SQ only reduces my perfomance a small bit, but does look very nice indeed. I'm still trying to compare 8xS and SQ to see if the change is worth the small performance decrease. The 580 handles it lovely. Probably a 5-10% decrease.

Actually, using 8GBy removes all chances of OOM's, and is better all up. I've seen my FSX use 3.8GB+. With the OS and any other programs (REX Weather engine (WASys) for example), it will all add up well past 4GBy... Nope, just REX, GEX and UTX
