  1. Yes .. I should also add the AN-2 from Red Eyes (X-Plane) and the Aerosoft Extended Twotter (FSX!) .. both very much favourites of mine! I know the Twotter is FSX .. however I live in fervent hope that Aerosoft will soon port this wonderful aircraft to X-Plane!
  2. The freeware version of the B58 is also very good (by awall86) ... actually .. very VERY good
  3. I have the 380 series of Peter's. In my opinion the flight modelling of Peter's aircraft are second to none. In this area it's very impressive, they have an extremely sophisticated feel to them. That said, most of what you're paying for happens under the skin (so to speak). His 380 at least is very light on the systems that you have to interact with as the pilot ... and the dedicated FMC is an outgrowth from the default XP one; clever but very limited compared to what is currently available elsewhere. My ideal airbus would be Peter's flight model with cockpit and systems by someone else.
  4. As a paying customer, it's been my consistent experience as well.
  5. From Wikipedia: General aviation (GA) is all civil aviation operations other than scheduled air services and non-scheduled air transport operations for remuneration or hire.[1] General aviation flights range from gliders and powered parachutes to corporate jet flights. The majority of the world's air traffic falls into this category, and most of the world's airports serve general aviation exclusively.[2] So technically a C90 wouldn't be GA either .. if it's used on a scheduled route for remuneration or hire (and I'll bet most of them are). The way I understand it is that it's not what it is but how is it being used. The SAAB, C90B, JS32, MU2 and the PC-12 are my favourites. While I've listed the SAAB (and it's definitely a favourite), I don't fly it as much as I'd like because of fps issues on my rig. It's either going to be a plane I fly more when I get a rig that can deal with it .. or I'm VERY hopeful that the patch will improve the fps issues that I have with it.
  6. I've noticed all sites have been touchy over the years about sim comparisons ... It all depends on how these discussions mature over time and on the history of previous discussions in this area I guess. The Org is still one of the indispensable sites for X-Plane information that I visit regularly (among others).
  7. ... Yeah, we should start a FAQ ... how to enjoy flight sim polygamy without tarnishing your reputation .
  8. You can change your subscription settings via editing your profile ... which is the user's responsibility. Notification Preferences Privacy Settings Send me news and information Enabling this option will add you to our mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time. ... or ... you can hit the unsubscribe button at the foot of the email. I don't see it as spam (unsolicited email) ... I can't remember if the option was 'asked' of me when I signed up, but I guess I accept the fact that when I agreed to the Org contract to become a member I accepted that I should check my profile settings to ensure I could have the experience that I wanted within the constraints of the Org's agreement with me as a new member.
  9. Apollothethird, I had a look at the thread you mention and I didn't see anyone trying to sell you product. I'd add that the advice given was generally sound advice and presented in a neutral and informal manner. Barbarossa provides a lot of freeware and I also saw nothing but a genuine desire to help you. The tone of your post here is unfair and an untrue representation of the situation (as I read it anyway).
  10. As Jspahn said, you just need to remove the NOAA plugin ... you don't need to touch Python. I fly a fair bit in FSE and it uses Python as well. I have however removed the NOAA weather system thingy because it was doing funny things to X-Plane weather ... as you've noted .
  11. It is awesome, but that's an understatement. The SAAB is the most comprehensive aircraft currently in X-Plane IMO. Very immersive and everything Jesse said. I'm impatiently waiting for the update ... because once I can get decent FPS I'll probably fly little else. At the moment I take short jaunts and treat it as focus-ed modular training missions targeting specific training outcomes. No hyperbole, but in this plane like in no other, I really feel I'm in the cockpit .. especially landing, coming around on short finals, it's an experience that is truly visceral. It literally makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end ... and it feels so real that I can almost smell the avgas. Cheers, Kris P.
  12. I can categorically state that I have never-ever experienced censorship of any kind, nor have I been made to feel uncomfortable talking about one of my favourite aircraft; the Carenado C90B on the X-Pilot forums. That dynamic does not exist there. I find AVSIM to be of a similar vein, and find a good cross-section of information about the 3 different sims here. Cheers, Kris P.
  13. I believe the best place for a dedicated X-plane forum would be with X-Plane.COM itself because X-Plane.com is interested in one thing only; to promote X-Plane. The level of impartiality necessary for me to feel absolutely comfortable discussing all aspects of X-Plane, would require that a site must only have the singular purpose to promote and be a knowledge store-house for X-Plane. Every other site that I'm aware with X-Plane forums (including AVSIM), also maintain a store that sells flight sim products (X-Plane or otherwise). Regardless of whether a site is benign or not in the maintaining of its vested interests, it is always possible that directions might change in some different future dynamic. Cheers, Kris P.
  14. How do you know they haven't tried other sims? Where is the supporting evidence that makes it 'best in class'? I'm genuinely curious. You're conclusion is flawed because your data is unverifiable. You assume that because the performance isn't similar to your 'old shoe' then it must necessarily be wrong .
  15. I think we might all interpret the 'flying on rails' comment from a personal perspective. To Larry it may mean that the poster is endorsing the torque bug .. which is quite obviously not a good feature. Personally (as an X-Plane flyer) I'm now very happy that Larry makes his observations and of course I have a lot of respect for Uwespeed and Murmur as well ... Remember it is always good that there is the voice of caution in the wings. In the interests of this discussion I'd like to provide my interpretation of what "flying on rails" now means to me (yes .. Larry has succeeded in expanding my perspectives  ). For me comparing the Carenado C90B in FSX and the same plane by the same manufacturer in X-Plane .. I can say that the FSX C90 feels like it is "flying on rails"; while the same plane in XP feels inherently different without the torque bug! It is not more difficult to fly .. I can fly hands off in both no problems .. it's just that the X-Plane one recreates that ball in the pit of my stomach feeling that I get when I'm flying in a real airplane or helicopter (I did a LOT of flying as baggage in my previous life!). Having said that .. the Aerosoft Twotter Extended with EzDok for FSX definitely does not feel like it's flying on rails! It's one of my favourite flying experiences on any sim
  16. I'm not Dan (obviously ) ... but I think that there's no guile or treachery hidden in the comment. It looks more like a semantic issue to me; as no one knows what the future holds! Dan might have simply been pointing out that things can change, and of course that is true. The unsettling thing about suspicion is that it nearly always derails the way to peace ... and the hardest thing is really letting go! May peace and goodwill prevail among all parties ... life is way too short my friends!
  17. Yes, it was about three weeks ago that I removed them .. and I'd redownloaded the entire pak as well as Voz. I'm referring to the Australian eastern seaboard . Cheers!
  18. In response to the post about the negative experience with the XP demo, in my opinion the XP demo is counter productive for X-Plane. Time limits make it nigh on impossible to properly set the sim up to one's preferences and of the default aircraft, possibly the C172, C90 or the Baron 58 are better choices compared to the Avanti. That said, the best planes are payware ... so the impression is less likely to be made in an environment that's geared to making a first impression. X-Plane demo hints at potential ... the full monty makes the experience much more solid. Change the scenario around .. if I were new to the FSX genre of flight simulation and I had a 10 minute window to explore it ... I would have low expectations of it (I did ..default state etc). However, I went and bought my copies of FSX & P3D, bought some planes I read good reviews on, bought a couple of other addons and scenery that the community had endorsed and I 'listened' on the FSX forums ... result, I now can say that I have genuinely enjoyed some of my flying in FSX ... especially in the Aerosoft Extended Twotter (gee I hope this EXACT one makes it into X-Plane!).
  19. I'm going by memory here Sesquashtoo, but the main reason I no longer use them is because I've had library objects that aren't found and some instances of incomplete associations (e.g. This controller has no tower). In addition, I'm pretty sure it's around Coffs Harbour (NSW) that when I exit XP while parked @ Coff's I'll get a crash next time I try to reload the sim. So mostly they 'work' .. it's just that I'm pretty OCD about my log.txt file. A couple of the regional spots up far north Queensland have framerate issues for me .. and they're only piddling airports that look like they've been band-aided on to the landscape. Baz must've been in a rush when he did those (can't remember which ones specifically ). I'd prefer to use the leggo brick airports anyway tbh, and I've resolved to keep working on the regional airports of the eastern seaboard .. eventually I'll get 'em done .
  20. I've had some issues with the Aussie Paks ... log.txt fills up with a number of errors that I don't have the patience or the where-with-all to fix. So I only keep the roads .. and will keep populating the region with lego airfields as I need them.
  21. I have a soft spot for all the individuals who make my favourite toys. So it can become a smidge uncomfortable when a number of them have public spats. I'm willing to bet that if we all got together face to face, we'd get along just fine .. over a beer or three. It's a good thing that this boil is lanced so that it doesn't continue to fester. Cheers!
  22. Well said Dan, a thoughtful post. Thank you sir. Why is this sad? Without these same business dynamics I doubt you'd have the simulation environment you currently enjoy ... whatever the platform. I think it needs to be viewed realistically; one cannot 'expect' something for nothing in real life. Everything comes at a cost one way or another.
  23. It's deprecated .. now called EFASS and still free! P.S. the program is not sim specific AFAIK .. the info states that it's for XP, FSX and P3D!
  24. Yes! The Carenado C337 is one of my favourites! I have too many taht I like .. sorry I missed this one, it's really fun to fly as well. Also a freeware Baron 58 by awall86 on the Org .. is highly rated and complete.
  25. ... but what do you think about it? How would you rate it? Cheers!
