  1. I've been flying FSX consistently during the last few weeks to give it a fair go .. and can see some of it's good points while flying payware (Flight1 KingAir 200, Aerosoft Twotter, Carenado C90B, ORBX FTX, REX + & EZDok) .. when I get to actually fly (and getting a consistent 30 FPS while flying .. I've got it pegged in Settings and it rarely deviates while flying). I've tweaked and tworked .. following most of the recommendations (particularly the one suggested by Flight1 .. without which I just got a black screen with the KingAir), but MOST of my flights end in a crash of some sort (PC or FSX). This gets extremely frustrating and I've come to the conclusion that learning FSX is mainly an exercise in learning how that venerable program works on a modern OS/PC. I have aged considerably during this exercise and my arteries don't enjoy the experience . So tonight I'm going to get a couple of hours flying my hassle free X-Plane .. to sooth my frazzled nerves and get my flying fix of simulated flight ... in the SAAB, a soothing balm for my senses. Cheers! P.S. The reason I've posted this in the FSX forum, is because many of the hints and tips for FSX, I've gleaned or followed from here ..the source.
  2. I own and fly FSX and X-Plane .. and the SAAB is flawless . Regarding a post above regarding lack of airports .. there're solutions available from payware, to freeware, auto airports building utilities or you cab build your own with WED. You should not have to suffer a desolate airport in X-Plane. FYI I fly regional routes in Australia and had to laugh because my FSX home airport has absolutely NO buildings lol (YTWB) ... most of the other regionals I fly to are also deficient on that score (in FSX).
  3. Hi Jim, my understanding is that .Net 1 - 3 are already integrated in the OS for Windows 7 .. so you only need to 'install' 4 and above. Cheers,
  4. The default sounds in both sims are crappy. Most of the newer crop of payware aircraft come with their own sound suite. FJS, X-Aviation, Carenado, VMax .. etc. I think STMA do as well .. but can't be sure ...
  5. I believe there's a way to fix that in plane maker. Something about terrain elevation corrections if I recall and mapping runways to terrain ... but I haven't the foggiest where that information is!
  6. You couldn't be more wrong ... I've used with both HDR and without, and the texturing for this plane is the most true to life I've seen in XP. Clean and plastic? Not on your nelly ... it's superb! There's finger grime marks all around the various switches ... very authentic. However, it's not only in the graphics region where the SAAB shines ... I had my right engine fail on me while I was impatiently trying to get in the air .. how did I know that something was wrong (almost immediately?) ... I had the engine noise in my right earphone go strangely quiet and my plane began straining and shuddering slightly to the right! Very believable ... this is a beautiful model ... LES and X-Aviation have done the XP10 community proud. Currently the LES SAAB in my opinion is without s shred of doubt THE BEST aircraft in X-Plane! (Hey .. I love turboprops! ) P.S. Don't get me started on the menu system either ... it leads the way in XP for functionality. Especially the slaving of views of the specific cockpit region required to the checklist ... now that is downright inspired! Makes learning the complex startup procedures a cinch. If you're an X-Planer (and even if you're not) this plane should be savored and explored! Cheers! P.S.S I truly hope that AVSIM will post the SAAB event on the forum ... it jolly well deserves to be there  .
  7. Leel, the real SAAB 340A were not fitted out with a GPS. They flew VOR/NDB. AFAIK an un-intrusive GPS is only added to this SAAB, so people can fly RNAV routes .... so don't look for a fully modeled Garmin ... this plane is promised to be as faithful a model to the original as LES could make it. BTW .. the plane is just fantabulously AWESOME! I'm flying it as I post this!
  8. I can install the KLN90 into all my planes EXCEPT the AN24 from Felis .. neither his instructions nor the instructions in K90 manual (they're different) work ... I would love to be instructed otherwise! STop the press .. from Goran I just saw this ... The vapor is condensed and the first drop is about to fall! Woooot!
  9. I think the FlythisSim range of products are flawed in that you must purchase for an aircraft type .. so you can't use a GS430 except for specific aircraft groups because they actually integrate the unit into a 2D panel themselves. This is both expensive and impractical imo :(
  10. There's always the KLN90B that's offered on the EADT site .. it's pretty much fully featured (albeit older) and will run 64bit mode with the appropriate SASL 64bit plugin. Unfortunately it's a bit involved to install ... in fact I find it to be a royal P.I.T.A! I've managed to install it on the JS32 .. it used to install easily on the AN-24 but I can't for the life of me get it to display on that aircraft. Regarding the future .. I'm going by this post .. @ XA.
  11. AFAIK the GPS in the SAAB isn't a fully featured affair (I don't think it was ever meant to be because it's not technically 'realistic' for that aircraft .. I could be wrong!) .. so don't expect an X-Reality Garmin430 type of gadget .. it will allow you to follow a RNAV route .. just like the default XP Garmin does . I think that the biggest issue people may have with the default XP GPS is that it only offers a very simplistic subset of what the Garmin 430 is capable ... so people view it as an inadequate toy. This perception is probably exacerbated by the availability of the XReality Garmin flavours that do provide near complete functionality (they're actually simulators in their own right) .. unfortunately only available as 32bit software and there's been no indication that they will develop for XP 64 bit ... Yes .. it would be nice if someone eventually creates a fully featured GPS in XP .. and I think that will happen one day!
  12. Regarding the MU-2 .. thanks anyway JComm and Ralf ... unfortunately it appears to be the only plane I have that refuses to cooperate. Your tips did work JComm, to a point. Once I'm climbing or cruiing there is still a small tendency to roll to the left ... but it is a continuous inexorable movement that eventually has me spiralling down to the left if I leave it uncorrected. In other words I'm still unable to fly 'hands off' even after the tweaks! The JS32 and the AN-24 are NOW a dream to fly though! (post tweak)
  13. But ..? You've already mentioned that FSX doesn't do multi with engine failure ... even the mighty PMDG 777! I do recognise what you're saying though. I too experience a flight simming induced existentialist melt-down on occasion!
  14. Thanks LA .. you were actually the catalyst for my developing perspective .. way back when .. and I believe we all got a little hot under the collar .. I owe you an apology! Friends?
  15. For Goran ... :Big Grin:   :im Not Worthy: @MdMax, PWJT8D & Scotchegg ... ROFLMAO !! Droll .. very droll!
  16. Goran, I've been thinking about this a lot lately, does the SAAB take into account the excessive torque induced roll in it's FM? There's been a fair amount of discussion about this recently and I've been swayed to think that there's a valid point to consider ...
  17. Well .. I used to be a firm believer in the "Torque is modeled correctly" school of thought, but now I'm not so sure .. in fact now I'm trending the other way, with the caveat that (as jcomm's pointed out elsewhere) it's not necessarily torque itself that's modelled incorrectly, but some other limitation in the FM that sets up the torque modelling to have an exaggerated effect on the aircraft's handling. As I don't have a scientific perspective (not even basic maths and physics .. ), I rely a lot on those boffins who do in order to form my opinions, and also on people with real world perspectives to draw upon. It's not real understanding .. it's more of a faith thing lol! I'm hopeful that this issue will be addressed sooner, because like JComm has said .. this is a flight simulator, and like JComm I sometimes experience an existential meltdown when I consider that the sim I'm flying is a inadequate representation of reality. So .. @ the moment I have 4 sims on my PC ... X-Plane, FSX, P3D and DCS ... and I drift between each as my dissatisfaction with any one set of issues becomes too great to bear. P.S. I have completed the following fixes .. and they work to my satisfaction .. 1. JS32 - CW/CCW fix 2. AN-24 - I think was already CW/CWW on my release .. 3. the default C90B - the Torque fix applied to both engines work like a charm .. so does the CW/CCW fix (obviously not both at the same time!) 4. FJSim Dash 8 - CW/CCW ** The MU-2 - doesn't matter which tweak I use .. this plane behaves erratically so I'll keep flying it the way I used to .. but my new perspective has spoiled the experience for me! .. and then for a break I also fly a lot in my brand new Flight1 KingAir B200! Now REALLY I wish they would do some of their magic in X-Plane .. once the torque stuff is sorted .. or design it specifically to behave as it should. Cheers, Kris P. P.S.. We should ask en masse @ Frooglesim's Youtube channel for him to push the question to Austin and Ben .. hopefully he has more traction?
  18. Thanks JComm and Ralf .. much appreciated! .. Yes, I've done the plane-maker tweak.
  19. PMDG .. first release product for X-Plane .. With regards to FSX; I've only just got my 2nd payware plane and 2ns payware addon  .. so still a bit of exploration for me, the amount I spend being the only limitation now! Cheers! Kris P.
  20. I started a topic requesting a comparison between the Carenado B200 and this one (a legitimate ask IMO), so you could be referring to that topic. My primary reason for that was because I actually already own the Carenado C90B .. and while it's 'OK' .. it doesn't really rock my boat. I took the advice proffered and went with Flight1 ... and I glad I did ... even though the price is a bit steep. You're right .. the two are on different ends of the scale as far as system depth and (dare I say) quality. I then got EZCAM as well .. and now my FSX experience is (slowly) improving ... ^_^
  21. That looks amazing Andras ... I look forward to it! Cheers, Kris P.
  22. Well ... I'm not an experienced flyer of the Flight1 B200 as I only bought it yesterday afternoon ... but so far I'm absolutely loving it. It appears to have a fair bit of depth to it and I think I'll be spending a lot of time in the B200. I also fly a bit of FSEconomy and will be looking forward to flying this bird on FSE.
